Really nice idea; might bring some life back into some of the older areas where few people go. It will also help introduce newer people to guild activities.

Decent enough idea. But, would limit it to Tram ruleset area. No way I could sneak a Champ off in Fel if it were advertised 
Not too sure how practical it would be, been asking in gen chat on ATL for folks to do Bedlam Champ and nadda. Worth a shot tho I reckon.

I think the idea could be good - if it worked to where if the group wanted to advertise it through the town crier's, they could. Some groups are well coordinated and do not want tag-alongs who do not know the group strategy. Also, I would hate to see a new player go through all of the effort of getting to Medusa only to be told no.

True on both accounts. Certain situations someone who does not know the right tactics can create havoc for everyone. I am reminded of a certain Paroxy run years ago with ODE where a guildy of mine cast an Earth Elemental when Paroxy was 3/4 dead, and boom he was back at full health in an instant lol

A que system for those would be a good idea. If i'm doing a spawn or something and I need help I can always ask. Don't need people jumping in. That's what it would turn into. People just jumping in to "help" when the champ arrives. This has too many bad aspects than good. It could be tweaked but why would we want any dev time wasted on existing content that really isn't broken in the first place.
Or is this just another way to make sure noone spawns when you don't want them to?

It's not as aggressive as your idea to limit champ times to when you are playing, so that's good. I think it's still trying to make it too easy for people to raid - people who want to raid should have to put some effort into it, rather than sitting around and waiting for something to be announced.
But I like the idea of using the town crier more, specifically Tazar's idea of people using it when they want to. I'm not sure how you could keep it from being abused (people sending dirty messages through it, etc.), other than to have generic messages that can be toggled during a champ spawn or other events (EM events, etc.). It would be nice if groups could use it for player events, but that would involve potentially opening it up to being abused. It would be nice to make the crier a lot more useful, versus a lot of people using GC.

In theory, players who turn up solely to battle the champion at the end of the fight have only a minor chance of receiving a reward."

I also remember that very topic being discussed at LENGTH by the devs prior to even adding the artifacts to begin with.....

Don't like this idea at all.. unless like Tazar said you just make it an advertisement when you wish people to join you.. but gen Chat works just as well for that..

Can Mythic instead develop something that generates an SMS text message to me when someone is working a champion spawn on all east coast servers?
I'd like to know the champ type, and be informed when the alter hits 3rd level. I'd also like to know the player names, guild, and faction affiliations of all players that walked near the alter within 10 minutes of hitting third level.

If you go and attack the slasher when someone is doing it you get the same chances of the others to get the reward.
same if you go in a champ in fel, basically a wod could give you 1 or more PS without doing anything else.
We have community hunts on LS 4 nights a week and about 30 min prior Sabina does a shout out in chat as a reminder to where we're headed.

I will agree they need to make Slasher along the lines of Stygian Drag, need easily obtained keys to even enter the fight. Which is something the Devs could easily change. But the draw of Fel champs are the player aspect. The person that comes in and wod the champ, you can either chase them down, kill them, heal the champ and deal with what is a probable raid OR write off that scroll (s), finish the champ and get out before the raid. Most just use that as a stall tactic to give the rest of the zerg time to arrive.
I would hate to see them attempt to undertake any changes in those game mechanics. We all see what happens when they undertake something that CAN be a major undertaking. Just my opinion *shrugs*
oh yeah thats a great idea.. spend all the time getting to the boss and have some town crier tell everyone that its up and go tag along??

Had a guildmate show up for a spawn a bit ago that I and one or two others worked up from the beginning and get a Gladiator's Collar replica.

well, seems the "Grand scale" type of events pose too many problems at this time (champs)
but
A guild or a "pick-up" Group or >party< might be able to benefit from a programmable / "hire able" NPC
Party up and One member of the group, could go about hiring NPCs with sets of instructions and dialogues and clues and such
and custom cut a quest, a mystery, a check point on a cross country cattle drive, directions to a gathering, telling of a tale to (with party as actors) a theater of patrons, passerby's, ..... youtube ..... program an npc plant/shill for a magic show, responds to the Cue: any volunteers?

and as for "customizing" the npcs "appearance ..." there's your "on Que" zombie scene rounding the corner of the mountain ... Brainzzzz!
summon the Grey Speaking Wyvern of the mountains to fight along side your small band.
Perfect time to start working with the concept too ...

Daisy chained them with the follow target command and Conga line! ... Hilarious! had three guild mates join up and set up a platoon size marching formation ...
marched right by brit bank ... and the >real crowd< ROARED ... really ... a riot broke out ... some one would lightening bolt one of the hirelings, guards were called, people were whacked ... went on for hours!
good times.
