I would like to see a free (filled commodity deed) market as part of Ultima Online.

Right to the point.

A set of trading stations run by some economically talented elfs or dwarfs or goblins or whatnot, that one day decide to make our shards their new home.

At a trading station you would find a personal bank box, just like a normal bank where you can fill and redeed commodity deeds.

At a trading station, you would be able to list a filled commodity deed up for sale, with a set price. You would also be able to enter a "buy order" for other goods transferrable via commodity deeds.

The kind elves/dwarves/whatnots would supply us with an up-to-date list of every commodity deed for sale, anywhere in the world. From that list, any player can choose to purchase commodity deeds from other players, using the elves as brokers. After a purchase, you'd have to travel to the correct trading station to pick up your purchase if it was listed for sale at another trading station.

The same list would also show the active "buy orders" for commodities. A player could then decide to sell a commodity deed directly to the buy order. A buy order would be valid for only one trading station, making players have to travel to that station to sell, as well as perhaps spanning the entire shard or parts of the shard (Ilsh, Trammel, Fel etc).

This kind of system would finally let us, the players, decide the fair price for any commodity.

Of course, a variation of this system is already in place, where the price on iron ingots, arrows & bolts, etc varies according to supply and demand - locally in each store. But there is no global view of the "set price" for each commodity making large scale trade impossible, or only possible through a large net of contacts.

If implemented, even cross-shard trading could be profitable. Imagine cleaning out all higher level ingots for sale in Atlantic and bringing them elsewhere.

Well that's my vision. Now bring out your sharp pencils and let me have it. Or not :)

This is basically an auction house - if a complicated one. I'm against everything that let's you avoid going to the vendor. because then, why have vendors at all?

Also - no dwarfs in UO!

Definitely. No dwarfs - ever!

But, I see such a system not as a replacement for vendors. You would only be able to list basic stuff such as can be used to fill a commodity deed. Only bulk items, in other words.

Selling that fine uber broadsword would still only be possible using your vendor, or personal contacts, as it is today.

I'm against auction houses, they make it REALLY easy for certain types of players to control portions of the economy. (this happens on WoW as well, scripted buyout of everything below X cost, resell at a higher cost). Part of what gives UO it's appeal to me also is the player run shops, and this would definitely hurt them.

As for Dwarves...ahem....mountain-folk, why not? They've been in ultima since day 1 and actually, by the story, should have a colony in the abyss. (an abyss town)

Sounds like WoW's vendor system which was awful.

Wandering all over the planet clicking 98498423 vendors, half of whom are empty, is bullcrap. At least in WoW I can actually buy the thing I want.

Sweety, you got WoW confused with UO.

WoW has the auction house and Dwarfs.... UO we have vendors and a good deed system.
If you cant find something ask on Chat. I am sure on most shards you will get an answer for at least 1 person with or can make you the item.

I'd like to see it too. With numbers dwindling, having an auction house to facilitate the buying and selling of goods only makes sense.

Yes, when I want something unique I will browse the vendor houses, or call someone on chat.

What I am talking about here is a bulk goods market. Not an auction house. Please tell me there is a difference between a market with buy and sell orders, and an auction house?? How do I use an auction house to buy 100k ingots at the price I want?

Please keep other games out of this discussion. I'm just having an idea that I really believe would improve UO *without* disrupting the vendor system.
