For those who dont know, back in April it was discovered that the Developers had forgotten to turn of coding that deleted left over Rubble in New Magincia. This was quite the problem since this was discovered AFTER they had given out the houses to the winners of the Magincia Lottery. Now, I have played UO for 8+ years. When I discovered my Rubble was gone, I realized it would not be replaced, nor did I expect it to be replaced. It was a big big loss (Estimated worth of 1billion+) but I knew that EA usually does not replace lost items. I was ready to move on from this mess, I was one of the first to report the issue (to make sure I didnt lose more than I already did, and to also prevent others from being hit).

On April 11th 2011, EA issued this on UO.com Rubble in Magincia and Today's Maintenance | Mythic Entertainment | Ultima Online. "If you have lost Rubble, please send a list of lost items to [email protected] along with your account name (no passwords), shard and your lot number. These items will attempt verified from a back up of your shard and your items will be replaced. Please make sure to lock down a container on your steps if you do not have a mailbox so we can drop these items into it. "

I was very pleased and surprised by this turn of events. Since my house was a rares museum, all of the items were locked down in the house, and to my thinking would be easy to verify on the backup of the shard. I quickly emailed my list to Mesanna, I emailed an updated list a day later to include a couple more items I was missing, then I emailed another update with pictures to better identify some of the rubble. Since they were taking their time to replace these items, I wanted to be as thorough as possible to what it was, what it looked like, and where it would have been located in the house on the backup server.

Three weeks later I moved to Atlantic full time, leaving Chesapeake behind me. I put off moving my museum for almost a month, still hoping id receive my rubble back. (Reason for holding it off - I wanted my rares ONLY in a house my main account owned. Hence if I moved, itd be my main accounts house, and result in me having to sell the mag plot.)

About A months ago I finally moved the rares to my new Mag house on Atlantic. I opened an old account to hold the Chesapeake Mag house still in hopes id get my replacements. I emailed an update to Mesanna, trying to let her know the account was now on a different account, and provided any information she might need. (Now its important for me to point out, I had not, nor still have I received ANY responses about the Rubble). Still not having heard back, last week I sold the house to a friend and roleplayer on Chesapeake who wanted to add to the roleplay township that is Chesapeake New Magincia.

Long post, yes Im sorry. Let me get to the point - I dont want my replacement rubble. All I wish for now is just ANY response about the issue. I havent received 1 email about this whole thing. Was it not able to be verified on the backup shard? Is it still an ongoing investigation? Was it decided it cant be done?

I just want to not have any doubt in my past decisions. I don't care about the items anymore ( I have given up) , but I do want the peace of mind. Other emails about other issues have been answered, but the ones about the rubble just seem to be....well ignored.

Thanks to anyone who read, or just skipped it all to the last paragraph :D

I read it all, and have wondered Several times about the folks that lost their stuff, and if they ever got any resolve. Thanks,sadly for the update.
I heard the backups/restore = FAIL

I to often did wonder what became of this issue, I never seem to recall reading a post stating that all was resolved.

I thought they were going to have somebody go into backups, confirm the rubble, and then give you replacement rubble. Did they not do this?

When Magincia was torn to bits some of us had the notion we would take part in rebuilding it at a later time. I'm not sure why that was the impression I got at the time but I kept quite a collection of bits of wall, plants ect in hopes of using it someday.

It didn't happen quite that way which is fine. This new direction for Magincia is a great way to work with a player base that enjoys merchants and tamers. I love that Magincia itself has a population of players now. I've seen quite a few use the old rubble highlighted in their new homes and it makes me smile.

To have those little bits of history gone too is saddening and I hope this case is the exception for anyone who lost out and were given hope. An update would do wonders for anyone hanging on to that hope. I hope you see one!

There were a lot of us that thought we would be helping rebuild Magincia. And that we would have input on it. We also thought that, even tho they were opening it up to housing, that it wouldn't be made a trailer park...
And as for the stalls, etc, most of us were just really wanting a search engine like the "site that can't be named" uses, but we got commodity vendors and pet stalls. *sighs*

We were most definitely lead to believe we would be rebuilding magincia. As for input, well I doubt we will ever have real input into the game given my more than a decade old experience with the game. It's not something that happens on any producer's watch. Commodity vendors and pets stalls are a joke and a pitiful distraction in the guise of development or content.

Draconi didn't leave...


To the OP: Sorry you believed a promise that was not allowed to be fulfilled.

Thank you once again for your kindness on the price it means a lot not only to myself but those helping build the township.

Well you can always try to move in and open a Magincia Historic Museum? Have the rubble on display (make sure it doesn't poof still) and even start a township. We contacted EM Dudley, EM Drosselmeyer and the Ev....errr Lady Mesanna...(*Thinks* I'm not sure if calling her a lady would offend her more then calling her Evil)...back to the point. We contacted them to start a player run township on New Magincia and rounded up many of the home owners and started the recognition process.

Nah, at best there were 35 or 40 houses per shard(fel and tram is around this number I think). Of these a small percentage were actually converted from a plot to a house. Of those only a smaller number would have had rubble. The numbers could not have been that great to delve through and, IMO, would have made for a great PR campaign. Sadly here is a posting saying that some guy/gal has lost their stuff due to poor programming. I find it hard to believe that EA/mythic/who-ever does not have the ability to run all of the shards on a back up and spend the few hours it might have taken to solve this.

At best they could have posted here saying something like we wanted to replace your trash but the servers were giving us issues creating rubble or what ever the situation was but tell us the truth, offer these people 30 days free time and call it closed. Not following up is silly and poor business. If I tried the same in my line of work I'd be out of a job in a day or two...

I wondered that also, of course attempted scam fails wouldn't be posted about, and dev's wouldn't say. Few posts make me think few people actually lost anything.

Yea your point? So im still trying, is that a problem with you? How about if you lost over a billion gold worth of items, then you were told it would be replaced, and then you were just ignored as nothing happened. Would you just sit and take it?

Would you prefer if I write out the whole thing ALL over again instead of simply bumping one I made prior?

And nothing since. Now I really understand if its not replaced, but the fact is they DID say they would replace it, it was posted on UO.com, and since then NOTHING.

Little surprise this hasn't been dealt with yet... and while the typical UO policy is "We don't replace lost items," in the cases where it is their lack of QA, foresight, and proper testing of a system that has adverse affects to the player-base, something, indeed, should have been done.

Why it hasn't yet been done... well, that's anyone's guess.

I'll agree with you when they replace the 100's of millions worth of rubble/rares that I lost to gypsy camps spawning. It's BS that they replaced ANY of the rubble and not stuff from before.

Lost my rubble fire and one of my rubble fire pits. And that's just the tip of the ice berg.

Some things are well worth a necro bump, this being one. Fault for the resurrection from dead thread land is on the folks he titled the thread too imo. Had they given some kind of a response {either postive or negative} then the matter would have more than likely been closed. How I miss the days of actual Dev interaction on the forums.......

Sadly this isnt the first time uo has made the mistake and just said suck it up or look the other way. Before imbuing came out i had a house fulled with high end armor when the return to brit program was brought online an old account that had been removed was put back onto the house list the guy logged in an looted over 2billion worth of high end armor. uo said it was there bad but never offered to fix my or anyone elses lose due to it. so uo in my eyes just looks the other way no matter what they messed up or cause people to lose.

Thats the part people seem to be overlooking. They had anyone effected email them their account name, the house plot, and a list of items lost. I sent that all in my email, I even sent pictures of the items, I also told them where the items were in my house so they could find them easier in the backup of the server.

Mesanna said they would be replaced, and since then I have been ignored and forgotten. All I want is an answer.

That's what is different.

I would say email Kai Schober, but even though he's technically our community rep, he doesn't work with the UO community, and he doesn't seem to give out his email address.

This is pretty crappy though.

I'm sorry you never got your replacement rubbles.

I never believed they would replace it because EA LOVES clinging to their idiotic, archaic, and ridiculous policy of EA DOES NOT REPLACE LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS.

EA needs to seriously wake up and correct their long term case of anal/cranial displacement before it becomes permenant. (Might already be too late.)

WoW, LOTR, and DnD all replace items if it something they caused or your account was hacked. EA- Too bad its your fault.

What saddest of all is people will tolerate such crappy customer service.
I'm not just talking about EA either. Companies like BoA, Chase, DishNetwork, Directv, WALMART, and almost all credit card companies treat their customers like dog-poop on the sidewalk and sadly people just seem to take it.

Promathia, keep fighting the good fight I'm with ya all the way. You might try contacting Mesanna's bosses. Tell them you were promised something, the UO dev team didn't follow through, and have quit communicating.

We should build a EA complaint site where people can post and vent their complaints about EA. Just an idea.

The part I put in bold is more likely the answer to all this. I doubt it will ever happen. Kind of like the PvP arena's. Not much said about them anymore.

I can posit-guess-theorize as to WHY you got no satisfaction
You say a single backup of Chessy should have sufficed ...
You DO KNOW that there were a few other shards effected?

Do YOU Know ... how often a shard IS backed up? Daily?
HOW MANY dailies are on file? two days? three? a week? a month?
The >single< backup you assume existed, >could have< been pushed out of rotation ....
Do You Think THAT backup STILL exists?
A Revert of all shards would have "covered" All shards and put to square one (with the bug fix in = no loss)
Why didn't they do that? (ask your contact at known email addy)

Excepting, of course, for:

That more than implies that there will be a replacement.

And... sorry, I don't buy that they couldn't get it done. To be honest, if it required them to hire an $8.50/hour temp to go through and do it, they should have done right by it.

The backups existed at the time. Whether anyone was thoughtful enough to take those backups and move them someplace safe so that they weren't overwritten is a question we may not ever know, but the fact that they haven't followed through on correcting their own error isn't an excuse; it's a failure.

Actually, the words "your items will be replaced" is pretty much a solid statement. Not, "We will replace your items if we get around to it." Not, "We might replace your items if we can figure out how." Not even, "We will attempt to verify your claims by looking at a backup of your shard and if we can verify them, we will replace them." No, what they announced was "[y]our items will be replaced."

Really? In a game that the subscription to is based largely (in the realm of 90%) upon the virtual ownership of said pixels, pixels *poofing* isn't a disaster?

I'm certain you'd feel differently if you logged on and all of your pixels had vanished. Would "it was just a bug" quell your feelings about the matter if you were in the same shoes? I doubt it.

Right. Because, you know, EA has had such stellar customer service skills in the past decade when it comes to Ultima Online that anyone needs an alibi to bash them for failure to follow through, right?
