Chat ignoring by IP.

So I was told in general chat a couple days ago by A Player Who Has Friends in High Places that we will soon be able to ignore people in general chat by their IP address.

Two different people in general chat immediately informed me that they'd be getting my IP and the first one was going to hack my account himself, the other was going to get his "tec" friend to do it.

Not too worried about the second guy having any tech friends since he can't even spell tech, but should I be worried about the first wannabe IP account hacker?

And when's the promised ethereal clothing nuke going to take place, since The Player With Friends in High Places who spilled the chat ignore by IP beans is still running around in his exploit ethereal cloak?

Players who claim to have quote: ' Friends in High Places' aren't always being truthful.

I once had someone demand that I leave a hunting area because he wanted to hunt there, he had a friend who was a GM and since it is an American game he had more right there than me. On Europa. I ignored him of course.

I highly doubt EA are going to make people's ip addresses accessible to players, but I will attempt to bring this thread to the attention of someone who can dispel the rumour.

This can be done on server-side without giving the ip information to the client that ignored a specific player. As Petra already suggested, I wouldnt be so concerned about those players.

This is quite possible, since this player also once told me to check my Stratics email, because he was going to 'send' me something.

I hate email and certainly never read any of them unless absolutely necessary and I don't even recall which of my email accounts is linked to this site, so that particular threat was a dud from the get go.

I can't imagine EA would be so sloppy as to make IP addresses visible. They'd be opening themselves up to a world of hurt if they made that info available to just anyone who wanted it.

I'd bet anything this guy was either misinformed and passing on top quality BS because he didn't get his facts straight or he's just blowing smoke to get you riled up.

Either way, I'd just ignore him.

Second, if he was going or could to do such a thing why not hack people instead of just ignoring a player. May as well hack if the person could even have such information availabe to him through a game.

Just to ease your fears or concerns which truly you shouldn't worry about anyway. Let me explain something if you wanted to change your IP. Btw just logging out of the game does not change your IP.

One of the easier methods to change your IP address is to turn off your modem, router, and computer overnight. At least a minimum of 8 hours. Then turn it back on the following morning. It WILL NOT work if your ISP has a long lease time set for your IP

A long lease is determined by whoever your provider is. This varies from a couple hours to days and or a year. So basicaly I am saying your IP to day could be the same tomorrow/month/ or next year or not. Just depends on your provider and how your IP was assigned to you.

Now at my new offices I have a static IP which can be only changed by my provider so I cant change that for anything on my end. It's more for a security purpose on my business.

yeah i wouldnt worry about this, although a great feature that could be implented, especially for those who have numerous accts and sole purpose is too be annoying and impose there self righteous yet ignorant ideas.have you tried just turning general chat off? or just go to another chat room? this works alot for most people

As for the so called hacking .. if they knew what they were doing they would not be playing uo they would be on wow hacking peoples accounts. Don't accept any emails dont go to sites they reccomend and you be safe forever from thier third rate hacking attempts. And if you do get some email thats suspicious use a scanner and check it most email providers check for you or have tools avalible not to mention windows now has good security tools that are free well excepting the fact you paid for windows.


I just want to be able to close the chat window in EC it gets so irritateing.
