[UO Herald] Asia and Pacific Shards Hardware Maintenance

Beginning 7 a.m. February 19th – February 24th (Japan dates and time) Asia and Pacific Region shards (to Include Japan, Korea, and Taiwan) will begin migration to the new BLADE hardware.
Maintenance windows for the first few shards may extend beyond eight hours. This is due to limited space in the facility, and some hardware organization may be required as systems are migrated. As installation continues downtimes should diminish.
The intent is to keep downtime as low as possible and get you back to playing. We will provide downtime expectations as each shard migrates.

For Oceania
We have identified a vendor who will allow us to support Ultima Online in an environment within Australia. However, it will be necessary to test and setup all of the customer support tools, and account information communication before finally moving the shard. Also, for the new location in Australia, we need to make certain you will get acceptable and playable pingtimes.
In the interim it will be necessary to host Oceania again in California for a short time. We do not expect the transition to take longer than two additional weeks from the beginning of Asia Pacific server migrations. Thank you for your patience during this transition.

I'm actually curious as to who this is. But great news nonetheless. Still suprised that this wasn't originally considered the first time but great news. I'll happily take 2 weeks with a ping to California to keep a local shard.

I would expect then to have oceania (cali) and oceania test(new server) running for at least a week once its set up to make sure it works

Actually come to think of it i cant see why they cant have the oceania server where it is and run the other one as an internal test shard and then make it a public test shard before swapping it over

They probably are running Oceania where it currently is on a short-term contract, after non-renewal of the original hosting site. They probably have to have it off the current temporary host by the end of the month.

Great news and I appreciate the detailed communication on the plan. I don't live anywhere near Australia, but I am glad EA was able to find a means to keep Oceania local.

Because they are shutting down that facility completely. This was explained on the Oceania boards. So we do not currently have a home for UO in Australia as of today.

We are basically testing the "rented rack space" now (backup processes, EA/Mythic to Aussie communication ... you get the idea) before we can totally commit to the new hardware in the new managed space.

Also, the guys doing the final testing are stuck for the next week in a very small cage in Tokyo migrating Japan. I would send pics but they are rather sensitive about that sort of thing ...

Folks,

wanted to make certain you knew we are still working on the local shard for you.
The vendor has been identified. We have the hardware and are configuring it.

Our target is late this week or by middle of next week.

Apologies for the delays. It's tough working ultra-remotely.

Why would you quote a post (aussie shard) from a different thread that has no relevance (west coast/asia shards) to the topic in this thread?

.... seriously.
check dates ... final clue :gee:

It's "Asia and Pacific" Shards, as in those in East Asia & the western Pacific (catering to players in Australia & New Zealand).

"West Coast Shards" are CALLED "West Coast" or "Western US" shards.

The Dev had two sets of data in the original post - For the Asian shards, and for Oceania. ASIA and PACIFIC. No mention of the west coast shards, outside the temporary hosting location for Oceania.
