Well, Siege is NOT a hardcore PVP server. That is a myth. It is a server with a Felucca ruleset.
The majority of people playing there enjoy the risk vs reward aspect of the server.
To survive on Siege, your best bet is to join a guild. PvP'er or PvM'er...
I call BS. Most of the damn server was RED and everyone was trying to kill everyone else. Sure many of the guilds were RPers but they were RPers trying to KILL YOU. The Orc Clan, the Undead Lords, Guardian's Chosen, True Brit Heroes, Knights of Glory and Beer. I dunno what kinda wusses make up the server these days but it WAS THE hardcore PVP server back when it had a population.
Ah, I see, from your link it appears you may have came to Siege post AoS after it had declined greatly. No wonder you have no idea how it was in its golden age.
hi. *waves* According to Pinco's lovely UI, I am 54 months old. I do not know what Siege was 'in its day', nor to I care. For me, IanJames hit the nail on the head. I enjoy the risk vs. reward aspect. This is about what Siege is now. Or what it could be.
GIL is probably the largest guild right now and do not go around killing people.
You forgot the option, "All of the above"...
I just don't get why people want to PvP all the time. I guess the same way PvP ppl don't understand why I like to enjoy having fun without some jerk having the potential to grief me.
PvP balance and PvPers have ruined more games than I care to count. I'm not even going to get into that.
I am not a PvPer. I am an easy kill, ask anyone. Sprago will tell ya. Or Raptor or Righty. Grief? I don't give anyone a reason to grief me. Killing me is not griefing me. If you dryloot me three times in one day, then its griefing. If you deprive a crafter of thier livlihood, its griefing. Its been months since a PK has hit me twice in one day.
I started a character on Siege and ran up to the graveyard in Brit to start training him..
High level characters hanging around a beginner training ground just to kill and grief new characters? This seemed so childish to me after being res killed 17 times I just gave up.
I'm not gonna waste my time walking around in guard zones because I can't get a start.
This is where the non-PvPer has a challenge. How do I get things done without getting killed and losing all my stuff? First of all, one rez kill would have be training elsewhere. Lots of places have low level magic users. And invest in running shoes. Up until recently, if I got away, it was a win. And don't say in gen chat where you are or where you are meeting.
Some guilds do (*cough*gilfane*cough*), and honestly on siege there's no real downside to it. (the major downside to it on prodo shards is guild robbers and guild pk's, who infiltrate and rob guild members, here anyone can do that, so why bother infiltrating the guild?).
Guilds like ours are more specific to a purpose, but if you fit in the PK/Thief category there's no real problem guilding you. (normal rules apply, code breakers and kids who never shut up not welcome generally). New people just start as "ronin" and have no real access to anything (NOBODY uses guild access on anything important, not here at least)
When I started Siege, I started in the NEW guild. It was great cause when I got stomped on and lost my stuff, I could regroup. After that, I was in MYTH and then TNT. I learned who the PKs were and what thier style and goals were. I think one practice has helped me more than anything is not whining about getting killed. I very seldom get drylooted. Lately its just arrows and bandies...maybe a jewel. I got replacements. Since imbuing came a long, money is not an issue. Anyone can farm ingredients and they sell good.
Nowadays, I am not a part of a major guild. I don't have pals to call on when I am being chased down. Certain times of the day are quiet. If its quiet, I can head down to Abyss and get some work done. Cause I can't ever go down there and not see anyone. Our pop is WAY down, but we're there. All I got to do is have a silly player event. Some folks will show and others will come and crash it. Its a lot of fun.
Its getting hard to maintain a player driven economy. When I first started it was great. Folks did and sold what they wanted. Crafters were a real need and were appreciated, especially by the PKs. Now I can't find a dexxer suit to save my soul. And I simply do not want to make them. Try to figure out all the resists and junk? No way. Let me sell my ingredients and buy my suits.
I miss Wyrm and VmP. I remember them jumping me in a dungeon and Wyrm was going on and on about my scissors (how did he know I was still there watching?) and finally got fed up with my squalling herd of ostards and killed them all. I laughed like hell. I renamed all the animals by his house...just a few insults. No big deal. And I dissed him in a stratics news article and he made me pay...quite humiliatingly. I miss Wyrm and Krystal and Ibitchi cause they always knew where to find me. I had to look over my shoulder and carry a BOS. If I got away, it was a win. I miss the Good reds who's purpose was to fight the Evil PKs. God...what was that guild's name? I went to an event that Mo held and gave counts during the event. For weeks, this one guild...who ended up going red anyways...cut up my armor when they killed me. One of my favorite keepsakes is a book they found on my corpse and wrote in.
Right now my canons are being held randsom. *nods* Its a terrible situation. Took me weeks (lie) to make enough money to fix my ship. And now I have to some how make ammends to this wako's religious figure....(speaking of which, still in the process of moving RL, be back soon)
Anyways....Siege is...what it is. I love it. It could certainly be better. I don't know about dev changes. I am not good at estimating how changes would effect the whole. But I know more people would be awesome. Then maybe I wouldn't have to leave my ship sitting around unlocked and unsecured to get some attention or start a conflict! All my houses are public! I would love to see some guild verses guild stuff. Not just PvP. I am an RPer. Sea battles!! Arr!
As far as housing goes....time and again I have seen SP players dedicate one of thier houses to house off shard folks so they could play on Siege and offer them storage space. No interest. (well, except for Tazar...) My own houses are public and have crafting and teleportation things set to public. This does attract ghosts and thieves, I am afraid. But there are places to train. There are guilds to join. There are things to do. We have a network of teleporters that will keep you from needing magery. Siegers want Siege to grow. They may not be online at that moment. Hit the forums. Get in NEW. Talk in Gen chat.
