[UO News]

Deleted Rubble in Magincia

We have researched and discovered the reason Rubble is being deleted in Magincia. This issue will be fixed after your next maintenance on all shards. Until then, please do not do not lock down your Rubble in Magincia.

If you have lost Rubble, please send a list of lost items to [email protected] along with your account name (no passwords), shard and your lot number. These items will attempt verified from a back up of your shard and your items will be replaced. Please make sure to lock down a container on your steps if you do not have a mailbox so we can drop these items into it.

When your items are replaced you will receive a confirmation email stating so.

Update to Monday’s (4/11/2011) Publish

The shards Legends, Great Lakes, Catskills and Siege were taken down this afternoon to fix an issue with the Magincia Lot tickets not identifying themselves correctly. Remember you can not do a character transfer till after the next maintenance on these shards.

Upmost upmost upmost respect for the dev team they are finally using last server save to see what was on what char on what server for verification and replacing items.

Its been a long time coming from the years of canned responses saying they will not replace items when they have just figured out the items can be verified and replaced.

I APLAUDE YOU DEVS your finally using the tools you have to help the misfortunat, this is a huge huge huge turning point in the history of Ultima Online and i think i dont stand alone in thanking you and hope this will continue to prevent people loosing items, an ultimatly quiting because of the GMs canned responses.

Devs thats why you need a good focus testing team, testing this things, and not of QA of players! Then you can safe a lot of work in all ways, think about it maybe you can do a program like that. Also a chracter copy for Test Center is essential for good testing enviroment, see that you can get it ready soon.

thanks for going that extra step and helping those who are already rich to continue to get richer. surely, each though many, many other people have lost valuable items throughout the years and it was assumed that we were SOL, it's nice to know that with status comes the ability to actually get help.

let's not kid ourselves. the only reason they're doing this is because they know that the vast majority of people who own the new magicinia plots are the virtual elite and the gold brokers and you wouldn't want to **** them off.

I feel you are very wrong and this is way off base.

Another way to look at it is that the years of complaints and frustrations with lost items is now being addressed. While they can not go backwards in time to fix everyone and they sure are making an effort now.

This has nothing to do with anyones status or level in game.

I agree... a broker is going to be listing the home for sale, not building a home and deco'ing it with rubble...

On the other side of the of Today's Maintenance, my broken deed on legends was fixed. logged on and dropped the plot on the first try. So thanks for fixing the problem very quickly.

Yea, I don't think anyone posted about rubble in their bank box. Did anyone else lose some there? A friend on Chesapeake said she noticed some rubble missing from her box.

I'm 100% certain. I have tables that were 3 sections long missing middle parts , some benches missing ends etc.

Given that is gonna require a load of each shard's backup, I won't come to expect that this will be done very often. Certainly not for an individual player's complaint. I think this exception was made because it was clearly an oversight that was not caught and effected enough players to warrant the work.

You can all go back to your conspiracy theories now....

Two quick things:

First, major kudos for stepping up to the plate and working to replace lost rubble! It's very, very refreshing, and I applaud the move!

Second, just a suggestion... please make a new mailbox item -- put it in as a new quest for a carpentry recipe for that matter -- and make mailboxes craftable. That'll preserve the uniqueness of the original item while making it so that anyone can have one. Those are so nice to have that it would be a shame that anyone would miss out on having one just by not having had the opportunity to claim one and having to pay more than one is worth.

I had my entire collection packed up in a rubble container last night preparing it to transfer to pac tonight, when i logged on the container and all that was within has now vanished...fire pit, saddle, everything...gone... Too bad for other ppl who had lost items over the years due to other bugs and only got the canned "up yours - no replacement" messages.

Nice to see them put in some time to try and rectify the situation. It seems like it was a programming problem (maybe going back to when the rubble was first released a couple years ago), so they know what caused it to go poof. If the rubble when poof at server up then they should be able to go back to the backup done at server down and check those plots. If the rubble went poof the day, I'm not sure how often they make back-ups of the shards. Is it just at server down, or is it every X number of hours.

While I didn't get a Mag house (didn't even bid), I have lost several expense items over the years due to bug and glitches. I understand they don't have the manpower or time to go back looking at backup tapes every time someone pages a GM because they lost an item. Second, even if they could go back and see that you had the item the day before or even an hour or two ago, there probably isn't anyway (unless each item has a unique identifier) to see if the item is gone or if you lost it in your house or bank bank, or even sold it. I say let them make an except to the replace items lost this time and if this happens again under similar circumstances they do the same thing.

This one sounds rather different technically.

I don't think they necessarily lack the capacity to find out what you and and replace it. I just think they don't always have that capacity and I think that it's often a pain in the ass to verify and a lot of our player base are experts at playing the system.

So it is often easier to just not replace anything, as a matter of blanket policy.

Wow, I am surprised about the attempts to recover the lost items. Bravo! Since 97 I have lost quite a few items and after the first few letdowns from being shotdown, I gave up even asking whenever something was lost.

Although, many many years ago I lost a heavy x-bow when a gm was trying to fix a backpack problem and he replaced it. The only reason I mention this is because this just happened to be a rather infamous GM and he replaced the x-bow with something a tad bit more powerful. (I'm sure some of you old timers will catch what I'm hinting at.)

For everyone's information:
Items have been replaced before, on rare occasions servers have been reverted. But all under the same circumstances.
When the loss was a DIRECT and IMMEDIATE result of a bug introduced in a publish or patch, ie caused by actions of EA.

This is the first time I noticed UO replacing items. It's nice to know they can replace items if they want to. I know many are saying why couldn't they help me when something like this happened. Well I guess it depends on who is running things.
Opening of Malas a GM was helping me with my bugged 18x18 items were unlocking. He was kind enough to help me replace the house without having someone run by and place a house.The GM picked up every chest maxed out 18x18 and placed them in his pack. He lost a few chests and one chest was packed with old rares. The GM even said your rares are so nice but
in the end all he said was sorry i cant find them because my packed it so full omg!
I even wrote about this and you know what they said. I can say this for everyone having your items replaced you should write a very nice thank you letter in this thread. I will even say Thank you for the ones who don't visit this site. THANK YOU

This is my thinking there was not enough players that lost rubble so the issue was not important enough to cause a shard revert so they did plan B trying to replace the rubble

I just hope Messana did not take water over her head with this one

What about stuff that might have vanished from bank boxes? I have two pieces of the large rubble bed I can't seem to find anymore, and I remember having in my bankbox a few days ago. Today I can't find them in any inventory I have, and I have spent some time in Magincia in the time since I last saw them. And I really don't think its just them that have vanished, but I can't fully remember what all I had in my bankbox as about a third of my rubble was stored in there.

Since the bank box is part of the character, the same thing could very well have happened just from standing around there for a while.. which i've done several times in the last week.

I am glad people can get their rubble back..however how about replacing that house full of stuffs that was rare/special/sentimental to Me because of an in game bug even though your gamemaster claimed the problem was fixed and i paid $12.99 to maintain...

There have been several things they have replaced in the past. The last one I remember was the Gingerbread houses from the xmas gifts. They would chop instead of re deed. There were a few others but that one comes to mind.

This is just silly. Stupid bug, but not worth a replacement in my opinion.


With respect to the rubble:

I think that it is great for people who lost a bunch of stuff due to a bug to get it back.

However, people loose stuff all the darn time. Acount problems, theft, weird bugs are not uncommon. Now we have a group of people loose their rubble and all of a sudden they get individual reverts of their lost pixels. I think this sets a dangerous precedent. As much as I dislike the old policy, this is a slipery slope. Another issue is this: are there unique identifiers on these pieces of rubble or is there a chance that this could be misused?

What is the treshold going to be from now on? Why can't I get my poofed items back? If anything, i wish they would do some kind of character restoration function for people that loose their accounts to hackers or thiefs. That has been a much bigger problem for UO than the loss of a bunch of pixels, i think.
