I was recently flamed (albeit mildly) for presuming to enter into a "long standing community"
and daring to voice my opinion.

Now I'm not new to either Stratics or Ultima, I've played Ultima since the late 70's
and started lurking here right around 2000. And, my skin is pretty thick and flames roll right off me now.

But what if I had been a "New" player or just a "new" poster on Stratics?
I thought the whole idea was to welcome people to this board and in turn encourage their interest in this game we all love or at least play.

Community start with us doesn't it? I mean we are the players right?

I would just like to use a recent event on my shard as an example:

Due to a misunderstanding on boat security popps lost a substantial amount of resources to a thief. So far 14 million gold has been pledged by other players to help popps ransom his stuff. No ransom demands have been made but still.. 14 million. Now that might not seem like a lot to some, but to me it shows real community spirit.
Personally I'm proud to see that kind of stuff happening on my shard.

 Glad to hear that for popps.. one of the things I miss about the UO early days. Everyone seems to have "UO Rage" these days.

That's cool that everybody's stepping in for Popps.
I'f I had any gold I'd happily contribute even though I'm on a different shard because as you say..Community begins with us.

Hail UO Hall! Good to see the ABM still up and runnin.

I would like to add my own antidote from times long past.

Once...long ago....a *Friend* of mine decided to steal EVERYTHING I owned. I had him friended and co-owned to my 2 castles...big mistake I found out...logged in one day to find both accounts stripped of everything.

Not ONLY did my good friends on Origin help me re-stock what I had lost, but I had people shard transfer with goodies for me from other shards.

It was the most amazing thing I have ever experianced and it was over 5 years ago...yet I will always remember it.

Thanks to all of those who are still here and those that have since moved on...you gave me an awesome memory and a great experience in a world where things like that just dont' happen.

Wow. well said!

A positive community spirit is just as important on these boards as it is ingame. Who doesnt understand or get that?

I dont know about anyone else but whenever I see a poster referencing subscription numbers or actual Mythic/EA employee names or the game dying in general I immediately add that poster to my scary addicted motard list.

I know you read about it here all the time but have people actually quit the game and still come here to rant about their virtual issues? Wow.
