Question about New Invasion items drops

With the new invasion, new items have been added as a drop.

Siding with the Ophidians and fighting against the banes

1) All banes invading towns have the chance to have on their corpse a Focus crystal which can be used on a weapon

2) Bane Chosen Guards have a chance to drop on their corpse a new katana, the Defiler of Virtue.

Siding with the Banes and fighting against the Ophidians

1) Meer and Ophidian Mages which can be found at the outskirts of the invaded towns drop Spell Focusing Sash

Now, if the sash and the focus crystal might seem similar (though one works for spells and the other for weapons...), I am not sure what the equivalent of the katana might be when killing Ophidians, as a new item drop...

Anyone knows ?

Also, is there any other new item that has been found ?

Thanks.

There is also a special troll slaying katana on the meers.

There is also a special troll slaying katana on the meers.

Who drops it and what are the mods for it ?

I wonder why it is troll slayer.....

I mean, Fey slayer (katana) sounds more usefull as it can be used against peerless but troll ?

One of my friends got it and said something about an evil troll that had been around sporadically for quite a while.

I heard it was a troll with lots of fish.

Why should the other side having something that matches the katana?

The new property on the troll slayer is a little weird though, seems to cast something like an arch feeblemind spell on trolls causing them to start asking inane questions...

Perhaps because not all players fight for the ophidians but there are players who also fight for the banes ?

They would be at a disadvantage if they only had the sash to get as a drop while the other can also get the katana.........

Do not get me wrong, it can well be that one side can enjoy 2 new drops and the other side only one, it is just that it would surprise me if the developers did not create new items, evenly, for both sides opposing each other.

So, since the Troll katana seems not to exist, is there anything else that was creates anew for the players siding with the Banes ?

Whats the disadvantage?
You pick a side.
And maybe in the end you get more or less.

I dont want the Katana.

I guess one might call it "equal opportunities" for players whether they choose to side with the banes or with the ophidians.

But to be "equal", the opportunities should be comparable and 2 new drops vs. 1 does not much look equal to me........

I am not saying that it is not the way it is, just saying that if it was, I'd be much surprised to see such uneveness between the 2 sides by design choice, as far as the new drops are concerned....

Popps wouldn't want the troll slayer - it would do double damage to him!

Far enough now please, or I might have to hunt out my padlock of troll muzzling. :twak:

The answer to the question 'is there any other new item that has been found ?' To the best of my knowledge, is 'no'.

Thanks for the answer.

Though, I take it that your answer does not mean that out there there might not still be a 4th item waiting to be discovered on some Ophidian corpse.....

I still cannot think that by design one side gets 2 new items and one side only gets 1.....

It can well be, I just would find it very odd and inexplicable to me...........

If the Katana rarely spawns on the Bane Guards, perhaps its Ophidians counterpart item has not yet been actively seeked for ?

There have been far more Banes killing I seem to understand, than Ophidians. Perhaps the scarcity of ophidians' corpses to be looted might explain why a 4th item has not yet been discovered ?

What are you not getting?

On one side, there's the evil red named guys giving 2 new items and the recipe for the blackrock stew, on the other side you have negative karma guys dropping 1 new item and selling the blackrock stew one at a time.

The real question is : why is there another side?

Equivelent as far as i can see was on the previous part of the event where you could hand a book in and get it changed to a corrupt book with your characters name on it. This i think will be a lot rarer than the defiler that drops now.

Hmm....

Are you referring to the Lost Land Desert fight between the Bane Chosen and the Ophidians ?

If so, I remember that from their respective War Chests they could get :

Both A Random magic item and/or a Relic Fragment

Bane Chosen War Chest:

Warded Demonbone Bracers
Shadow Cloak of Rejuvenation

Ophidian War Chest:

Petrified Matriarch's Tongue
Jade Snake Head

Sounds pretty evened out, definately, IMHO, more than the 2 vs 1 of today.........

Difference being, though, that a Sampire can well use the Defiler to some good advantage while that book would hardly help in fights.......

Perhaps the idea is that you choose a side based on what your character would do, not the resulting rewards. Just as in RL, sometimes the path you take doesn't bring you the best rewards. Other times it does. If we all waited to see what the rewards will be, we wouldn't do anything!

Items come and get replaced with new stronger ones, so why worry about them? You can always trade for ones you really want. In time better stuff will arrive making the swords obsolete. So you can be concerned with what each side gets or just play the game as it is now, with the above in mind *shrugs*.

Personally I chose the Bane side in the first part because, hey humans fighting the snakes I've been fighting for years! Both sides weren't clear at all about their agendas, so my character's choice, well, I'm sorry to say but it was what seemed the most probable. I probably missed a wall of text to explain me everything in some random section of a website.
And suddenly in the second part, the Bane are evil guys invading towns and I have to fight Meers and "Britannian defenders"...
So basically I went from snakes killer to enemy of Britannia. Great.

Also it's nice to speak about the character's choice, but let's face it it's a game and when you have to choose a side between newcomers you don't know and/or monsters, the choice becomes a lot more pragmatical. Some of them gives new stuff and that's all. The others give less stuff but kill your karma. Do you really think it gives the Bane side any chance?

UO is a game of powergamers, and their choice is pragmatical. It's perfectly understandable. And the powergamers will make the event turn in a direction or another, they are the ones who are influent in such events. So if the sides aren't a bit equal, that means the EM team wants the event to take a direction rather than the other.

Good News

EA just put out a list of the entire event arch.

It shows you what will happen if you choose side A or B.

It listed all special items you will get past, currently, and in the future.

It demonstrated equal advantage to all that choose a side because those that DONT choose any side are actually at the advantage.

The kicker is that if you have 0 loyalty points for both the ophids and bane. You win.

Also all items can be purchased for $4.99 if you miss the event.

*grins* I must admit I was tempted to kill the snakes too, I'll be honest if I hadn't been scarred for life as a newbie in T2A I probably would have sided with the Bane too. I try not to read up about things I haven't encountered, so my shiny item collection is fairly patchy heh.

I think most players seem to want to collect new items and will follow the item train where it leads, regardless in many cases of the "virtue" or "evil" side then land on. So I do think bane will be slaughtered at this point. But if there's a suddenly uber shiny thing from siding with the bane in a few days, I'd bet that a lot of folk change side to collect those hehe. I prefer immersing myself in a character' role and seeing where I end up. Less reading :p

I do agree, players mostly follow shiny trinkets which means there are few surprises in the results. Which is a shame IMO because event items are replaced with new shinies further down the line, so even the uber stuff won't be uber forever. I guess if we weren't all item orientated we'd be a lot harder to manipulate, and all the shards would end up with unique results from the paths we took through events. Which in itself would be cool, albeit adding extra work for the EM staff keeping track of each shard's features ;)
