Luck, is a statistical bonus; that somewhat works like extra-credit in matters of academics. It does matter, and it does improve and has great effects on the loot you see. The problem is that players dont understand how it works.
We all want and desire the greatest item loot drop ever seen in the game. When we dont see it; We begin too think luck doesnt work. But we have too look at the way the game code sees it.
There are many possibilities that can be set upon a monster loot item.
I wont list them all; But, here are some:
hit stamina
hit life
hit mana
dam inc
ssi
elemental damage
spell di
dci
hci
elemental resist
skill bonus
self repair
hp inc
mn inc
stam inc
list goes on...
So as I stated earlier we all want that uber drop.
So when luck doesnt give it to us, we think it doesnt work.
here is a typical luck vs non luck drop
*using random bonus effects*
0 luck item drop(armor)----------(x)luck item drop
helm------------------------------helm
self repair 1-----------------------self repair 2
hp inc 1-----------------------hp inc 3
Now none of us would loot this(well a zanthes elf would). But luck did its designed job. Luck simply gives all possible drop attributes a chance to boost itself. Its not designed to give uber items. Although it gives you; as luck would have it(hahax1000) a better item than a no luck bonus.
so here is the uber item example(i know this isnt uber-its an example!)
no luck--------------------with luck
longsword------------------longsword
hit harm 20-----------------hit harm 37
hml 15-----------------hml 41
hll 12-----------------hll 32
----------------------------*ssi 15*
----------------------------*dam inc 20*
The values are random and sometimes luck will add bonuses to an item drop. Its my experience that luck really makes really awesome jewelry. I have some items that make artifacts look like npc vendor items.
But there is a novelty side too luck.
Such as the search for the most worthless pathetic item ever seen. Luck has a chance to do this also.
here is 1 last example; and what I call detrimental luck.
item(x)
mage weapon -25 skill
fast cast -1
hci 1%
dci 1%
hitspell 1%
One last point. If you want to know what to go and farm to have a better chance at getting a really great item. Then you have too go where no one else goes. The high traffic farm areas; I think are penalized somehow. So if throughout the day; a 100 players farm swoops, i think this gets a penalty on his drops. The more something is farmed the bigger penalty it gets with its loot drops. So you have to go where no one else goes. Im not of course tell you where I farm, But this info should make you reconsider your spots.
p.s. Dar, if you think your luck is bugged, I have a way for you to "reset" your suit. If you are interested, Ill send you a pm and what you have to do, Or contact me in game and ill tell you the steps.
