Of course it is possible and has already been asked for. What you have to realise is that this is what players actually want so the response has been the usual deathly silence. The fact that is a sensible option cuts no ice at all.
Someone, somewhere, obviously delights in the fact that fishermen sometimes spend hours filling quest boxes and then transport them to a destination to be rewarded with, guess what?. youve got it, another useless book. Aint you the lucky one?.
I am currently suffering from the curse of the King Crab - quest after quest if crabs are required its King crabs - currently I have 7/20 on my latest and have just spent an hour out with the pots - number of King Crabs caught? ZERO. If my reward is ultimately another "$&*()£$%" book my fisherman goes into permanent retirement.

With my newly aquired King Crabs filling the order I set sail for the Floating Emporium. I passed the delivery on to the Fish Monger to obtain my wonderful reward.
Wondering what bait I might have received this time as I have still only ever got a single 105 fishing scroll I looked in my pack and, believe it or not, yet another copy of 'Order of the Dragonfish Handbook Part 4'
If the idea behind this stupid book is to make people heartily sick of fishing boy are they succeeding. More hours spent as a total waste of time.

As stated in the FAQ we're looking into making the books rarer as they currently drop too frequently.
We acknowledge this is an issue - but whether we make the books worth something or simply make it so you receive them less frequently (or any other option) both take development time and thus a change to the system is being scheduled for a future publish.
I hope this clarifies the current status and appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Honestly, the books should have been sold by the fishmongers for like 50-100gp. As a "reward" they are insulting and and only useful once.
A reward needs to be at least somewhat useful to the person recieving it, even if they means they sell them. These books, now that every UO information site has a copy, are pointless.
(Since they aren't even specially colored, ANYONE can copy all the books back into an in game purple book, red leaf it, and have an instant "reward". Yay.)

Thank you for taking the time to post on this thread it is most appreciated. It is always lack of any response that infuriates people. Alright it will take time, but knowing something will eventually happen makes things endurable. If I end up throwing them away sobeit.
Please, rather than simply make them rarer to drop, MAKE THEM WORTH SOMETHING !!!.
Either make them worth points at the Library (of course rarer book drops should be worth a lot more points than commonly dropping books...) or make the fish mongers accept them towards something usefull to fishing.
Like for example, 10-20 books to the fish monger will be possible to be exchanged for some nice fishing pole that adds a bonus to fishing, or some crab/lobster trap that is more resistant to sinking (i.e. can hold more crabs/lobsters....). Whatever can be more usefull to fishing than these useless books.
Why we feel this need ?
Because we have ALREADY gotten a lot of these "rare" useless books and if you NOW make them rarer this won't help all of the effort we ALREADY have done.
Instead, if you make them worth something we will be able to use the books we already received for something good.

I have found the same issue with each fish area. Deep /shallow /dungeon /trapping. Each group has one always requested and others breaking the 300 count. Great system to get players to interact trading. Future fishers with fewer fishing will be hosed I guess. Even now less fishers stocking after have already gotten their 120.
The book needs to be a DC book with a timer. After DCing book, table comes up for picking a named common catch, timer starts. During that set time fish caught of the chosen fish artwork will be the chosen name/type. Crabs or Lobsters of unnamed type will be of the type chosen. Really as often as the books come up who cares if someone can balance their stockage.

Do the books do anything? Are they a special color that looks super cool locked down on a floor? If that's the case don't waste your time "fixing" anything.
Can you hand the books in at the Library Collection? That way,at least they would be worth "something" until the Devs fix the drop rate.

You didn't spell it out! I don't think the fishers at the library accept book do they?

All the library collections accept books, but not that type of book. The book type would need to be changed I think.
"If" the Developers are going to make fish monger books be available as turn ins to the Library (i.e. assign them a value in points...), then by all means the 6 (I am saying 6 because I have been told there are 6 but I never saw a book 6 reported...) "rare" books should NOT be all worth the same amount of points each.
Why ?
Because they have different rarity when turning in fish monger orders.
For example, a player reported as turning in a 6 parts fishing order, having ALL 6 parts requesting dungeon fish (a fishing order that is a very, but very rare drop...) and this gave a Book 5.
Since this order could have well awarded (and it should have, IMHO...) a 120 fishing powerscroll, one can see that this book 5 cannot possibly be worth as Library turn in as a book 1, for example......
These books should also be worth a whole lot of points, way more than the 10 points a regular crab/lobster is worth as library turn in....
I am thinking, as an example, like 50 points for Book 1, 100 for Book 2, 200 for book 3, 400 for book 4, 1,000 for book 5 and perhaps 5,000 points for a book 6.
It is just a suggestions, but perhaps these books should be worth even more points than what I am suggesting considering how many fish/crabs/lobsters they take with the order than brings them......
I agree with you popps, having received around 100 books one/two/three/four and only one book five, and still hoping to see a book six or 120 ps someday, one would hope the dev team takes the rarity factor into account and don't make book 5 and 6 even more scarce; and also put them into the library turn-ins at higher point values than the cheapskate crab and lobster rate. I'm estimating 10 years for a brit ship at my present rate on just donating crustaceans.
