HEAR YE!

Mutant, feathered beasts of the Abyss have been sighted throughout the realm! The valleys stir, rabble rousing from their freakish gobblers pierce the night air, emitted from the most foul and alien beaks your eyes have ever seen. A fire, the thirst, it burns in their eyes from the blackest pits of their souls.

So board up your houses, hide your children or grab your swords - Turkey day cometh and we hope you brought your appetite!

From all of us here at BioWare Mythic - Have a safe and happy holiday,

Well I missed the Turkey's last year. Any suggestions on places they usually show up?

Shouldn't we expect them tomorrow after server up? They did mention they were working on a publish for this so if the servers haven't come down today, it's probably not active yet.

Oh, ok, spend days last year to get everything from those. Good to know I don't need to bother.

Does tm. mean trademark, or tomorrow? Because I like that if it means trademark :)

I did intend it to be trademark, however "tomorrow" could be considered accurate as well, if you like double meanings.

They can not be the same rewards!!!

At this point, even I am willing to say "Be thankful we got anything..." Even if it is recycled and without any fiction regarding why they are back without the moongrass.

*shrugs*

Though if the "Santy's Hats" thing comes up again this December, heads will roll... :stir:

That bugger hit me for 51 Damage in a max resist suit. Doh ... gotta wait until back home from work to kill em with a tamer. Only got 1 character with macros set in the office. ;)

What can i expect, lootwise? I've never seen those before. They look pretty cool tho. Somehow they introduce too much new stuff for the time i can invest in UO. ;)

Hey, the turkey feathers are better than invis potions - those should be what even those sick of all the other rewards, should be hunting the turkeys for.

Also, the Harvester blades from turning in the plucked turkey rare drops (to a butcher) are still in VERY high demand. After all, they bring EVERYTHING harvestable (not just leather, but also feathers, meat, dragon blood, Dragon Scales, etc.) into your pack, and give +10% (or more) to ALL those things, as it is +1 per 10 items, or fraction of 10; so 12 normally harvested becomes 14. And, it includes the Human bonus (which works the same way) in the multiplier.

To give you an idea,
a. an elf or garg harvesting a slith with a normal blade or Butcher's War Cleaver gets 10 leather.
b. the same character with a Harvester's Blade gets 11 leather

c. A human with a normal tool or BWC gets 11 leather (10, plus 1 bonus)
d. the same human with a Harvester's Blade gets THIRTEEN leather (as in c, but then gets 1 from the first 10, and ANOTHER 1 for the extra 1 from the human bonus).

The most efficient leather gathering is with a human with such a blade, with the most efficient of all being humans going after creatures that other races get 10 leather from (like the slith), as they get an effective 30% more than an elf.

Last year they were just about any place a bird would spawn. There was a flock of 5 or 6 outside the East gate of Moonglow all the time.

Same loot as last year, including the 2009 wine/cider. There are rumors of new items, but they are probably bunk.

Since Mythic didn't bother to remind people: To complete the Ornithologist's Maps, you need to go to the Moonglow Zoo and say "brush" near Al Wilson the Ornithologist." He gives you an Ornithologist's Brush (timered item, 10,800 seconds). You then find where the map points to and brush the ground till you find the nest. (same loot as last year)

*Molly swings helplessly from the turkey's neck as she tries to guide it towards the kitchen*

I'm gonna need a bigger oven too. Much much bigger.

Good news kids, there's gonna be a FEAST! Bad news is that the turkey sandwiches might be in the lunchboxes till May.

Hmmmm, that's not unreasonable. Though the ones obtained during the actual event should still be better than ones obtained afterwards.

I would consider having a rare "raw turkey" drop from the cornucopia, same graphic. When turned in, it would give a blunted harvester's blade with a limited number of charges (say 500) before the blade breaks. This way the original ones retain their value and those who missed out have a chance at a version of it.

But...Sakkarah has gone.........

Exactly, I'm one of those who missed last year's turkeys as it goes, so it's good to have a chance this year...and nice that the turkeys don't attack on sight too, my little trainee stealther was quite glad of that ;)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the brush! They should post these instructions on the herald.

Very unlike you, DevilsOwn... That was absolutely less than helpful.
But also accurate. I wasn't here for the events last year, but when I heard they were being repeated, I ran around Europa last night looking for them... I couldn't find any, so I read what occurred last year. I've not seen one yet, but I discovered that yes, they are not soloable except to bards, they teleport to anyone with followers out, have an area of effect spell, and are basically what Ancient Hell Hounds were based upon... and they weren't soloable even to bards either, unless you fought them near The Slasher of Veils (they couldn't be cross provoked). So as nothing has changed in the last year, there's nothing he could tell you that was any different; lots of friends and chip, chip, chip away at them.

Meanwhile, I do have a bard with 3 skills at 120, so I'm off now to find me two turkeys...

This is a good event for provokers which is nice because they are often excluded due to unprovokable creatures. Find yourself a good provoker to go hunting with and have them make the turkeys dance with each other.

This is what I do. So, provoke bards and patience!

I will try to do 3 at a time, A>B, B>C, C>A.

Bring friends or even invite strangers along, everyone that does damage will get a map fragment (or full map if lucky).

Just wanted to say that I find them easy to kill with a good archer. Simply keep moving and fire away (dont forget to honor!). Takes a little longer than a Rikktor - but no danger if you dont get into his attack range. Simply heal when the area effect hits you, it wont do it twice in a row so you have more than enough time. Takes abt 15 minutes to kill one for me (i used a bird slayer but dont know if it makes a difference).

Ugh, same rewards? *frowns* I don't really mind them having some of the items from last year, but it would have been nice to have the names or hue changed on the 2010 maps ( a bloody ornithologist's map), cornucopias (a plentiful cornucopia), etc as well as update the loot from the cornucopias. Just adding a few new items... maybe one to the new cornucopias, nests and turkeys would make this event more enjoyable for those who did it last year.

I really don't think people would be complaining as much if this had been handled slightly different. They didn't have to change the system... just update the loot tables. With some simple name/hue changes and a few new items I think you'd have a much more pleasant crowd. Also, please provide more information for those new/returning to UO on HOW to do this event. Not everyone reads Stratics and having that lack of info from the herald is going to frustrate those players.

By the way, warning to the other players... with the turkey feathers spawning again (I'm assuming with the rest of the loot appearing the same)... if you see "a bird" with the same graphic as the giant turkey feathers... it is not rare. Be safe!

*keeps her fingers crossed that this oversight is simply a bad dream and that it will be fixed promptly.*

I'll lessen my gripe about the lack of news... I found a town crier directing someone to speak to Wilson in Moonglow. At least that helps, but it would be nice if the announcements had made a reference to speak to the town criers. I wasn't aware we had working ones again with the Treasures of Tokuno references. I wonder if the Sherry the mouse statuette is giving this news too...
