I'm glad they did something for valentine's... and I'm glad people so far are happy with it...but...
It looks like a panda... as an rper whose decor I try to keep as in-game as possible.... stuff that isn't in-game or is an ooc reference drives me nuts. I would much rather EA create their own holidays and base their gifts off of those traditions rather than RL. I don't see it happening as it would take a lot of effort/time and at this point in the game, those two things are better spent on other projects. I can dream though..
I'll probably keep my main character's in a chest with some of her named holiday stuff, but I don't think I'll be going out of my way to claim the rest.

Well since there are no pandas in UO.. in character it could be tons of different things. Treat it as a way to flex those creative muscles. You don't HAVE to relate the item to a rl holiday in game ya know?
Absolutely, I have done it for some items like the Anniversary UO Luck Statue, but it is something that bugs me. When I see it even if IC I was to make up the idea that it is a rare black bear with a white face, I know its a panda. I'm really glad they took the time to give something, I just wish more of the gifts/holiday were UO-history based instead of RL.

By the way, do I understand it as right that for this particular Holiday the gift must be claimed by some day in March or it will be lost ?
I am asking, because the previous holiday tickets worked that once the ticket was received then there was no deadline to claim the gift.

Log in by that time to get it.
Nothing at all is different, you're confusing two things, again...
Gift items - including the tickets - have always needed you to log in within a certain time period to GET them. If they were 'items' like cards or such, you logged in, got them, and they remain items forever. If they were tickets, then once you HAD the ticket, they have remained useable for ever. In order to actually get anything there's always been a 'time window'...

Since pandas have black and white fur.. and this bear is just white... say it's a polar bear?
hehe I wasn't going to say anything about the perspective ;P I think the polar bears look a bit more off though than the pandas ... and I haven't seen the brown yet, hm...
I have 18 characters on Origin and none of them got a brown one. I got 6 pandas and 12 polar.

Container says 1 item, 3 stones total weight but when I click to open it, nothing inside. tried 4 chars and two diff accounts. I querried in General Chat if anyone else had similar problem, but since the Big O is the Shard of the Dead no one answered... Oooooooooo The way I read it, is that contrary to previous Holidays this time we had to log in to get the ticket and select the gift (by double clicking the ticket) by some day in March while on other Holidays we only needed to log in to get the ticket but we did not also have to pick our choice of a gift by double clicking the ticket. That option could be left, indefinitively, to a later date of our best choice.
So, for the Valentine 2011, we will need to log in, get the ticket AND also double click the ticket before some day in March not to loose our gift ?
That's what I felt as different to previous Holidays, the fact that not just the ticket had to be picked by logging in, but ALSO the selection of the gift would need to be done before the expiring March deadline.

Valentine's gifts have, as far as I can remember, never been distributed as tickets, but even if that's wrong there is NO ticket mentioned for this year..... UOHerald does not mention any ticket, none of the posters have mentioned any tickets other than to explain to you that there is always a time limit to collect anything, including tickets but if a ticket is given out it never expires and can be used at any time in the future. This Valentines, there is NO ticket.
As far as I can see you have made up some bizarre interpretation of what could possibly have happened, and then complained about it as if it was reality. Clearly 'the way you read it' bears no resemblance to what is written.

Not on GL recently it didn't....Turnout was good, and only grew as the procession proceeded. Lava has a story about it if you want some pictures.
We had this one on GL too; again good turnout.

I heard someone else having this same problem. Maybe it's the rare gift, that was just rushed into the patch or something.Same thing here

I don't mind ... although I edited what I was saying just as you were quoting it, to try make it completely 'idiot proof', but as they say, there's always a better idiot coming along no matter how hard you try proof stuff against them
I've only seen that for folks who had not got the patch yet, or if it had not installed properly on their system. May be worth then checking that it installed cleanly, sometimes it's possible to miss the 'error' message if you are keen to log in.

Galen, that was confusing but those comments were from the very first events way back when. If memory serves, the writer played on one of the "big 3", the original 3 shards that included Atl, Pac, and our own GL.
But I could be wrong, as a few more shards were added by then.

Aye, people like them.. But.. uhm.. why is their perspective wrong? They all 'tilt' to far to the NW, makes them look about ready to fall over.

Brialla's Journey did indeed have a good turnout on Great Lakes. The amazing EMs we have and the great people on GL made it history once again.

ok i logged in and saw them. they are cute graphics. but ill probably throw all but 1 of mine away.
i dont need 20 different bears with 20 of my characters names. how egomaniac am i that i would need one for every character. look at me, i'm speeeshal!
i dont need to type 3 lines to myself: brown bear valentine, so fuzzy and soft, hides in a box.
i wish they would give us useful stuff. or at least fun stuff. like all those chocolates from last year, i still have a dozen of those boxes, each filled with chocolates that do nothing. why? the only rare thing is the angel box. wouldn't it be cool if eating a chocolate turned you into something random for 5 min? or were a buff of some sort? you'd actually eat the chocolates instead of just letting them sit around until you threw them out.
sorry, i know you all love da bears, but to me they have no function so they just take up space. but i think they're great... for me to poop on!
im not baggin on them at all, yeah its free and if i dont like them i can throw them out. im just a "form over function" guy. i would rather have something with a purpose. like on vet rewards, i would take a soul stone, or a dye tub, or an ethy over some statuet because the statue does nothing. and the other items have useful purposes.
