Something New on T Maps I'm Missing?

Brushing the dust off my treasure hunter guy and I've noticed something weird.. my old style maps that I had in my bank box work fine.. coordinates match up, treasure gets dug.

But all the new style maps that I've tried produce nothing.. read everything here... done systematic tile by tile digs. Nothing. What gives?

Maybe I am not understanding what you mean but I was not aware that there were any old style maps left..all of my maps got converted to the new style.

Publish 67 randomized the treasure map locations.

Edit: Do you mean you cant find the treasure around the area the map points to?

I still say they need to put cords on them... T hunting WAS my favorite sport... now.. I dislike it and refuse to do it. 14 years of cartography down the tubes.... I cant see the bloody things! The map is way too small for my eyes to do any more then 1 or 2 at max due to the strain.

Hint the pin you see go to the right 2 steps then your close to it but you DO need GM mining...

I do agree with most that having the coordinates would be a very bad idea, and it will definitely take the "hunt" out of treasure hunting. It would make it far too easy and uninteresting.

What they should do is adapt a similar system to the turkey maps, and give us hints on how close we are to the treasure. While it has been said that the code for that system is lost, it is not something that can't be redone.

Better yet ... make this a bonus of the Tracking skill, and allow us to find the treasure based on that skill, which is more appropriate than having Mining. :)

I've completed a lot of maps without mining, Pinco's UI or using any other method. The change was announced as "we have put HUNTING back into Treasure maps!" and I like the challenge. It is at least harder than recalling to the exact coordinates.

I still agree with Lady Storm about the size of the maps, but you can still use other methods, like zooming the map using Pinco's UI (at 1:00): (by semmerset)

No, this is incorrect. The Devs stated they were going to convert the old maps to the new style in 30 day intervals, and that if they were de-coded they would reset to coded again; but whilst some were converted 30 days after the patch, after that they appear to have not continued to do so, and any map that was in the old style and on THB co-ordinates remains so to this date. This is true even if they haven't yet been decoded; if they spawned before the TMap changes, they will decode to one of the old fixed spots.

I have slowly been working through my collection of over 200 maps, divided into pre and post patch, and everything after the patch was indeed randomized; but decoding more Level 5s and 6s this week they remain on THB spots. Level 7s however will always be random as they were only introduced with High Seas, and didn't exist before the relevant publish.

Thank you for posting that entertaining video, Nimuaq. You've literally put your money where your mouth is and demonstrated excellent skill. :)

P.S. You really should post this on the Treasure Hunting forum and see if it can be added to the FAQ. The technique you used to find the treasure is quite useful.

The video is produced by semmerset, he/she is a stratics user too. I wish I was as skilled. To summarize, skills and video by semmerset, UI by Pinco.

Hmm interesting. Most of my maps are pre-patch and were decoded prior to the change so they could be sorted into areas. I'll have to check more of them. It is good to know there might still be one or two old style ones hidden in my map stash! *smiles*

100% agree w/ that post! T Hunter, what's that? Oh yeah, that's the set of skills I put on a soulstone, and then promptly flushed.
On a positive note, it left me w/ a toon that I now use as a 'super' soulstone, and I can sell those frag tokens.

This is correct.

The old style maps I had were in the bank when I recently reactivated my account..

They are the ones with a pin in them... The new ones simply have an X.

I was using a method similiar to Nimuaq's but no luck.. So much for my cartographer.
Drag.. now I gotta figure out what to rework his template into.

Not sure what the problem was yesterday but decided to go try again this morning and had no problems at all.. Even with the same maps I was trying yesterday.

Hmmm go figure... But I'm glad to be back on the Chest trail.

Semmerset is one of the smartest people I know in ultima about ultima. She is from Japan and plays on one of thier shards but now plays on Atlantic and is in the guild TWT. She is just booming with knowledge and it is cool seeing the new ideas she comes up with. She was one of the orginal sampires even from what I am told. Her english isn't very good so you don't see her post very much on here. She has done alot of videos to explain how to do things.

Problay don't see Semmerset in the game very much but her other charater is Freyalise which is a chicken that hangs out in haven. Japan is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Standard time aswell. Hope the other videos help someone, that is the whole points she makes them.

Glad to see that Treasure chests still generate some interest here..

And thanks for the link Petra.. personally I stick with the EC but others don't I know.

And what about dungeon chests.. not seeing anything on Stratics about them anymore.
Have changes been made to them?

Guess there's one way to find out.. *grabs lockpicks and a lantern*

Yup just a red X...

I'll post a picture of one if you want.

It's actually a little easier to locate than the pin was..

I am liking the changes to the treasure map system.. It does put the hunter part back in.
