The Great UO Twitter Thread

So... I was updating my site and decided to integrate Twitter for updates and stuff (like Game of Thrones impressions). I did that. Then I was thinking of shameless ways to promote myself. And instead of doing that, I thought I'd open it up to everyone because I bet a lot of UO players have Twitter accounts. (Now everyone can be equally shameless.)

You can follow me on Twitter @UOThief

How can other people follow you?

(I'm physically incapable of feeling shame.)

I dont always post about UO. Mostly it is political comments or filthy jokes @Specialshoes. And yes I am scum enough to piggy back off of someone elses idea.

What EA or someone should do is create a Twitter Account for each Shard. Maybe EM's could run the main thread and then people could post additional info such as 'COM base under attack!', 'XYZ Guild doing Harrower' etc.

Then people who are NOT currently playing would get alerted to log in for events etc. It would really boost the people playing the game.

Theo that is a huge community building possibility that will be as complicated and headache ridden as it is awesome!

ban the 2D client.

Other than that, no issues with Twitter... not like it doesn't already exists or anything... and not like that doesn't already happen...

I could be a nice community builder I guess :)

Heh, in true UHall fashion--or OT, I might add--I spent quite a bit of time over at the IMDB forum, with a lively discussion regarding how I felt "Rome" was a better first show than "Game of Thrones." Needless to say, some of the fanboys and girls were upset with my initial reaction, however, most critics felt the first episode was the weakest of the early series as well, especially the adaptation of the Danys subplot. In that thread, I also explained--while not having read the novels--why . As for the second episode, well, I'd need the OT thread to complete my thoughts there ;P ...
but the hair found at the scene of the "accident" was all too CSI medieval, and predictable
. So far I'm sticking to my premise of Rome being the better war driven, sex induced period show on HBO in the last decade, hehe.

As long as UO has an RSS feed there really is no need for a Twitter, but having a Facebook account and a Twitter account must make a company look good to the executives up top since every company seems to aspire to have FB and Twitter presence nowadays. Since we have an RSS feed from the Herald and we have three different options for forums (UO Guide, UO Forums and UO Stratics), Twitter--and Facebook--don't seem quite as important. Also, Twitter and Facebook do not have the anonymity a message board does; sometimes I think anonymity helps provide discussion, for better or worse.

The point was not about providing discussion as much as it was to provide notification. The idea being Twitter would provide shard specific notifications. You can subscribe to whatever shard you would like to follow and em's could hit the twitter feed to notify people of events. So instead of trying to keep up in game or read a UO Herald that is updated like 1/week - an EM could Twitter 'EM Event starting at brit bank in 10 min' and everyone following would get a notification on their mobile device or whatever.

THAT would bring people to play UO.

I admit I haven't looked at the RSS feed but I doubt it is shard specific and how do others post to it?

But yeah, Twitter is fun to use I think :). I like message boards better for true replies, or discussion, though, but Tweet Deck and stuff like that does make it pretty easy.

I usually post to @ravenofminoc whenever I update my blog. Some UO stuff or other things I just want to write about. Raven also has his own Facebook page with 1 fan! Woot!

As for RSS feeds, I subscribe to stuff, then forget to look at the feeds. I need something more "in my face" to keep my attention. Twitter or Facebook have the advantage of easily setting up notifications for mobile devices.

Stratics also has a twitter feed, but I rarely see anything posted to it.

If you want to consolidate accounts, try Seesmic. I tried to download and install Tweetdeck and it wouldn't install, so I tried Seesmic and it's running just fine.

*Edit* Forgot to mention, Stratics also has a FB page, but seems to only show videos on it.

It would be nice if the folks at Stratics gave us more options for using social media to keep up with things. But I guess that bypasses the ads they display on the website...

I think the individual EM's should be able to set up their own Twitter accounts to keep folks up to date. Unless EA has some policy against that... any EM's wanna respond?
