Hey all,
These hardware updates are the same as the ones we've been deploying world wide. It just helps to alleviate maintenance times to schedule them during windows where no other maintenance is occurring so we can get them done as quickly as possible.

We know they're the same series of 'upgrades' James - we're just unclear why it's been necessary, especially since this improved stability they were offering was promptly followed by Atlantic repeatedly crashing, and Legends falling over once as well, so far. Not to mention Oceania wandering ....
Not to forget the severe lag spikes that has occurred since the upgrades. Go to recall, sacred journey, gate on Napa & you can wait up to 30 seconds at times... There is so much intermittent lag spikes to players from ALL OVER the US (Not just in 1 area) it's pathetic. 
Don't forget to update Herald this time. 
Well, it seems that we have a server problem since the update, but only on Drachenfels.
We have no Valentine's Bears (as it should be as of today after server-up), and plants didn't had their growth check since then... and Gypsy tents are also spawning as before!
Please, can you let us know what happend to our shard? (or didn't, in this case *grins*...)

I think we did not get any update. Not even sure if the shard been down today at all. My aquariums did not go to the next cycle.

Confirmed. No bears on Drachenfels.
The hardware upgrade is actually performing the calibration and alignment for the 1541 disk drives.
That and they are upgrading to 2400 baud modems.

It means he's very, very old - and I must be too since I know what he's referring to.
I have a horrible suspicion the hardware he's referring to is older than many of the current UO playerbase, and I used to use it when it was 'cutting edge' stuff
