I recently checked my UO partion and the UO folder is now nearly 30 Gigs is size, compared to the other online games I play this is huge. Is there some problem with the file cleanups after the upgrades and patchs or is this normal. It appears only one file 'LocalizedStrings.uop' is taking up the room. I an running Stygian Abyss with the High Sea's booster pack. Does anyone have similar experience?? Is this normal?? Thanks.

Are you saving your UO journal in a file in the UO directory/partition? And KylieKinslayer, that's hilarious!
Looks like OP has an oversized LocalizedStrings.uop file.

My LocalizedStrings.uop is 4.5 mb and the entire EC folder is 2.13 gb (including 140 mb of user interface files from different mods)

My UO game folder (includes CC and EC clients with Booster Pack), backup and install files folders don't even come close to half your 30gig, but I have noticed the 'LocalizedStrings.uop' is a lot larger than normal.
I wonder if the increased size of the 'LocalizedStrings.uop' file is the cause of, or related to some of the crashes and memory leaks.
My install installed off a UO gold cd was getting up there, around 15 gigs. I re-installed from the ML installer you can download because my client would no longer patch, now it's around 1.9 gigs.
I would guess old files left behind after patching that just gather and grow larger with time.

5.91 Gigs.....That is with UOSA CC and EC and the EC HS Beta client which i'm just too lazy to remove from my computer.
You should probably do a destructive restore to your computer after safely backing up all your needed files on an external HD.

So it would seem I am one of the lucky...erer unfortunate few whose folder has developed bloatware, I thought it was only microsoft that did this sought of thing. I wonder how important the String file is, ie delete it and see what happens. Hmmm would rather not have to

Just curious. Have you tried to move this file to another folder, then re-patching the EC client and checking every file during patch? That should install just that file.

I don't have a localized anything in my files, and only 8 uop's total for a couple hundred mb.

Judging from the file name, I am guessing this file store the text for all object names/properties etc in different languages.
If you don't mind doing a bit of troubleshooting -
Double check your control panel -> regional settings, ensure you only have the language you want there.
There's also a setting in the EC to always display item name (or was it properties? Can't remember offhand) is english. Check what is your current setting and toggle it.
Exit EC and save settings.
Move this file to a different folder (outside your EC client folder), then restart EC, tick the "check all files" box and let it recreate the file. If it doesn't, probably means it gets generated on the fly after you login. So try logging in and playing a bit to see if you encounter any problems.
If you would rather not do anything in case it might cause other issues, go to EA's knowledgebase/tech support site and open a case with technical support (just to clarify, I mean the technical support page. Not in-game GM). Let us know how it goes.

I'm at 3.7gb combined for the EC and CC.

Thanks for all the input and responses people. I bit the bullet and deleted the localizedStrings file and so far is all working, played for an hour and no unusual issues noticed. I also ticked the check file box on the splash screen and that didn't throw up anything wrong so all appears to be ok. UO folder around 2 gigs now
