I see UO has Imbuing now, does this mean there is no need for runic tools for fletchers and carpenters now, or even smiths and tailors for that matter?

It looks to me like you can make something do about anything you want it to, if so is there a need for a heartwood runic fletchers tool?

Thanks for any input.

Hi, your observation is partially correct.

You still need the mules to make the base objects to imbue, or you will be limited to 450 total weight not 500. And runic kits have found a slightly different use. People use the low end runics to craft items with the one mod they want and then imbue the rest up. And, The top end runics can still craft better items (more total properties) but it is still random.

Yep. You also can't imbue elemental damage - but elemental damage now doesn't count as a property when making runic items (an item made with a DC hammer is now 1-2 properties PLUS a chance to have something other than 100% Physical damage)

It is impossible to create anything REMOTELY as powerful with imbuing, as one can get from a top-end runic.

The only problem is that runics are too random, for that to be much good - but it makes for a hell of a lottery.

Just for fun, go to Test Center some time and craft Twinkling Scimitars (a ML recipe, which should be available in the bank - if command, if necessary) with a Valorite runic,

There you will see just how much more potentially powerful runics still are, over imbuing, if you're willing to gamble.

(let's see -
Twinkling Scimitar
40% DI (from exceptional with Arms Lore bonus +5% DI) for free
21% DCI (15% plus the +6% from the recipe)
30% SSI
3 other properties at 85%-100% intensity (say, HCI, Life Leech and Mana Leech)

OR

40% DI
6% DCI (the rest up to 45% is easy with the right gear)
30% SSI
and FOUR properties at 85%-100%...

for a purely PvM character....

That's 640% base intensity if all are 100% - well over 700% weighted intensity; and that's not counting anything from being made from other metals (Especially Gold). And, unlike the Imbued item, it can still have Powder of Fortifying used on it if it ever gets beat down too far.

Hell, given the price of some imbuing ingredients, and the loss of relic fragments on failure, you might actually be able to BUY a valorite hammer on a shard for cheaper than what some people invested into their weapon's manufacture (including the POF, which can range from 150-200k on big shards, per vial, 300-600k per vial on smaller shards).

I make a lot of money off of weapons crafted from runics.....Normally the 100 percent elemental ones exceptional 40DI with no other mods. Perfect for the would be owner to hten imbue to their own specifications. Go through a lot of DC runics but it pays off in the end.

I am DENNAR the Bowyer from LS, and yes I was on MYUO, Petra helped get my old screen name back. She offered to get my post count also but post count does not matter to me.

Cant say I ever made Rune Books Dennar never had enough Magery to Mark or make RUne books.

Ive come back after a two plus year departure. Not only have I forgotten most of what I knew but I am way behind the learning curve on present gameplay.

I enjoy doing the Heartwood Quests because it is mindless and relaxing. I have gotten alot of Runics (only two Heartwood) and was wondering if I could make anything worth while from them. I am trying to build imbuing on a char but I wont be doing any pvm, so getting materials will be a problem if I have nothing to trade for them.

Thanks for all the input on my questions, I am sure I will have alot more questions.

I've been able to welcome you back in game, now let me do so on the forums! Good to see you got your log in name too.

Your runics will be of great value and materials are relatively easy to buy and trade on LS. Not a bad time to start up a crafters night again and invite crafters and hunters to join and buy/sell/trade eh?

What you can do is find a tamer to tame you two Ruddy Bouras. They don't require any taming to control and can handle a good number of creatures out in the world, especially if you have magery to keep them healed. You can hunt many of the creatures around Ter Mur with them and obtain their imbuing resources.
