The Spirit of Siege Perilous

I didnt want to mess up the current banter on the GZ thread about Mag, so I figured it was a different point I wanted to make.

Mag takes the "never safe" spirit away from Siege P.

I love the fact that your never safe here. Even if typing a pleasent hello you can get attacked and dropped before you realize it. If your in town, and you go afk for a cup of coffee, you take that chance of grey screen even if its only for a minute. I love the fact that some old school vets can turbo loot by hand. I love when you see someone in thier house, if you try really hard you KNOW you can kill um. I love it when im farming and that rare red name pops up and you jump so high in yur chair your legs sometimes almost blast the table over. Siege has always had the NEVER SAFE attitude... It part of the loving drug that keeps hard core vets coming back. It the ones like us that have played on barneyland shards, farming for hours, knowing nothing will ever harm you, and if it did, its a simple .1 sec recall spell to safety. BAHHHH... Mag takes from that spirit. And unless I hear of a way to "with reasonable effort" kill someone afk in a locked private house, I wont be happy with it.

The game needs to mature and one damn town wont kill the spirit, just dent it a little. Again I wont be happy till we know a way to kill that AFK macro'r inside that safe pixel block.

Siege is also about excepting changes, usually ones we dont like. Lets move on and hope that the little block of barneyland love inside Siege bring us more players.

Long Live the Spirit of Siege

Nice Post!
I agree 100%!
White Lighter?
Started UO on Sanoma 12 years ago. I began my UO life as Fast Eddie.
Played for about 6 months and a friend BEGGED me to move to this new shard, with new rules, and SOOOO much housing space... He was amazed that there was actually places on a shard to place houses. So I made the move... And so was birthed Love Handles.

Played him as a tamer and then a friend quit and gave me White Lighter and Walmart. He came back like a year later and wanted a account, so i gave him back Walmart (he sold him), I sold Love Handles, and became White Lighter.

I was getting all my RL friends and family into the game and when my closest friend went to Iraq (the real Krews, his last name), I turned off White Lighter and became Krews.

In that time I had met another player named herb, and he too gave up UO and gave me all 3 of his accounts... King Edward, Guardian KX, and herb.

Again my RL friend came back from the military, wanted his little bro to play, so I gave him back Krews.

By this time White Lighter is old news... Shes a 120 mage bard with 2 SS's. I already have those skills on GX so she's mothballed for life I think.

RL herb wanted to play again so I gave him back herb and King Ed, whom he rarely plays but i still have access too. By this time I have every skill on 32 SS's on Guardian KX and only char that has any difference is herb... hes a red. Tried playing a red but dont have the heart for it. Every time I did I ended up giving the person more back than they started with just so they wouldn't give up on the shard.

So alas I'm Guardian KX... But I answer to Love Handles, Walmart, White Lighter, Krews, Guardian KX, and of course the rudely hated, bad mouthed a woman about her dying mother (cant ever forget can we Kelmo), best knowledgable ruling tamer on the shard "King Edward".

Very good post. I am still very wary of the "just a little Trammel" mentality though because of what it is attracting. People are coming here not to play by Siege's rules, they're coming here and trying to change Siege's rules to suit them. I'm worried that, just like all bad things, they start small and through small incremental changes, you don't even recognize what's left. Cries of "oh just leave it, let the devs focus on something more important" really worry me because, before long, we will look back and wonder what happened to Siege. A lot of the vets that have left already say that.

Everyone of us joined Siege Perilous to play this game the way we believe we should. We are individuals in play, with individual choices.

With that Spirit, we all do what can under existing limitations of this game's design.

No one is powerless to act.

If this New Magincia is against your view then you can make a choice.

You can remove Magincia from your playing field, do not go there, avoid those who use the city. If you want, pk those who oppose what you want.
All of this is allowed by the ruleset.

You can try persuade the developers to change the ruleset here and there, but the final choice is always made by the individuals who remain by how they play the game.

Right now, we need cooperation to create player run towns... many have tried... many have failed. I would like to see something more than a collection of houses from the outside... I would like to be able to walk into every house there is. But, Siege Perilous has predator past, present, and future which will not change. Many players are circling their wagons in Magincia with some hope for new times.

I invite everyone on Siege Perilous to play their part in a Civilization game paradigm.

I found private housing to be a good thing from time to time. if I had to do something for the wife, or my son came by, or I had to help him with something, a quick gate home, and I could go idle for a bit without worrying about combat timer, and insta-log at an inn, not have to worry about GZ killers/looters.

Though I certainly would have went public if I had a custom house near the end, but keeps dont allow for public homes, with a small private, safe idle room.
