I think we are still looking for part 6. Other than that I hear ya. Among the books, apple crabs and shovel-nose lobsters... I cant decide which I hate more.

If the book serves no purpose aside from being a collectors item (which is a terrible collection item)

Then EA is taking a terrible step backward. You are suppose to try to keep your current members, not frustrate them so much they decide to quit.

Like they have done for regular crabs and lobsters which have been made available turn ins for Library Collectibles, they should do the same for these Books.

Of course, since the rarity of the drops for these books changes, the points they would award as turn ins should greatly differ with rarer books giving a LOT more points.

IMHO the books should be required in order to catch the related fish...

I would be happy with that, as long as the quests arent so difficult, and what i mean by difficult is...

Doing the same "10-20 Fish to [Town]" to get the same old crap rewards over and over.

There was quite an extensive post about this a while back. Supposedly they were going to make the books a rarer drop (mainly because everyone finds them useless and a waste of time) and increase the drops of power scrolls.

Well they may have done so but I personally have no evidence to support this. Like you I still get drops of these damn useless 'rare' books and am beginning to think that the existence of 115 and 120 scrolls is a myth.

I wonder how much longer I will persist in my efforts to get one.

So far, there's only one Stratics user that was rumored to have Book 6, and even that turned out to be a false lead.

I've gotten 2 120s, but no 115 PS or book 5s. I've gotten enough 110s to make a 115 for one friend (and if I hadn't distributed a bunch of 110s to all my alliance members with fishers, could have made another), and 2 of the 110s came from combining 105s.

I just wish there was an explanation why we can go along with a bunch of 4-6 line quests, then get 8-10 1-2 liners in a row, before the big numbers come back.

Actually spreading out the 110's is a good idea. At 106 orders for dungeon fishes are possible and more players at 110 (106+) means more players with chances for book 6 or 120 ps.

When you guys got Power Scrolls (105, 110 whatever) what was the order?

I have done atleast 40 orders but theyve always been either 1 fish quantity of 10, 15 or 20 or 2-3 different fish quantity of 10, 15 or 20.

All i've gotten as rewards were crappy bait, lava pole or 300 Volume 2 books.

You need to do a considerable amount more quests to get to scrolls from there, to build up the reputation. You also need a high level of fishing to get better quests (106 for Dungeon Fish offers is the big hurdle). I started getting 105s at roughly around 50 points of fish total, with 5x Deep Sea/Crustacean hand ins. I've got nine 105s so far. After that, at around 65-75 points, I got a 110. I then got a 120 scroll from a 110 total point, 6 fish hand in (2x crustaceans, 4x 20 Dungeon Fish I think it was). Since then I've had 2 more 110 scrolls, but nothing else... and I've been doing about 20 quests a day, and fishing whilst reading books, watching movies etc whilst at the keyboard for about 8 hours a day.

I also have 12 Lava Lobster traps, 6 Lava Rods, Dragonfish books 1 to 4 over and over again, and 600+ bait in some cases (and 19 different types of bait). My last hand in just gave Koi Carp Bait, and I'm currently sailing to Skara Brae to hand in a 90 point quest... (20 Spiney Lobster, 20 Hummer Lobster, 15 Haddock, 10 Tarpon, 20 Bluegill Sunfish, 10 Drake Fish). I expect it to be bait or book again to be honest, but you have to do them to keep reputation up for each of those types of fish, and hope the next roll is a better one.

I am glad you can combine the baits so as to limit lockdowns taken up in your house. I am also glad you can turn in the unnamed crabs and lobsters to the Library.

I sell my books to the local provisioner for 7gp. I do this when I sell the footwear to the cobbler, just to clean up my backpack.

The Fishing quest point system as programmed...

Shallow Fish: 1 point each.
Deep-water fish and Crustaceans: 2 points each.
Dungeon Fish: 3 points each.

If you get a bait reward, the bait will have a number of uses equal to the total point value of the fish, divided by 2, ignoring fractions. (capped at 100 uses, so a 220 point quest would only have a 100-use bait if you gor bait as a reward).

Adol is using an approximation of this, that is totally WRONG to use, where people use the bait count as the "point value" of the quest. The reasons you shouldn't use the "bait value" point system are:
A. You end up, instead of adding everything and dividing by 2, having to multiply decimals, and a lot of people suck at that (from my experience in math for teaching classes, where classmates who intended to become teachers. routinely stumbled over decimal math I could do in my head).
B. The bait size is capped at 100, so a 6x20 dungeon fish quest would give the same reward as a 5x20 deep water fish quest. This only feeds into confusion when their "X" point reward gives less than they expect, since the system they are using is based on a PART of the reward system, and one that stops being continuous at slightly over the half-way point.
C. Simply, it's NOT the system in the game. Using it is like insisting that you describe the DI added from Anatomy by the Anatomy skill itself, not the actual amount of DI that results from plugging the Anatomy value into the formula (as there is a break in the formula at GM where a +5% bonus is gained).

120s appear to start being possible rewards for quests worth 200 points (or 100 points in the "bait cup use" system) or higher.

I suspect, that there is a fishmongers' reputation reset that has been coded once a 6 liners or a number of 6 liners is being given. That is, it is a cycle of rinse and repeat "ad infinitum"............

Work reputation, get a few 6-liners, loose reputation, need to work it up again 'till the cycle repeats on and on and on...........

I just HOPE that there is no bug in this cycling system because I WOULD HATE to see the reputation reset JUST because I got a few dud 6-liners. That is, 6-liners of not enough points because of the assortment of fish/crabs/lobsters requested, to grant any really good reward....

Just imagine the pain, work tons of Quests (and fishing to fill in those quests....) to build up reputation, then get a few bad 6-liners bringing home hardly anything worthy, and see the reputation being reset and have to work it up again.........only to see more useless 6-liners being given and loose reputation back again ??

Since so far quite a few bugs have surfaced from the fishmonger Quests system, I am a bit concerned about how well the whole system might work.........

Is this normal?!

early on, yes - especially if you waited until after GM to do quests, and concentrate on gains more than quests.

Mark described the system working as follows (steps A-D. E & F are the logical extension of his description, and a possible cause of anomalous small quest sizes).

A. When you ask for a quest, all quests start as 1-liners.
B. A check is then made, to see if it gains another line. Below 105 skill, this check appears to be X/42, where X is the number of possible fish types (shallow, deep & crustacean, not counting the plain varieties), you have completed at least as many prior quests for as the current number of lines of the quest.
C. If the check is a success, then it gains one line, and step B is repeated for the new number of lines, up until the quest has 6 lines.
D. If the check fails (or if the added line gives it 6 lines), it stops, giving you the quest.
E. Sometime between 100 and 105, the Dungeon fish get added in (even if you can't get the quests until 106 skill, for them), and the check should become X/54. Since the number of possible fish suddenly includes 28%+ more types, the number of lines in quests becomes more erratic until you fill 4 or more quests for all dungeon types.
F. There MIGHT also be a bug where the non-quest fish (the ones used for the new recipes) might be getting added in as well, which would explain why a 100% chance of a 2-liner doesn't seem to be attainable after the Dungeon fish start being counted.
