Merchant ship vs pirate ship difficulty?

Are merchant ships basically a blue version of pirate ships or are there differences in the difficulty in combat? Just curious. Thanks!

No, they aren't. IMO they are quite a bit harder. Gargoyles >>>> Orcs.

About the same..all but gargoyle one...hes meen..

But ive used the merchant ship to kill pirates..if you can get them to come near each other they will attack...

Had 3 ships doing this few days back...was a blast..
