One of the things that would be really handy to have and should have been part of the High Seas booster is a map engraving tool so you can keep the sea charts you make better organised.Instead of have 8 different maps that all say a sea chart.

Fishermen use them a lot. You mark a course on it and drop it on the tillerman and he sails you to your destination. And yes, a way to name them and maybe use red leaves on them like books would be pretty awesome

I'm not being sarcastic I really don't understand. Is this something you have a lot of? Like bods?
Is it a role play thing?
Something that helps you find pirates?
I fish, do fishing quests and do MIBs but haven't ever used a sea chart.

oh dear Flutter. Read the part on Navigation here: Shipborne Travel and Adventure

Cartographers can write seacharts. You can plot a course on them to where you want to go, then just give it to the tillerman and say 'start' and he'll sail the course you've plotted.

and the other important command is "continue" used after you hit another ship dolphin or what ever

I understand the concept, but does it serve a purpose?
Is it just so you can sail to Moonglow while you go fix your kid a sandwich?
Is there a reason why you can't use the same map over? I mean, just re-plot the courses you want to take? Why would you need more than one?

well, I have several because I use the same routes over and over. Moonglow to Trinsic, Britain to Sea Market. You get the drift? I usually fish as I go actually, it means I don't have to keep checking the big map to see where I am and where I need to turn to get to where I'm going.

Sailing to Moonglow while you fix a sandwich is not recommended. Run into a water elemental while your character is unattended and therefore defenceless is not a good idea.

Can GMs/EMs lock maps now for events? I've often seen maps in areas that have other stuff locked down for events, but I don't recall them ever being locked so players can't change them. Meaning they can't be used this way (if that's the case). This would be a great feature for this use also.

I can agree I would like to see a way of "naming" sea charts... as well as a way to "lock/save" what you have done.

I use sea charts often to go from the SeaPort to Jhelom to capture pirates... and sail back... And yes Fish along the way.

Another thing is you can tell it "where" to start...... Like starting at point 3 rather than the first point, which can be handy as well.

you can start halfway through a course by saying 'goto #' eg, goto 4 or you can sail to a single pin and stop by saying 'single #'

I kind of agree with Flutter on this one. If you want to sail to the docks I can see needing several maps but you don't have to, you just have to be on the same sub server. So you can play server line games and not sail more than a few screens in either direction for the lion's share of the quests.

I spend most of my time hoping three sets of server lines. All are a few screens apart max and include:

server a
Brit

server b
Skara, Trinsic and Jhelom

server c
Floating city and Moonglow

I'll quest from the above sets of server cities(I have a mage camped at the sea market to gate me there) until all quests are destined for either Papua or Vesper. By that time I am parked on one side of the brit/skara server line so I'll just sail West until I hit the Vesper subserver and finish quests there. The only sea chart I use is to get me from Vesper to the serpent pillars (Papua). Once I clean out the Papua quests, I just sail east from the pillars and start the whole routine over again.

So for fishing quests alone I only use one map. I can see myself needing several maps for other things like pirate hunting. But I don't do that very often.

There once was a server line map at Stratics that I can no longer find. Can anyone dig up a link or any sever line map?

Though I suppose in theory you can go backwards sort of by just having them go to 8 go to 7 go to 6, and so on....

Though you would have to stop at each pin or remember as you are nearing each pin to request the next pin in reverse selection.

But again this is also the reason for the request... each of us has one map to take you there and one to return.... so a book of maps would be nice.

The only sea chart I use is to get me from Vesper to the serpent pillars (Papua).

Is it possible to have a Sea Chart that "shows" the location on the Map of the Pillars so to then be able to plot a course to them from wherever one may be in the Sea ?

I know one can mark it on UOAutomap or UOCartographer, but I am referring to ONLY in game Sea Maps without any aid from other tools external to the game.

Are there any graphic differences when making and using Sea Charts with the Classic Client and the Enhanced Client ?
I know that the EC allows zooming but other than that is there any other noticeable difference when it comes to making and using Sea Charts ?

Differences, yes, on EC it show only the pins, not the line joining them.
Marking the pillars, yes, in a way. If you park your boat at the pillar and draw a chart there, then 'plot' a course by placing a pin at each corner, diagonally, then place a pin where the lines cross. Use it by telling the tillerman 'single #' where '#' is the number of the pin at the cross.

My Siege fisher has such a chart.
