Because it's exciting and an old school form of stealing. I've done it leigtimently where I've waited (watching off and on) two hours for a guy to log back into their house to steal both a crystalline ring and robe of britannia "ari" [replica] when it first came out selling for about 40-50 million.

I believe there was a thief named Galad that was known for doing those type of steals.
