A mining question

I signed in to my miner for the first time in a while. But I'm kinda confused on something here. I'm a human miner. I get the occasional rare gem (fire ruby ect.. ) when I mine ore. I can mine sand, and granite. Well... my question is, when I single click my pickaxe I see 4 options, which are:


Mining: Ore
Set to Ore
Set to Ore and Stone
Set to Ore and Gems


Well, when I choose the option: Set to Ore and Gems I get the message:

You have not learned how to mine
gems or you do not have enough
skill!

Well, I have 100 mining skill, and I own a pair of +5 mining gloves. Is there something I'm doing wrong to not allow the 4th option to work? Is there a book I need to read? Like I said, I am able to get the occasional rare gem to pop in my pack, so I'm pretty darn sure I've read the book for mining gems from the gargoyle city in Ilshenar.

Is your skill 95/+5 or 100 real +5?

You skill must be 100 Real to mine gems i believe. As far as the options on the pickaxe, i believe those were changes put in place after the weight of stones were reduced and made stackable to make it harder on scripters to collect the resources, (i.e. either collect gems or stones not both), making it harder on honest players.

I believe you have to read a book on mining gems, that can be purchased in the Gargoyle City in Ish.

I appreciate all the answers. I really do. I just don't think anyone is reading my entire post, or at least no-one is paying close attention to what I posted.


My current mining skill, WITHOUT gloves or any enhancements: 100.0

I HAVE the ability to get the occasional rare gem, about one gem per' every 300 *ingots* mined. Therefore, I must have read "that book" right?

I swear I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just looking for answers.

The gems they are talking about are not the rare gems but normal gems you buy from a Jeweler. To mine those you need to read a book from smithy shop in Ter Mur.

ok there are two types of gems ml magic gems and plain old fashion gems. to mine the plain gems one has to read the book mining gems from ilsh/ that is the two diffent setting to mine gems or to mine stone you will get ml magic gems if it's set any of the three ways

I want to thank you both Frarc and mjolnir131, after reading your posts I went directly to Ter Mur and bought the book. And after reading it I was able to select all the options on the pickaxe, and I mined my very first "old school" gem, a star sapphire.

The books for a miner to read from the Ilsh garg city are for Granite and Sand.

The book from the Ter Mur city smiths is for mining the old NPC sold gems.

The Crafting gems like the Dark Saphire or Blue Diamond are part of having the ML upgrade. Mined any place.

And if you mine in the new SA garg lands there is the chance to mine up the CBR (Crystaline Black Rock) for Imbuers. This same CBR can be as loot on rare ore eli mined up using a garg pickaxe. Dull Copper and Shadow Ore Eli that spawn about the lands have a small chance for CBR as loot.

It is a random drop like the large gems. No book needed.They are also a rare-ish drop on DC Elementals.

You must have Stygian Abyss in order to mine up Crystalline Blackrock. Other than that there is no other requirement that I can recall.

i thought it was just mining in tir-mur like the crystal stuff from tree's though i may be wrong

All Ore Elementals drop them. The higher the colored Elemental the better chance to get them. And you do not have to dig up the elementals in Ter Mur to get those.
