Generic kill-quests should reward community collections widgets.

You know the dudes in Heartwood who want you to kill some earth elementals or daemons or whatever? Those quests that nobody EVER does because the rewards are utter garbage nobody wants?

Those should give reward trophies (call them something else, whatever you want) that the community collections will accept in exchange for points. Preferrably a pretty fair number of points.

This requires very little development overhead and accomplishes three things:

1) Gives players a new semi-randomized thing to do, something that gets them moving around the world a bit instead of just finding a spawn and camping it.
2) Makes those quests that are sitting there useless have a point for the first time since they were added years ago.
3) Gives players who don't want to script-craft a billion bucklers (or something stupid like that) a way to work toward community collection rewards.

It seems like a no-brainer. As it stands, I have no idea what the design intent of community collections even is, besides getting people to craft tons of garbage.

I disagree. They should take away from community collections, anything else is just pandering to those who we should not be bothering with.

Hrmph, I still do these Heartwood quests that most consider trivial. Well at least when I remember. Guess I try to maximize everything I do, if I am going to kill lizardmen for spined leather, I might as well get the little quest for it too.

I admit they are not worth most peoples time but I still do em.

This is actually a great idea. Lets face it, 99.99% of the shard never bothers to do the Heartwood quests, or the community collections. Those that do the Heartwood quests, usually need a recipe, or maybe a runic kit. Those that do the Community collections, just drop the gold on them, or script their butts off.

Sounds good to me, having to tame 7k polar bears for a 350k point item at the zoo seems alittle crazy.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I've never done any of the community collections for the reasons listed above (3k polar bears ... really? why? ... wait, i need to turn in HOW many frying pans?) so it would be nice if you could gain points while doing something you already do rather than wasting resources and time when gold is almost always the better option.

I also have never done any heartwood kill-quests since, as stated, there really isnt a reason to. The idea above would at least give me a reason to pick up the quests if i am going to be killing mob "x" anyway.

I'm an achievement addict, so adding achievements to UO would be uhhh.. not good for me.

I am as well. Honestly in WoW, I actually "like" grinding achievements and reputation as donkey/carrot as it might be.

Yeah, wouldn't it be nice to go into Heartwood and see people running to turn in quests? Instead of just that one guy on a pack beetle who's there 24/7 scripting?
