A player who was brand new to UO came onto general chat to ask some basic questions. About 3 or 4 people all jumped in to offer their advice, which was cool to see people wanting to help.
This player seemed very excited about UO, was eager to learn on her own and figure things out after a few basic Q's and A's.. i think she said it was her 2nd day in the game. After a little while, just to be nosy and see how she was doing, i went to New Haven and saw her there getting 'helped'.. she had apparently been furnished not only with a horse but with a full properly imbued mage suit.. 100% lrc, MR mods.. resist. etc.. insured, and so i can only assume she was given a bunch of money to support the insurance...
Now, helping new players is one thing.. but handing them uber gear and a bunch of money on their 2nd day? How does that help them? What does that teach them? And worst of all, what does that leave for them to do in the game? Despite her enthusiasm, i'd be surprised to see her still playing within a month.
Everyone has a different style when it comes to helping new players, it just saddens me when i see this particular 'style'..
