A Block-Buster Idea: Encrusted Item

Lets see if I can do this without over writing.

An item can show up anywhere loot is spawned. It is called "an encrusted item".

You can find it on any monsters, treasure chest, or lock pick chests.
You can find it on sale on NPC's... any off them.
You can find them washed up on shore, or in the woods.
You can find it fishing for SOS's or hunting TMAPs.

They are random, the more you battle monsters, the more you increase your chance to get one. Then when you get one it resets.

Alchemist must make solutions to remove the crustiness and show you your prize.

An NPC can examine the encrusted item for a fee of 20k and tell you what level it is.

There are 5 levels. These levels can be 1 of any item every created for an EM event, any arty, any spawning reward.

The Devs will not tell us what each level holds.

They are just nuggets of game play.

They WONT come from mining or lumber jacking or straight fishing. Limit autoboting for the stuff.

The idea is it is a huge realm and who are we to say who finds what where.

I like the concept. I would like to point out that this could also be used to add more use to Item ID.

BOTing occurs in all forms in this game. There are Doom bots, quest bots, resource gathering bots, bod bots, you name it.

So what have you got against miners, lumberjacks and fishermen?

Fun stuff!
And your name IRON WORKs made me think that a quality extracting tub with 1 use must be crafted by a smith.

See its a win win win. Smiths invovled, alchemists involved... I think tailors need to make a specialized buffing cloth.

nada.
easier to bot standing in the ocean.

At least make the botters work.
Though my TRUE SOLUTION IS THIS...

You acquire an encrusted item. THEN A BOX POPS up

To move this to your pack you must recite the numbers on it or word. It is magically bound to the ground.

YOU GET A BOX WITH THE DISTORTED NUMBERs only a human can read.

You enter the numbers and it goes into your pack.
No human... no stinking encrusted item.

You get the point.

Interesting idea, have it pop up with some Medieval captcha?

Just add them as a .5% chance on all loot tables, with the level set according to the level of the loot.

Allow resource gatherers to get them too, but only up to level 2 except in dungeons (level 3 or 4.)

I would say you can buy the level identification for 1K or use GM item ID. Level also determines chance for solution to ruin the item(s). Item ID also tells you (and locks) the number of items contained -- otherwise it's random when you clean it.

It would be an alchemist solution, but require deadly poison and conflagration potions to make, and a special container. 50% chance to clean level 1, down to 40% at level 5 (and less 5% for each level above 5). Upon failure to clean there is a 25% chance to ruin item. GM Alchemy drops the ruin chance by 10%. GM Poisoning drops the ruin by another 10%.

You can have an NPC clean the item, but it costs 5K per level with a 60% chance to clean and a 50% chance of ruin.

Once item is cleaned, you get from 1 to 5 items out of the encrusting, with each successive item more of a chance to be junk, the first item always guaranteed to come from the level of the encrusted item.

Effectively they become another type of lottery ticket.

This is just taking the game farther into kiddie prize land. I want a reversal of course, not to add more to it.

That's *potentially* the best idea I've heard in a very long time. It would be irritating as hell, but it would probably be the only very effective way to deal with automation.

Honestly I think they just need to make certain game functions require less repetitive key strokes ( They've already done this through the years with crafting tools). UO has always been a repetitive strain injury inducing game.

Ding Dong. We are there. This isnt instant. Comes with game play.

But in the end. Id rather have better reasons to explore. There aren't any.

That would be perfect for stuff laying around. I just don't want it to be rinse and repeat chain quests. You find the encrusted item. You do what you want with it.

Look we are drooling over valentines gifts. Argh. Thats kiddy land to me, as you say.

Maybe have 50-50 chance of open gift and getting killed and losing 10% of stats till you rebuild them. Now thats risks.

It's the "encrusted" idea that I don't like. It's too much like opening presents. I'm all for having random drops to get people out there again, and I've been saying for a long time that the static drops is bad for the game in several ways.

Allowing players to hunt and dungeon crawl at their places of choice would be great, add in some random spawns and you make scripting harder to do.
