The inventiveness of the Mythic staff knows no bounds. When it comes to using new definitions for words whilst avoiding technological inexactitudes I stand in wonder.
Remember when we actually used to get some feedback when a shard went down?. There would be a post saying it was being worked on and everything would be back to normal 'SOON'.
Of course this did not necessarily mean that the offending shard would be be restored 'soon' The definition of 'soon' in this instance actually meant sometime today or this week (maybe); but at least we knew that just maybe something was happening somewhere.
The latest word to be employed with an interpretation far divorced from its actual meaning is 'intermittent' A new novelty is that we are told in advance that something is going to happen - nothing specific to a shard but something.
from the Herald ;-
Please be advised - tomorrow, December 7, 2010 we will be conducting maintenance on some of our connections from 7:30AM to 11:30AM EST. During this time Test Center and Origin will likely be unavailable and the patcher may be unavailable intermittently.
In the event the 'intermittently' operating server has stopped anybody logging into Europa for the entire evening - prime time in Europe.
I suppose because we were pre-warned nobody has found it necessary to acknowledge this fact so as far as the entire population of Europa is concerned all the EA staff might be on a sabbatical somewhere whilst we 'intermittently' try to log in
The definition of intermittent is :- stopping and starting at intervals; pausing from time to time; periodic.
I dont think what is happening to Europa really falls inder this description and that being so it might have been nice if the loss of Europa had been acknowledged even if we had to revert to our old favourite 'soon'.
