Kinda newbie questions...

Well I played UO back in the early days - left when EQ came out (hay don’t flame me hehe)

Well came back a week ago, trying to understand the million things that have changed in the past 10 years ;) - so I need YOUR help :thumbup:

Well for build, I am starting up with a pure PvM

Here are my thought:

Sword = 100
Tactics = 100
Resist Magic = 100
Bushido = 100
Chivalry = 60-100

These are what I am 100% sure I want to take - the plan is to be a PvM tank/dps - and I will probably on most occasions have a mage friend with me

So what to do with the rest of my points?

I am thinking of Parry - but isn’t that a waste when I have Bushido?? Yeah I actually read that Bushido will lower my parry chance when using a shield.....

I am also considering getting archery to 100 - to be able to solo some of the hard hitting mobs - would 100 in archery be a waste?

Then we have anatomy and healing, anatomy will increase my dmg, as well as significant improve my bandages - but with 60+ Chivalry will I then actually need to bandage? - yeah its nice - but is it worth 100-185 skill points? (100-185 since healing looks gimped without anatomy)

Lastly there is focus - now after only a few nights played it is already at 100 - but I hardly see it used in any template here - so assuming its not worth the points....

So I end up like this myself:

Sword = 100
Tactics = 100
Resist Magic = 100
Bushido = 100
Chivalry = 100 (can be taken down, when I get close to powerscolls)
Archery = 100

What would be the best skill to complement the above?

Or would you change anything else?

I "wont" go the Sampire way - Necro's are evil - I am an paladin :)

thx in advance
Trivan - now back on the EU shard

Resist in PvM is considered by many (including me) to be wasted. You can drop it entirely.

You can also find the power scrolls of lower levels rather cheap, so think about 110-115 in your primary skills. Later, you can plan on 120 in those skills.

Think about this as an end-template:
120 swords
120 bushido
100 parry
100 tactics
100 healing
100 anatomy
The rest (60-80) in chivalry

In your starting phase, use higher chivalry in place of the 120 skills. i.e.
110 swords, 110 bushido, 100 parry, 100 healing, 100 anatomy, 100 tactics, 80-100 chivalry (depending on account age)

It isn't fancy, but will get the job done. Just don't carry a shield. (if you really like shields, then replace bushido with something else, perhaps focus)

I am thinking of Parry - but isn’t that a waste when I have Bushido?? Yeah I actually read that Bushido will lower my parry chance when using a shield.....
Now you can parry without shield. It depends on your bushido and parry.
You get 40% chance to block with two-handed weapon with 120 bushido/parry and 80+ dex.
UO Stratics - Parrying

Resist Magic = 100
Resisting Spells doesn't reduce direct damage. It affects curse-like spells.
Resist on items (armor mainly) is used to reduce direct spells damage.
Resist Spells

Then we have anatomy and healing, anatomy will increase my dmg, as well as significant improve my bandages - but with 60+ Chivalry will I then actually need to bandage? - yeah its nice - but is it worth 100-185 skill points?
You need Anatomy to do more damage. So you "waste" for healing 100 points only.
Anatomy Damage Bonus% = (Anatomy ÷ 2) (Add 5% if Anatomy >= 100)
UO Stratics - Anatomy

With high dex you heal very fast (4 sec with 140 dex) so now you get much less "your fingers slip" messages.
You need a lot of karma to heal really well with chivalry. You're hardly able to heal untill you have killed a lot of tough monsters.
Also you need your mana for special moves and damage increasing chivalry/bushido skills so don't have enough mana for healing/cure with chivalry.
And finally chivally spells take time. You'd better use this time to hacking enemies.

Lastly there is focus
Swords
Tactics
Bushido
Parry
Healing
Anatomy
Chivalry
There is no room for focus.

120 swords
120 bushido
100 parry
100 tactics
100 healing
100 anatomy
The rest (60-80) in chivalry
I'm a new player so I'm not sure... but I'd prefered:
120 swords
120 bushido
100-120 tactics
120 parry
80 healing
100 anatomy
60 chivalry

super - thx for replies

Resist magic - just read up on it - learned something new :) - so this will only help me vs. the non-dmg spells - well and poison - so dropping this completely will in theory not have much effect in my PvM - maybe besides the chance of getting less poison dmg

Parry - ahh think I got it now - I will NEED parry, in order to parry without a shield using Bushido - I kinda like my Order shield - but I can live without :) and Bushido looks to good to drop - hehe

I can understand than none of you like the idea of "wasting" 100 points in archery - hehe - I am just wondering if its possible to melee the hard hitting mobs - on Difficulty Rating, I see that the warrior has +1+2 on 50% of the mobs out there....

Agree on the anatomy, that it will help my dmg - but looks somewhat low compared to other skills - 30% at skill 100... but yeah if I have healing, it will make my bandages significant better

2 more newbie questions then - since I have "your" attention :thumbup:

1.
I am already at the 700 skill cap (100 in forcus - and 40+ in meditation before I found out to stop it)

So is there a way of dropping a skill? - I want to pick up Bushido - but at 700 skill - I wont be able to learn the first 30-40 instant for gold.... how do you handle that?

2.Where are people typically meeting up these days? - where are the best place to go for player vendors? - I know that it might/will differ from shard to shard - at the moment I have stayed in Trammel - not seen many players, and hardly any player vendors
(I am on the European server btw)

Thx in advance :party:

1. You can set the skills to 'down' in the same way you stopped meditation.

2. General chat, guild chat, instant messaging services. There are few people who hang out at banks any more ... or at any particular spawn in the world for that matter. I would suggest asking about like-minded guilds on the Europa forum here.

thx again,

yeah have now set several skills to go down - Focus (100), Meditation (40), RM (91) and Archery (65)

But I have 0,00 i Bushido - and I of course want to buy the first 30-40 skill points - but I cannot - since I am at 700 - and at the moment the above skills only go down, when I getting increases on my wanted skills - so it looks like I will stay on the 700 cap...?

Isent there a way of getting, say focus to go from 100 to 0 "instant"

If you have a soul stone, you can use it to flush the skills (without using charges).

Otherwise, no.

You can if you have skills marked down. At least I did few days ago.

Bonuses have been chaged.
120 tactics = 81.25%
120 anatomy = 65%
125 STR = 42.5%

Archery is good. But what skill are you going to drop for it? I see parry only... But without parry you will not be so effective with a sword.

If you do have the skills marked down and are not on any new player quests you can still purchase the bushido skill from the appropriate NPC. It will automatically deduct the skill from the first skill marked down alphabetically, I believe.

Sure. I did this just yesterday. (I bought Bushido being an skill cap.)

After this I got the quest to get it to 50 faster.
