i'm really considering playing again, i'm wondering what is the state of uo right now? how's the community since 8 years ago? im not concerned with the game mechanics too much. Is it uncommon to run into other players now?

Atlantic and Pacific are quite well populated besides, now with the General Chat it is way easier to find fellow players to party with for hunts.

Give it a try, I hear there is now a new Program (Call to arms) with very nice advantages for brand new accounts.

Welcome back !!

One of the best things you can do is investigate a guild beforehand and approach them. They can get you involved in all their hunts and what not. What shard were you thinking of playing/returning to?

:stretcher:

My best advice to you is make a 14 day trial account before you waste $12.99...

of course you would say that, only 5 people are in chat right now on siege. perhaps if you played a prodo server you would have fun again! if you miss home just turn insurance off!

Enough please!

As it happens, I am currently in general chat on Siege. Chardonnay has been telling anyone who would listen that the server was dead for as long as I've played it. Most of us no longer respond. Perhaps a few more should follow our lead?

I can only give you my experiences on Chesapeake. Compared to 8 years ago the community has very much diminished. The only major city you will generally run into players is Luna. Most of the other cities are empty or you might see a single person run thru occassionally. Most of the dungeons are the same way.

Generally you will see people if there is some sort of event occuring, invasion, EM outting, player organized etc. But most of the other times population interaction is pretty sparse.

I would suggest finding a large guild that is part of a larger alliance of guilds to have a remote chance of gathering a group together to adventure.

As has been posted above, I'd recommend a free trial account first to see if UO will meet your expectations.

There's still a lot of people. Reading stratics is probably not the best idea if you want to join the game. Bunch of people reminiscing about the good ole days.

Anyways, there are lots of great shards, although a few are dead.. If you're looking for high pop, try Atlantic or Great Lakes.

...

Are you going to be fighting over spawn spots no matter where you go?

Nope.

Is the place desolate?

Nope.

Each shard will have its own hotspots of activity based on any of the following criteria:

- PvP
- EM Events
- Player Trading/Events
- Desired resource locations
- New, freshly added content

More and more area has made the game far thinner in terms of running into other people ingame, however as stated above, that is also offset by global chat which helps people connect for "circles", trading between players, and events (well at least when it's not being overrun by spamming or E-Peen waving anyway).

However, that doesn't mean the game is empty... emptier than in the past, yes (as shown to me by having almost every house location around my cabin south of Minoc becoming open again), but not completely desolate.

My apologies Petra, I will try to be more of a conformist from now on! I promise! :blushing:

Play on Atlantic. Luna has the usual crowd, a few stubborn types sit in Britain, and Haven also has a decent crowd at most reasonable hours.

I agree with Skrag. As an idocer I spend alot of my time roaming through fel, tram and malas in the middle of no where and I frequently run across people hunting, exploring, chatting with friends and doing random things in their houses. I can also tell you that I've played several other shards in the past 2-3 years and this was not the case else where.

I just rejoined as well (but I've only played 4 years on the account age)! Napa Valley has taken a HUGE hit to population, it's really no longer possible to sell items without a vendor in Luna or using the stratics sale forum inside napa valley. Every spawn that used to be camped, I have yet to run into anybody. In 1 week of returning, I've only come across about 6 people while hunting... haha. But from the looks of it, there are still enough people on the server from the looks of the vendors and sales.

The guild I used to be a part of has completely disbanded (used to be #1 veteran members). 1 of the 4 houses has collapsed and they're taking down the others.

Sooo.... it's still a lot of fun, but much less populated... on Napa Valley.

State of UO = worst it has ever been. :sad4:
I bet you anything I could go back 12 years and find posts just like this one if posts from back then could be searched. People started saying the game was dying before it was even officially released. They do the same with every MMO that has ever gone to open beta. I'm betting you could find people saying the same thing about WoW.

Is the population down from it's peak in 2002, or whenever it was? Of course it is. Are there still lots of people in game? Yes there are. It's not too hard to find people to go have fun with, even if you are an antisocial geek such as myself.

There are certain posters on these forums that are predictably negative about everything - so much so that what they say has pretty much lost all meaning to anyone with an ounce of objectivity and intelligence.

I waited over a year for magic arrow nether bolt to be fixed. As soon as it is, nether bolt eagle strike, which is twice as bad, is released. Oh happy day. But silly me for thinking the state of this game is awful. I'm just a nay-sayer who likes to troll people on stratics. Duh! :gee:

P.S. I hope you're proud that you reward and defend less than mediocre game development.

Recognizing the truth is the first step to recovery...

I've offered plenty of feedback in my time, both positive and negative. My posting record speaks for itself, as does yours.

And yes, that issue with eagle strike and nether bolt does need to be fixed. I'm sure with all the yelling that's been going on the devs are aware of it, and it will be fixed. They've been taking a well deserved break, let's hope they come back refreshed and rarin' to go. :)

We ain't stubborn, just nostalgic :D lol

Have not played for eight years, only 76 months so I can not answer what the community is like compared to back then. On Atlantic it comes and goes, to me right now it's decent to good. With an active EM {whether you agree or disagree with how he runs things on occasion, you have to admit he is VERY active} the "community" feel is taking strides in coming back strong. Population is and has generally been high {and not just from smoking :D }, but you can still find areas where you are able to have the place to yourself - even during peak playtimes.

Play on chessy. Fun, never alone, pvp, hunts, not sure what everyone else is complaining about. Volume may be down compared to 1998-1999 but it has been very stable since about 2005. We are all addicted for different reasons, but we are all here. I am not a complete fanboi. Have a life in fact. Yet this game is still just fantastic and immensely complex and detailed. Come back to the game, but use the new client with pinco mod. Since you won't be stuck in ur old ways, you will love the enhanced client.

Doing your job poorly = well deserved break? Boy, where can I apply to work with these guys?

By the way, taking partial quotes of someone's post is pathetic. :loser:

Leaving the portions that are irrelevant in a quote leads to confusion and wastes the time of those reading your posts. It's called being clear and concise. Once you're done trolling, you might want to give it a shot. Who knows, you might like it, and maybe everyone else would as well. And if they are desperate to read the entire post there is a link to the original post included with every quote.

As for doing the job poorly? They are working on a fourteen year old code base, that has been worked on by dozens, if not hundreds, of different coders. Given all the layoffs and cut backs there is a very good chance that they are under-resourced and understaffed. In fact I could just about guarantee that.

On top of that they have to put up with constant whining from clients such as yourself and a heavy load of feedback that ranges from worthless to outright contradictory. I very much doubt that any of them put in less than 60 hours a week in a typical work week.

I'm sure they love their jobs, and I'm sure they are well payed, but I also very much doubt that you are in a position to pass judgment on them. Maybe once you've gained some maturity and perspective, you will be.
