Technically, 2011's Spring will not start until March 20th. :p

However, I'm tired of the snow in UO... It should have been turned off with the last publish.

Lots of snow here, still january big snow storm on the way too...
Hehe... You're not that far from me actually! But yeah... even though there's still a long time 'til spring, they need to turn off the snow in-game. Makes my T-hunting rather difficult :(

I am hating the in game snow it causes rubber banding that is not there when snow is not present, I personally feel that the snow is idiotic and it sucks for its implementation on blocking and rubber banding.

I have never noticed any rubber-banding from the snow... but in the enhanced client, having the map show party members with a small white "x" is really worthless against a white background...

Maybe a red "x" or something that would stand out a little more would work.

I have no problem with the snow... infact I kinda like it... it's a nice change of pace. I'd like it even more if the trees were barren and the evergreens had snow on them but I'm guessing I expect too much or something. *frowns* Infact what I would REALLY like would be if the game followed it's timeline and did one RL week of winter, one week of spring, one week of Summer and a Week of fall give or take a day here and there.

And if we could have spring and fall as well. Wouldn't it be awesome to have the tree's turn beautiful fall colors?

But like I said perhaps I just expect too much.

Hah! I'm not going any further than *my* driveway :D

I may be close, but that's still a 20 minute drive I'm not willing to make in a snowstorm :)

Here in the lovely state of Oklahoma its 40o right now with some major nasty-ass winter weather on the way. We are under both a Winter Storm Warning and a Blizzard Warning. Here is our forcast from the weather guy at sux err Fox23...

Monday night and Tuesday...a significant winter storm will affect Green Country. The precipitation will likely start Monday night as rain, which will quickly transition to freezing rain and sleet, then change to snow. Potential does exist for a record breaking snowfall for parts of Green Country. Amounts could range between 9"-12" along the I-44 corridor. A few isolated areas may exceed a foot of snow! Lesser amounts are expected of southeast portions of Green Country, but accumulations of snow could still be heavy. It'll also turn windy, with near-blizzard conditions for brief periods.

After the storm exits, BITTERLY COLD ARCTIC AIR will move in! Temperatures will drop into the single digits Wednesday morning and may fall below zero Thursday morning! Highs in the teens can be expected Wednesday and Thursday as well. Temperatures will slowly recover into the weekend, but it will remain chilly.
I think that confirms its still winter here. I been going since 8am this morning, had to buy horse feed and peoples feed. Now, I gotta go throw hay ....Ah, the rural life don't cha just love it!!!

We don't know yet if winters over!

Got to wait on that groundhog.

I think we need to abandon defending against The invasion, let all the monsters be, stop fishing, ban together and go find this critter and cover him up with Greater Dragon wings.

That way no shadow!------------>Then it's Spring!

The snow is a nice touch, but I personally think it looks terrible in the classic client. Some of the tiles just don't flow together very well.

Remember, folks, Ivory is from Italy, IIRC, and there between the Med and the Adriatic, winter's pretty much over (the same can't be said for up in the Tyrol region). She probably has no experience with the winter we know (the same holds true for the Aussies (though offset 6 months, their climate is like the Med, unless you're down in Tasmania) and most of the Asians outside Korea or Hokkaido).

However, most of us using Stratics are in North America or northern Europe. We typically get our coldest temps in January, but the worst snow falls in February and March (here in KY, nearly all of our record snowfalls are in March, including a two-foot monster in the mid-90s that took almost to Easter to get fully cleared, and I lived two blocks from downtown at the time!). This is because the temps are starting to warm up, and allow moisture to get pumped into the storms from the Gulf of Mexico (a similar effect occurs in Europe, from what I understand, but from the Atlantic). January snows like the ones we have had this year are an anomaly (hit about every 33 years).

Granted, we're probably tired of looking at real snow this year, but the snow is not all that big a deal. Maybe after Valentine's day...

I fiind it irritating as well. makes the tiny CC map pretty worthless when outside. It's a nice touch in small doses, but kinda old now. No slick spots, no drifts to slow us down?(like sand)
I'm ready for it to be spring again ( in-game)

Hey guys, this is a GAME!!!!
There someone that loves snow, someone not. There someone like me that love only a few weeks of snow. But it's not the real life. In this game there are not a summer, a fall, a spring.
Because it is a GAME. It is stupid to say " in my country there is a lot of snow". then also in UO must be a lot o snow. This summer there will be dozens of fruits that ripen on the trees? :danceb:
Well, i've only made a post in a forum where there is a chance to say what you want.
And it seems to me that snow is too much :)

MS Fight Simulator has had configurable weather conditions since at least 1982 (when it was Microprose) . This is the best idea.

ugh, I must be close to you as well. That's what we're headed for on Wed. We've got so much snow in our yard that even the snowblowers are having a hard time getting the snow out of the driveway. So ya, I'd be all for the end of Winter... But I don't care so much about the snow in UO... :)

My god, where did you go to school and who taught you that end of Jan/ beginning of Feb was SPRING? They should be fired... and here I thought American schools were tragic.
Spring begins on 21 of march.
In Italy schools works well.
And they teach education , too....
But in Italy in February are the first sunny days that make you almost believe that they are already in the spring. I'm sorry for you, if you live in a country so sad, especially with schools that don't teach a minimum of education.
E tu a quale scuola sei andato? Non lo conosci l'italiano? Non lo insegnano dalle tue parti?

I would prefer a full-featured Seasons system involving weather phenomena that automatically changed during server-down on the correct IRL days (March 20, June 21, September 23, and December 22 in 2011).

However, there are many things that would need to be conceptually worked out before that could happen. For instance, currently the snow tapers off as you go south to Trinsic and Serpent's Hold, except there's nothing south of those locations, so why is it warmest there? Technically, it should be the warmest around Britain, because that's where the "equator" would be in Britannia.

You could make the argument that Britannia's axis is at a 90º angle to its star, much like Uranus, and that places like Serpent's Hold are always the closest and thus warmest, and places like Minoc are always farthest away, and thus coldest. But then the question would be, why does the snow ever melt? An eccentric orbit, I suppose.

But that doesn't really factor in the fact that Britannia is a torus (donut); when you go west, you come out in the east, and when you go north, you come out in the south. So that would put someplace tropical like Serpent's Hold right next to someplace cold like Ice Isle, meaning that there's no way to have the tropical regions closest to the sun without also having the arctic regions be closest to the sun. And that doesn't work.

Perhaps it would be best to just throw up your hands, yell "It's freakin' magic," and never think about it ever again.

When your first post in this thread is 'Is just spring' then no... obviously you had zero clue when spring was.

I 'almost believe' in magic ponies, btw... it doesn't mean there are really magical ponies. FYI.

I'm just glad that the people of stratics have assisted in your education.

I believe the area of Britannia we know and love was originally designed to be 1/4 of the world in the Northern Hemisphere (I won't get into is it east or west argument). 0,0 occuring is based on LB's throne, not on the physical structure of the world, so the true equator in theory should occur near the southern end of the tropical islands.

Of course considering that the map loops around N/S in addition to E/W, that throws all sorts of wrenches into the reality of it all.

Of course you COULD just say "A wizard did it" which set up a situation that keeps the citizens in Britannia confined physically (non-magically) in the Quardasphere (?) we are currently in with moongate travel the only way to break the confines.

(How's that for some of the top of my head bullsqueeze?)

Assuming that this IS the real thing, you can actually see where they have lined out the tropics, equator, arctic and antarctic lines. If you consider our current map, it follows the arctic and northern tropic lines.

I do not mind UO snow. It is pretty where the tiles at least all fit and so forth.

What I do not like is the UO rain those diagonal dots of blue and white that endlessly *rain* in certain areas of UO for forever. All I think of is the song *who will stop the rain* when I am in said areas of UO. I would love to see UO rain be eliminated for forever in those areas of the game where it is always, raining.

BTW Spring is just a date on the rl calendar, depends in rl where one lives as to when Springtime rl really arrives and what hemisphere we are in too.

When I lived in Wisconsin, my mom would call me from OHIO laughin that their daffodils were blooming in April sometimes as early as March, where in Green Bay Wisconsin where I lived for 12 yrs, the daffodils never bloomed, often till after May Mothers Day or in May around, Memorial Day.

So when we moved SOUTH, I would call her up in OHIO to tell her MY daffodils were bloomin down here on Valentines Day, cuz rl spring begins arriving here usually in Feb. :) I can also tell spring is coming here when the northern birds that over winter here, decide to go home & fly back UP north.

And when them Canadian Geese & etc. come down here TOO early in the fall, I know winter even down here is gonna be CRUEL and winter will arrive earlier than any date, on the calendar proclaiming, it is 'Winter'.

Our temp here went from 59 to 29 degrees in 1 hr. yesterday with high winds & wind chill makin it feel like 10 degrees, due to this mega storm all over the USA, but all we got down here was tons of rain *this time* ! Further south from here they got tornado warnings, with this same storm front.

We did have rl snow 4 times this winter so far though, for down here, it's quite unusual to get 8 inches or more of snow in one snowfall, at all in *winter* down here !

For us here locally March is our most dangerous climatic changes month, followed by Nov. ie tornados, as the cold and hot weather & seasons collide atop our heads.

:) I think they use a possum down here, to predict spring's arrival.

For myself an early March 'tornado siren' blaring, usually in the middle of the night, tells me, springtime is offically here. :(
