Hmmmm. no news. but then again, my accounts are closed, I'm playing elsewhere and if it finally comes to pass there is ANYTHING of import from Cal and the crew, I will rejoice and partake of viewing it or reading it (whichever form it may be).

I await certain things to be mentioned and we shall see about account reactivation should it be a "good thing" to do. Until then I prowl other places and learn of many things not UO.

Why should this be locked? I asked a legitimate question that deserves an answer. If this thread gets locked, another one will inevitably get created. Don't blame the posters for something that the devs could easily address.

And a video is important because why?

Lets see.

blah we are working on. Blah blah. Will be great. Blah blah blah.

WHEN it is done 50% will say it sucks. 50% will love it. And someone will complain they are nerfing their bread and butter.

I will read between the lines and scarfy up the stygian dragon heads. HINT. And go back to building my vendor mall.

Hence why I had 'James,' indicating the unknown nature of the true poster. However, like most corporate structures, sharing passwords is against IT policies (regardless of how inconsequential the protected system is..)

As for these threads continuously popping up, I counter with: Why does Mythic continue to be indifferent to the concerns of its subscribers and wantonly flout any deadlines/due dates they set for themselves without any notice/apology? That’s wholly unacceptable in the corporate world.

It is quite obvious that mythic is overloaded.... the ultima online side of things have been side tracked or sure with the release from bioware stating they have pulled the team to start working on the web based (not lord of ultima garbage) ultima rpg.. as stated back in oct ( here Half-cocked rant lets Ultima project details slip | Ultima Aiera )

What is telling about this is that NO developer has touched this with a 10 foot pole.

It makes me fondly recall:

The Friday they thought they turned on the last stage of the old Magincia invasion... and they didn't. And were unaware of this until the following Tuesday even though the boards were full of 'WTF' threads relating to it.

When Cal 'forgot' announcing UO's 13th birthday on here. And then stating he 'forgot' (days later), but gladly accepted an award for the longevity of said game.

When our own Community Manager Jeremy did not know the difference between the Spirit of the Totem and the Totem of the Void, even though at the time pretty much (guesstimate here) 90% of people used the Void totem.

Cal not knowing what a Sampire was... you know, what is arguably one of the most used templates in the game.

The team has their fingers in many places. Too bad none of those fingers are on UO, and instead being used to wave one single middle finger at the playerbase.

Yeah, it's going to suck when the WAR players are shown a video saying they are going to xxxx whatever that people don't like, and we all go...

And yet so many people keep their accounts open despite this, they mistreat you guys and girls because they know you aren't going anywhere, if you were going somewhere you would have by now.

Think about all the vets for example that kept their accounts open after trammel, still paying for the game they claimed to hate in hopes of a classic option that is clearly never going to happen.

I kept my hope for a classic option as well, but I did so without keeping my accounts open, the only slip up I had was during SoTD because I wanted to check it out, I paid for one month and that was it.

So basically stop voicing complaints to people who clearly don't care about you, and start voicing it with your wallet. Let these chumps know you demand a higher standard of service the hard way.

Maybe people are tired of sub par services now days. Companies across the world have gone belly up for performing these same type of low standard services.

One of my jobs ( I also required a business venture this past summer with 2 business partners) is a postion in the family business is pretty easy. Doesn't requre much work besides the financials and dealing with the IRS. Only time I am at a job site if one of my employees have done something they shouldn't. Im judge and jury when I get a complaint from a client or a city/state/federal inspector. If my employees do something they shouldn't be doing. 99.9% of the time I fire that employee if I have to make a trip to a job site. I dont like to leave home and go to some state when my employees know the rules and how to conduct themselves on a job site of a client. It costs us good money alone to have these employees trained dealing with our equipment.

Besides Osha rules and regulations, local city regulations, state regulations, and federal regulations my employees should know how to act and perform their jobs. Their actions reflect upon us as a business. In todays world and economy one bad job can ruin a company. I enforce our company rules and regulations. One bad employee can costs jobs to my other good employees. I do worry when I have good employees that are trying to feed their families and pay bills it is my job to ensure they still have stable work in a bad economy.

I expect the best out of our employees and want happy clients. When I get a complaint I take care of it asap. I keep in communciation with the person who made the complaint to let them know how the situation was handled and delt with. Their satisfaction with the job is what pays the bills. Unhappy clients will close a business faster than happy clients trying to keep you afloat and grow.

Have we ever had a client get some free extra work or price re-adjusted for mistakes of employees? Yes we have because thats how we do business.

So I would expect any paying customer to Bio-Mythic and EA should expect some type of professionalism. The online players pays the bills of their online gaming division. Not half ass whatever you want to call it ( I dont want to even use the word professionalism because the lack of it).

See, while I completely agree with this, I actually want to continue playing UO. If enough of us did this, especially those holding multiple accounts, eventually UO would cease to be profitable and it would go bye-bye.

I think that enough of us don't want that to happen. It’s a catch 22. Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Did so just over a year ago now.

Yes, I'm one of those hoping for a "classic" option, but that ultimately wasn't why I cancelled my account.

Unfinished "beta" client, so many bugs, even the bugs have bugs. Inept customer service and support... in short, a game that although still can be fun, is full of too many frustrations to be worth the subscription.

I would still play the current game if it was worth it. It's just the game is so fundamentally broken, why should I pay towards something, for nothing tangible in return? Quite literally, all that kept me playing as long as I did, was other players I had fun with.

If/when the current game is more polished/finished, customer support actually "supports", or some form of classic option is available (two out of those three will do!), then I'll consider it worth returning.

So when it comes to the "State of the Game" video, I don't need to know the current state of the game - I already know how poor it is. I want to know what the future is and to be convinced enough that I'd part with my subscription money once more.

Perhaps then players with multiple accounts should shut down 1/2 their accounts for 2 months. Your houses wouldn't fall and they'd be out revenue. If nothing else, a definite message is sent.

I think it's more important to be realistic about the situation, what is more likely that you keep paying into a system that is screwing you over, or that the devs suddenly wake up for no apparent reason and start listening to customers they have been neglecting for a long time?

The holding onto hope approach while paying, does not work, it is a terrible way of approaching these kinds of issues because they don't care what you say if the money is still coming in month after month.

I know a lot of you don't want the game to die, but in a sense, if it isn't the game you want, then it already has died. I just don't see it being turned around.

For me it's this simple, I don't mind paying money for a quality product or service, but when that product or service drops in quality, I will not give my money to that company, money is the only language most people care about these days.

The problem is, no matter how big a fan I am of the game, or indeed that I do want to see it stay alive, I reached a point where I decided it just wasn't worth the money.

Sure, I could have kept the subscriptions going and simply let the accounts sit idle and unplayed. It's not like I can't afford the subscriptions, but why give someone money for nothing? EA Games/BiowareMythic aren't a registered charity last I heard.

They're supposed to be a professional business, offering value for money, offering customer support and satisfaction. The fact that during my online travels looking at free UO servers, low budget games by tiny developers, offering much more attentive care and regard for those playing their game, is more damning than anything I can think of.

Sadly, voting with my wallet was the last resort.

And a video is important because why?
If your question was sincere, which given the rest of your post I doubt it was, this is my personal answer.

1. They said they'd do one, and it usually bothers me when they don't do what they say they will.

2. I would like some idea of what's going on with the game in broad terms. They chose to make it a video rather than a piece of writing. Personally I'd have preferred the piece of writing but they chose to promise a video.

Having said that, I think we may need to deal with the fact that we may never see the video. If they did suddenly release it, which I doubt they will, then how can it possibly live up to all this anticipation? It can't, almost no matter what they say. The issue's dead either way.

*shrugs*

As to voting with my wallet and canceling the accounts? This seems very self-defeating. I subscribe to the game to play it, and obviously I like playing it or I wouldn't, so why would I stop playing it because the developers didn't fulfill a promise to make a video about it? Or they did release a video and it sucked?

At this point, the video and the fact that they refuse to finish/release it is more symbolic than anything.

Personally, if I wasn't getting some level of entertainment/enjoyment out of UO - even in its present condition - I would have packed up long ago.

While I detest the level of Customer (Dis)Service, communication, apathy and general disrespect that p(l)ayers are shown on a continual basis; that honestly doesn't directly affect what I get out of the actual game experience itself. Now, I readily admit, that’s a fine-line distinction to make, and is completely my choice.

I have considered playing house roulette with a few of my accounts, and even closing two that I barely even use. However, I am leery of the rotating account/house game due to a few people I know losing their house that way. I still actively play multiple characters/accounts, so my desire to "stick it to the man" as it were and cancel them isn't all that high.

I’d like to see UO continue, preferably with someone at the helm who visibly cares about the subscribers and knows how to communicate appropriately. At this juncture, I am unconvinced that person is, or ever could be, Cal.

Because we were promised a decision on the classic shard debate by the end of 2010, which came and went, followed by an update that they wanted to explain their decision in detail as part of a "State of the Game" video. That video was expected in January, then promised to be made available last week, which once again came and went. The video is important because I want to hear that decision. None of us asked for a video, but EA made the video important to many of us by wrapping the classic shard decision into it.

Well for me the Kool-aid was getting flat,
I closed out all my accounts and then reopened my original account it will stay open till they close the game but they will no longer recieve any more money than that.
I have been here for a long time that should be of some comfort to EA or whoever I dont really know who supports UO now to know that they do have a loyal playerbase

Of course it's an individual choice when it comes to spending money, it's just a question of what kind of personal standard you keep for yourself. I closed my accounts long ago for different reasons, and I have personally never regretted the decision.

But if these issues don't bother you that much then good for you, I'm mostly talking to people who are fed up yet continue to pay.

Oh, believe me, I am fed up - but I still like UO itself, still enjoy playing. Just check my post history, when Mythic does something patently stupid, releases a half-assed shoddy patch/booster, doesn't pay a lick of attention to their beta testers, etc, I happily take them task for it.

The people continue to subscribe because they enjoy the game and are able to separate the abysmal CS/communication from what they take away from playing. Would simply canceling our accounts send a clear message to EA? Hell yes! Would it kill the game and defeat the ultimate purpose? Hell yes! Hence the catch 22.

To take the immediate concerns of the p(l)ayer base, communicate that this needs to be addressed ASAP, and then post something to the effect of:

"We understand your concerns and are trying to work quickly to that end. Sorry for the delay, we anticipate releasing the video on X date."

Yes, I think he's completely capable. Can he do it of his own accord? Probably not, which is a bit sad, considering something that simple would end all this upheaval. It’s the fact that it hasn't been done, by anyone at Mythic, that is irritating everyone to no end.

Ya know. In real life I am a boss. I have crew that answers to me. There are things I pay them to do, and things they are not allowed to do.

I also have a boss. I answer to him and carry out his directions.

He has a boss too. So on and so forth.

My staff is fully empowered to do the things with in their scope of responsibilities, as am I. So on and so forth.

Brow beating my sauté chef about the menu choices is not a productive use of time. If you want a menu change go to the top.

I defend the team where it's appropriate, to the point that I'm accused of loving everything they do. I have repeatedly talked about the positive signs, I've praised the server upgrades, etc.

But you know what? Any ire they incur over this video is, primarily, their own fault.

Right, as a customer I'd go to the Maître d’. It is that position’s responsibility to ensure the guest has an enjoyable meal and to ultimately convey messages to the chefs.

James’ position is as the new community manager/representative du jour. Hmm… What possibly could that job entail? Communicating between Mythic and the p(l)ayers perhaps? Trying to calm their fears and insecurities when things go awry?

Or do you believe his job is only to post server upgrades/outages and never to actually address p(l)ayer issues?

Stop being an apologist.
