As much as we enjoy supporting UO and especially our devs during HoC chats, I think the real credit gets lost that Cal, Mesanna and Derek repeatedly put themselves out there wanting to interact in real time with the community.

It's so easy to come here and bemoan what they can't say or expand on sometimes but I hope that is measured with just as much appreciation of what they are hoping to do for us players.

UO is still my therapy sessions a lot of days to just log in, escape a bit and laugh with friends. That is at the core of it no matter what the next publish is.

My honest opinion is I felt it was very condescending and gave the impression of you'll take what we give you and you'll like it. This came off very poorly.

I like the fact the they do try hard to communicate with us, but I really wish they'd return the the "Five on Friday" format which I found more informative because it was completely absent of the laughter, "...should we talk about this.." sidebars, etc.

No matter what the age of the players, and the fact that this is a game, we are all serious in our concerns about the game. These live efforts are frustrating in that the only questions asked, and really never answered, don't address many of the concerns that are voiced right here in this forum. Why not comb through here and do a video presentation or post that simply addresses some of these questions.

Faylead Dhreams started a thread to collect possible questions to ask the team, althought not an official list, but that was a good start. I would have rather seen Cal sit there with that list and go through and answer some of those questions. These concerns are too serious for a view HoC when it seems questions catch you off guard and too much time is spent laughing, whispering, and musing over whether to share something with the players. Properly edited, the whole video could have been reduced down to 10 minutes.

I am interested in what happens to Magincia, but I do not care what happens to Magincia. What happens there will not help me place an item in my house without it falling through to the floor beneath. Nor will my symptoms of seeing naked people running around improve.

We actually pulled from that thread and the official announcement thread for the questions you hear them addressing. This was while more questions were being pulled live from the UStream chat.

This is the second live video chat they've done and there are always things to improve as you move forward. You evaluate and do it a little different the next time until you find the groove and what works. It can't be easy answering off the cuff when you have a community who will take those words and nail it to the wall of infinity. What we do know is you can either progress with negativity or in spite of it.

I'd like to see them have the questions beforehand with thier answers prepared when they record the next Video. It would run much smoother and let many more questions be answered in the time given. The questions are given to them as they were in this last video but the replies they give would be prepared.

I would like to see this too but it sort of negates the live interaction aspect of it. Maybe a hybrid of 20 or so prepared questions to bypass repeated questions on the same topic or questions that have been asked and answered already in past dev chats. This would also help with questions that just can't be answered at the time. Then maybe leave the last 15-20 minutes on just UStream questions as follow up to what's been discussed in case something needs more explaining or they misunderstood a player's question.

I'm willing to give up the live interaction aspect of it, if it means we get several minutes less of discussion about whether they can or cannot talk about something, and several minutes more of things they can actually talk about.

I really didn't see any Ustream questions that Stratics posters hadn't already brought up.

There are bound to be unique questions in UStream based on the information Cal et al share with us in the dev chat even if it's just asking for clarification on something.

One of the things that was good with the Stratics HoC in irc is it allowed them to talk amongst themselves first over questions Zephenia would pull from irc. It's challenge was 'dead air' sometimes while we waited for the answers or asking for more questions from players. When you have a camera on you and faced with a topic you're not sure is ready to give a definitive answer to then that becomes a new challenge.

The live video attempts were good in that they allowed us to see that they are real people. That make a big difference.

The problem is that a live Q&A when there a hundreds of questions, of which only a few can be answered, makes time very precious. To this end, too much time gets wasted conversing among themselves regarding whether to let players know something, and the "appearance" of unpreparedness when most of the questions being asked were nothing new. I rather that they are given the questions in advance so that true answers can be given to those they can answer. As for questions they can not answer for whatever reason, maybe they can summarize them at the end and say that they can not answer them at the time.

Definitely. I would rather have them see the questions up front and just get a short 3-second "we can't talk about that" when the questions are asked on camera, than 30 seconds of them whispering behind hands or exchanging glances.

I posted this in another thread of the HOC vid, but feel it's also relative here:

One needs to understand that when you are management, there will be decisions made that 'all the people' will not agree with, nonetheless, follow through is essential for the growth of the business, no matter what that business is. This being said, I feel the repoire between the three were positive, they didn't give me the feel they were not on the same page. They gave the impression that some decisions were made and they were not prepared to share with the public at this time. This is not necessarily indecisiveness, but on their list of what is in the works. They gave the impression they have alot on their plate that although concrete decisions have not been made, they seem to make it a priority, hence the remarks that they take to heart of what players are voicing, which I feel Cal and team will take into consideration of integrating what may or may not come to the player base in the future. They are listening. Do they have to share everything with us? No, nor is it feasible in reality. Would it be nice? Yes. As management, you learn it may not be in the best interest to alert others to what is on the plate/in the works for the process could cause un-needed distress that in the end may have nothing to do with the final outcome.

Gm's are not their department.....whose is responsible for them?

I would of thought gms would be closley connected with devs. Or is that too logical

Shelra, this is a good point. However, my posts concern the actual management of time during the Q&A. It is certainly common sense that they can't or shouldn't share everything with us. It's just that too much time is spent laughing, whispering, dragging out asnwers, turning off the mike, etc. that could have been used answering other questions. All of this is expected when you do Q&A live, which is why suggestions are being made on how to management that wasted time.

Thank you Unified. I focused on the spoken word and meanings, although this was not done in a professional manner (I won't pick out every nuance of it; quite obvious there was no rehearsal, too much bantering, clothing very casual, albeit, her boots are very much of the biker's realm to which one may conceive them to be hot! ;p) - Perhaps this to be a first attempt of a directoral debut? I shall defer to your subject matter just for this moment and totally agree, although it can also be seen as charming, endearing - human. Two sides to every coin. However, I stand, still, with my first/main comment.

Guys u got to realize this is new process witht he video chat and when ever your put in the spot light or on the spot with questions u got to expect some akwardness till they get use to being in the lime light. Like the old saying goes everything gets better with age at least u can see they are trying.

I found the videos very entertaining, good work cal & team & stratics. They brought some smiles onto my face. Sure they could have prepared some answers for questions that were publically visible on stratics but then it wouldn't be "live" anymore. Bring back FoF if you want lists of answered questions but keep the video entertaining.

@ Cal: Coke is bad! Drink beer instead. ;)

My guess, and I don't like this one bit, is that whatever EA division UO is in these days splits functions. The UO team we know crates content, another team handles customer service for all of the games under that division.

This is an insane setup. But that is EA for you. (Assuming I'm right, but it fits what they have said.)

That was a shocker for me too, but if you think about it... consider the people who clean the toilets, They aren't in that dept. either. Doesn't mean they can't interact, just someone else is in charge of that group, same as the GM's (probably just one of the several customer service groups. If you're supporting dozens of games, it stands to reason that a Game "Master" would not be well acquainted with all games to our satisfaction. It's an incentive to become good in all, to become a senior GM

I do believe I know who recorded this, if it's the same great lady who records videos of in-game events (her footage of my event was used in the "dev diary" video), and she's one of the unsung heroes of UO, and of Stratics.

Am I wrong for thinking that their answer to when they are going to do something about the Griefing at EM events is BS?

They could do something. They could actually BAN those who are Griefing. Telestorm them, put them in Jail, Squelch them. After awhile folk WILL get the idea that that sort of behavior is NOT acceptable or Tolerated. But allowing them to continually grief the events sends only one message. And that message is that you don't care about your player base. Because if you REALLY did you wouldn't allow that kind of thing to take place. Other games do NOT tolerate that sort of behavior and I'm willing to bet that it's not tolerated on the Japanese shards either.

Seriously the only reason it goes on is because it's ALLOWED to continue. They know you won't do anything so they continually drive those who actually give a Damn about the events AWAY.

And saying you can't change human behavior is Bull****. You can. That's what the police are for... that's why you have law enforcement because without something to back up your laws they will constantly be tested and broken. Could you imagine what things would be like in the world without order, laws and law enforcement? Think about it. So to say you can't change human behavior is dead WRONG.

Just saying.

I agree. It's yet another example of how the big corporate structure doesn't quite understand MMORPGs.

i thought it was good to see and hear their excitment about what they were doing and what they are going to be attempting to do. Coming out of watching the videos my concerns and disappointment was GMs and Bug fixes. Hearing that Gms were not under their control or associated with them leads me to believe they are thrid party outsourced which we all know is not condusive to quality regardless of the product. Hearing that Bug fixes are in the queue and will be addressed when time permits is very distressing for a game the relys on its current user base i would think that fixing bugs that directly impact the players should be a high priority. I believe resources should be divided as follows 50% dev 30% bug fixes 20% gms ---- i would even be willing to not put any resources into gm and direct those resources to bug fixes. We as players have grown accustom to the lack of Gm support and to some extend helping each other with issues either in game or on the boards is our only real sense of community. I look forward to seeing what happens, it has been a long 13 years and what comes next should be good
