Allow me to summarize:

LLewelen: Hey guys, remember this non-issue that I brought up a year ago? Well, I was wrong. Nothing changed and I now realize that they aren't overpowered.

those things are so utterly useless. It's not like they attack all the time anyways, they just follow you around 90% of the time. & if I recall charming one with a weaver takes 3 slots.

Maybe the charmed ones do, which is great, three slots is what they should take imo. The library talisman ones take one slot, which is still ridiculous in my opinion. But the real issue here was that these were being used in combination with attack scripts of some sort, which made them truly devastating.

Your condescension and snobbery have been noted, congratulations. As for the patch note I referred to, I've been unable to find it, so maybe I did imagine it...

Regrettably, I can't defend myself because discussing the specifics would be a violation of the ROC here on these forums, but yes their use was quite widespread, especially among dexxer and archer tamers. I'll give you a hint though, they probably weren't called "scripts" they were probably called "macros".

However, what are called "macros" in the context of the illegal third party app that I am referring to are not macros in the sense of UOA or default client macros in either the classic or enhanced clients. Macros do not typically contain programming logic, while scripts do, and the macros in this illegal third party app that I am referring to can contain programming logic, in addition to having available fairly complex functions. In other words, they aren't what would typically be understood to be a "macro", they are scripts.

The use of this particular illegal third party app is so widespread among pvp circles in UO that I highly suspect that many don't even consider it to be a form of cheating anymore. But it most certainly is.

Yes, I have done my research. Yes, I do have access to "inside information". Yes, I do know what I am talking about...

By "programming logic" I mean specifically that you can use variables and conditional statements, which you cannot do with what we typically refer to as "macros". I have heard some say that this program is identical to UO Assist. Nothing could be further from the truth, you can do many things with this program that you cannot do with UO Assist, which would be why one is legitimate and the other is a cheat.

One thing that has changed in the past couple of months for me is my understanding that this third party application that I am referring to is actually more of an issue in pvp than "the-program-which-shall-not-be-named". And as I said, it's use is so widespread that I expect that there are at least some who are not even aware that it is a cheat, and many others who have convinced themselves that it isn't with statements such as, "It's identical to UO Assist".

Thread necromancy is bad enough... but resurrecting a troll fest is even worse.
