Demons; evil mages; high-level demonic monsters like onis and balrons and succubui (or however that's spelled); lich lords; ancient liches.

I partied up a Glorious Lord one time, and used the healing bardsong, and in just a few minutes I'd gone from as negative as one can be in karma to positive. I don't remember how high it went, though.

I have another question about Karma.....

Now that we can actually see the Karma points (left click on oneself and select Loyalty option...), is there an upper limit to the Karma that one can reach or the sky is the limit ?

There is an upper and lower cap for Karma, although I don't remember what it is.
However, aside from having it visible in the client, The details haven't changed from what's described on the main UO Stratics site, which includes the karma caps.

On the Reputation FAQ: Reputation the only reference I could find was about gains' CAps

Are there caps for gaining Fame and Karma?

All actions that earn Fame or Karma have caps. You have to perform deeds greater than your current Fame or Karma to raise them. So, if you're used to raising your Fame by killing Daemons, you'll gain slower and slower until eventually you won't gain at all.
On the Fame and Karma Reputation Titles page it just says, generically, "10,000 and above".........

It is unclear if this "above" has a CAP limit or the sky is the limit.....

Could not find anything else about a possible CAP for Karma.

I remembered that wrongly, then.
There is a cap, though.
It's either +/-10,000 or +/-15,000, I forget which, but if you wear a cloak of corruption for a while, then you'll get to see the lower cap, then if you remove the -, you have the upper cap :)

Demons. If you can handle it. On top of the temple on fire Island. Always 2 at same time.

Cap for fame and Karma is 32000. + and - .

Only at - 32000 Karma your evil enough ;)

So -32,000 or +32,000 are the 2 hard CAPs for Karma ?

Does anyone know whether there is a formula known or a calculator to figure out the time lasting periods linked to Karma points for both the Chivalry and the Necromancy spells ?

Since getting down to -32,000 or up to +32,000 is not exactly that fast, I wonder if one needs it for either necro or chiv spells duration whether it is really worth it going all the way down (or up) there.......

So, a calculator or at least knowing the formula would help trying to figure out where to stop with one's own karma.

Thanks.

Since we dont see much Five on Friday these days, let me have my own Five on Saturday :):

What are the highest and the lowest values of Karma?
The highest and the lowest values are +/-32,000. This is also valid for monsters.

Most chivalry spell formulas are based on +/-20,000 karma, is there any bonus for going beyond these values?
No, the karma value is capped at -20,000 for chivalry spells. Going lower than this value does not have any effect. *(need a real FoF verification for this)

How do you gain Karma?
The formula for the Karma is:

If the creature has positive Karma:
Karma Lost = (Slayed Creature's Karma /100) - (Character's Karma / 100)

If the creature has negative Karma:
Karma Gained = -( (Slayed Creature's Karma /100) + (Character's Karma / 100) )

These values can not go lower than zero: you cant gain karma if (-Creature's Karma < Your Karma) or lose karma if (Creature's Karma < -Your Karma)

Which creature has the lowest Karma, thus yield the higest gain?
That would be Putrefier at -32,000 karma, followed by Abcess at -30,000 and Pyre, Rend, Red dEath at -28,000.

Which creature has the higest Karma, thus yield the higest loss?
That would be Lord Oaks at 22,500 karma, followed by Silvani, Cu-Sidhe and Pixie [Renowned] at 20,000

I've found hunting the succubus to be the quickest way for me to obtain Glorious Lord/Lady status.

I used to do evil mages & daemons, now I do 2 rounds of the goblin spawn, that normally gets me to the top title after I've sacrificed it off

Was about to say, I have a newer toon I used a cloak of corruption with to train healing up.. Got to -32000 pretty quick, he's something like positive 13000 now... Just took a couple of lich spawns to get him to GL, that's the fastest way I've seen..

And of course the absolute, bar none, best way to gain Karma hasn't been available to us for awhile: The Queen Dawn side of the "Treasures of Ricardo" chapter of the In the Shadow of Virtue event cycle!

It was my understanding that positive (+) Karma help chivalry spells to last for longer....

Does this mean that there is no point to raise Karma beyond +20,000 to make Chivalry spells last more ?? It stops at +20,000 ??

Is that the same for negative Karma for necromancy spells ? It makes no use to drop below -20,000 to have necromancy spells last for longer ?

Thanks for the clarification.

as far as exact numbers, no one will tell us how much
only certain necro spells are affected by karma is my understanding

I have a paladin that did max out karma at +32000. According to some of the formulas that the devs listed, there's no real benefit to karma past +20000. I think holy light is suppose to have some effect, but it's probably limited to 20000 karma too.

From ORIGIN - Ultima Online - Main

The base formula is as follows: duration in seconds = (square root(karma + 20000 + (Chivalry*100)) / divisor)
If you put -32k karma to the above formula, you end up with a complex number. To solve this, they probably capped karma inside the formulations at 20k:

"Karma" can be anything from -20000 to 20000.
For example, at -20,000 karma and 50.0 Chivalry, Enemy of One spell duration is: (divisor = 1)

duration in seconds = square root(-20000 + 20000 + (50*100))

= square root(5000) = 70 seconds (rounded down).

This 70 seconds is the least amount of duration and is valid even at -25k karma or -32k karma (tested).

-32,000 karma is important since it makes the above formula "0" at 120 chivalry:

duration in seconds = square root(-32000 + 20000 + (120*100)) = 0

This proves problematic since the duration is 70 seconds at 50.0 Chivalry, it wouldnt be fair for it to be zero at 120 with the same amount of negative karma.

I havent tested the positive karma effect yet.
