A new cancelled Ultima game arises

In 2008 I pitched to EA a reboot of Ultima IV on Nintendo DS. The idea was to make a brand new interpretation of my favorite game of all time. I wanted to shine a completely new light on the Ultima universe, while keeping all the great core values of the original game. Wa wanted to make it on NDS which cruelly lacked of good western RPGs. The project was canceled 6 months after the original pitch. This is a first sprite line up I did of the main characters plus a troll. I wanted a clean 2D look.
I for one thing am quite happy that this got cancelled for this reason:

How exactly did the artist feel that artwork style was appropriate for Ultima? Especially for the game in the series that focused on "virtue" as its driving force?

Nothing says "virtue" like scantily clad busty women and angsty ex-samurai looking characters.

Conan the Avatar.

You are not a Knight; you are not even noble; you are not even of this world.

I care not. Truth, Love, and Courage, and I am content.

Conan, what is best in life?

To console your enemies, to see them stand besides you, and to hear the celebrations of their women.

I love the Origin Ultimas very much, it makes me really unhappy that a new generation will be introduced to something so wonderful as an anime :|

Bioware/Mythic: when you do reboot an Ultima, please follow the SPIRIT of the originals, not just a Dragon age 2-esque desperate money grubbing leap at cash.

Wasn't FF I effectively an Ultima III clone (especially if you look at the NES version of UIII)?

Speaking of busty women, have you seen the Japanese UO homepage? Woman on the left has breasts twice the size of her head!

I haven't played Ultima III, but I have never heard this before. They are probably as similar as UO and WOW. Both in the same genre, but clearly different games with different systems.

Ultima III pretty much created the traditional JRPG genre in a lot of ways. Its influence is seen even till today in such series as Wizardry and Final Fantasy. It created the whole overmap + turn based tactical combat which is quite popular in the East.

That begin said, Ultima in and of itself has never been a JRPG. The closest it has ever got is some Gameboy offshoots that were to be honest, nothing like Ultima whatsoever and some NES ports of Ultima that animed the game up like crazy - but were still relatively WRPGish.

Scantily clad women are the best part of an RPG.

Don't tell me none of you boned the hooker in Buc's Den in U9.

About the only major differences I remember is that UIII was first person view movement in the dungeons (until you hit combat), and FF I was overhead view. This of course required you to map the dungeons in UIII.

Minor differences were that you didn't have to buy spells in UIII, and the party couldn't perma-die (one party would be called back from the darkness by LB, then you'd have to get the money to get the party rezzed, or rez them yourself. This led to contests in character naming to see who could make LB scream out the most obscene/silly name to call the party back from death)

I did, but I saved before I did it.

And I believe the game I used to proceed was the one without said boning.

Frankly I was a tad concerned the boning would play an unanticipated role in the outcome.

Not sure how that all balances out.
