Need advice on building Warrior/Sampy

He generally pvms/farms and does the occasional spawn or Melisande etc...

Is a Sampy still a viable character for this and if so, what is the best template/gear?

Yes , sampire is probably still best template for solo peerless / spawns.

About template and gear, tbh this question is asked once a week. See Lynk's response

There is a standard template and a lot of variations of this, tbh i think there is no best one. More soulstones and more warrior chars to pick skills from is always best.
As for gear, a lot of people are building high end suits atm using mace&shield glasses, tinker legs, 4 imbued then enhanced woodland pieces, crimson, imbued jewelry.

The 'best' template comes down to personal preference.

My personal favorite sampire template is discussed here in detail. Not only the template, but the armor/weapons/suits, as well as strategy.

Depends on the age of your son. Is he good at multi-taking and keeping up with health bars, spells, effects, and potions or does he need something more simple to play?

Lynks LJ Sampire thread that he posted is a really good one.

Throwing wammys are incredible.

Mystic macers are also good.

The most important thing is to have a balance between challenge and ability for your son's age. If the template is too easy to play (click-n-kill) then he is going to get bored pretty quick. If its too hard and uses too many macros (necro-mage comes to mind) then he will not want to play it.

Also, are you hunting with him or is he going solo? Sampires are awesome solo, but if you want to hunt with your son he might enjoy something like a bard (especially fun are mystic bards). There is a lot of fun to be had in playing together if you have support characters.
