what do people mean when they are looking for a pre patch cu, i heard something about being faster, how can you tell if its faster then the others? and how old does it have to be to be pre patch?
Pets movement speed is directly affected by their dex or stamina (not sure which but I don't think it matters in most cases) so technically it is their dex, also higher dex means they will hit faster, and in the case of a cu they could potentially heal faster though I am not sure if they do or not.so they physicaly move faster to mobs? and its not the dex? or is it the dex?
Yes, this is exactly correct. I don't know if it is a function of the pet's dex/stamina, but when you see one in action you understand right away. Even mounted, you cannot outrun a pre-patch cu. If you get dismounted by a tamer with a pre-patch Cu, you'll take a bite instantly as the Cu will magically move from next to the tamer to bite you. Another thing is that these Cus will track a target almost endlessly, 10, 20, 30 screens if you keep running. Regular pets kind of lose interest if you run more than 2-3 screens away from them (of maybe they're just too slow to keep up). When told to kill someone (in pvp especially), the pre-patch cu rubberbands to the target much faster than the post patch cu.. thereby making them far deadlier to players in a pvp setting. You can not outrun a pre-patch cu.
Basically any "pre-patch" pet had something done to it to get better stats, such as cursing it. Technically the code should never allow for something to go over x amount of y but we all know code gets buggy around here, so it was possible to curse a pet and then tame it and the stats would drop like normal but then curse would wear off and they would shoot up over what the normal cap was, so devs had to fix it. They have made this mistake with tons of pets and thus had to patch them. Hope that helps you in your quest to find one, just use animal lore on them, if they have higher than normal dex/stamina you know you found one.Yes, this is exactly correct. Saw a tamer with one just the other day, and the difference between that and a regular Cu (which you see all the time) is like night & day. The tamer just stood next to his Cu, and had the pet guard him. The tamer then used a heavy x-bow to dismount (30-50+ damage, depending on if the spells land) which caused the target to auto-defend. Since the Cu was guarding the tamer, the auto-defend triggers the Cu to leap into action, and I mean leap, as in about 8 tiles instantly, so tack on another 30+ damage if the Cu bites successfully plus the potential for bleed and the target on foot, all in the same instant because the Cu is so fast. That leaves most targets one AI away from eating dirt.
I've been trying to acquire one for some time, but the ones I've looked at (some of which were old, no doubt) have not had this same behavior, so I'm still looking. Don't know if it was something that was done in addition to being "pre-patch" but if you see one in action in pvp, there's no mistaking it.
