State of the Game video/answer to classic shard.

Without a lot of drama, can someone please tell me the latest update? Did the video come out and i missed it or did they set a new time table? I haven't checked back in a while. I also did not see anything in the recent posts. All i see is Cal's locked thread about the classic shard video above but nothing else.

Cal's working on it. Cal was wounded in the process of filming, and the release of the video will be dependent on his survival, and recovery speed.

(It will hopefully be out this week.)

He's actually not kidding. During filming, Cal jumped up into the air and came down on a foot that had been injured previously. They put the footage on Facebook.

I should also specify that I, for one, don't have the impression that the answer on a custom rules set shard would be in the upcoming video.

If they said such an answer would be in it, I missed that.

I don't have the quote, but Cal stated exactly that. He said that they wouldn't have a classic shard answer by the end of the year (last year), but they were planning a state of the game video that would explain their decision and what went into it. I am fully expecting a definitive answer one way or another.

You guys didn't read the quote corretly, he had stated we would have an answer before the years end. So I am taking this to mean we should have an answer sometime before Dec 2012 or so.

I do really wish that, given all that is not working properly in this game, and the seriousness of player concerns, that they would at least appear to be more serious in their communications with players. All of this laughing and silliness portrays otherwise.

While we all know that this is a game that we play, we do so as a matter of serious effort despite things needing fixed and addressed, and some of us pay serious money for the privilege. This is a much-anticipated video that is supposed to answer some serious concerns of serious players. Even if it will be news that we would rather not hear, can they please be serious about it?

I'd make a cool in-game video myself (along the way, cause I have a stressful full time job) if UO was in a state that would be worth advertising. But UO today will not be able to attract new players, and as long as this doesn't change, every marketing effort seems to be a waste of time.

really? i used to be hardcore into pvp before aos, after aos, even after samurai empire, but once spellweaving came out i started disliking it more, and then mysticism and imbuing kind of killed it for me... however since lj is good again im gonna try to get back into it little by little, though i do miss the full loot days of killing someone

That's one of the things that has me filled with hope. Maybe there will be something in this that will make me jump back into regular PVP. If that isn't in there I would like to hopefully get an update on other systems that I use.

I too am awaiting the video. I would love to come back if I heard something I liked. As it is though, I refrain from opening my account again. Another deadline will be missed. Now even if the answer would be positive to a classic shard (which i absolutely not believe, i think he will explain why they can't make one), there will still be doubt if it will then ever be made and if that is the case, if it will have proper support and resources.

If i was in his position, i would leave the job and start looking for a better one. Making a clown of yourself is never fun.

AoS effectively killed the blacksmith/tailor, unless you spent a lot of time on a randomized system (BoDs). The regular blacksmith/tailor gave way to the mule, only being taken out to perform repairs on armor or weapons. The BoD system, meant to be optional, became a necessity whether you liked it or not. Fortunately, I enjoyed it enough to mess with it for a while. In the end, however, the itemization became too much for me, so I let my account lapse.

Apart from one return that last a couple of months, I've simply been reading the boards from time to time, watching as more itemization is introduced, making the character I'd want to play even less playable.

I suppose I could always play on Siege, but from what I understand, it's a shell of a server now, so what's the point?

Put out a classic shard and I'll reappear, complete with my monthly payment. I'm sure that my money alone isn't enough to get the ball rolling, but I'm also sure that I'm not the only one that feels this way.

My guess:

The update will fix a small part of a system that has been broken/forgotten for a long time, but leave the rest broken.

Nerf a small aspect of PvP, making the overpowered part more overpowered

Revamp part of PvP that once again nerfs PvM

Cause at least 2 new exploits that won't be fixed for a few months.

Re-break a recently fixed system or two in a new way

Why would he leave? I assume he makes a decent salary and based on the lack of communication here, and the glacial pace of anything getting done in or out of the game, he does nothing all day long!

I hope this video has a mention of booster 2. High Seas left me hanging. Not real impressed with that expansion. One of the reasons that I have stayed with UO for as long as I have is that there is more than one thing in game to do though. Maybe it is a new group of people I found or the changes I have made to my play style. I personally am having a blast with it.

I would like to see something done with the faction revamp or an announcement on the classic shard.

I'll admit, I am the first donkey to run for the carrot.

leaves SOME optimistic sliver of "hope", that something of value May fallout/be produced By the release Of the video.

That slim sliver of "hope" is of the nature of:

could happen, but the chance of said squirrel being nourished sufficiently, to Find another
BEFORE starvation or likely predation ...

The fact they are disappointing their...fans...us... is definitely the most damaging aspect of this entire video debacle.

Cal wanted to do a video so we couldn't take his words out of context so easily. Instead, he's flat lined the p(l)ayer base's goodwill toward Mythic by not only stringing the Classic Sharders aglong, but the rest of us too.

This video had better be fracking fantastic... Outlaying a plan to revitalize the game with a path to a glorious future.

Anything else...and...well...god(s) help them.

But yes it's disappointing not to have anything.... though I'm sure whatever is said will not be what 80% of the folk want to hear.... But then I think the best thing to say is you can please some of the people all of the time but not all of the people all of the time.
