Someone posted this on another forum. Thought the folks here might enjoy it...la

No, that didn't. It took into account the number of accounts that were logged into each shard at a specific time in history. Then again in most cases if players were playing multiple shards at the same time, they we're either multi-clienting (tisk tisk) or gold sellers who had macros running 24/7 on multiple computer set ups (bigger tisk tisk)...laWell in 1999 when that was done it didnt take into account the #s of players who were playing more than 1 shard. but it is nice that you show us.
Just think what the numbers were when they came out of testing. Early on Siege looked like it was going to be one of the top shards, until they wiped it, and a large bulk of the population quit or went back to their original shards...lalooks like seiges numbers are the same as today...
Yes the numbers posted in this thread is numbers of players online, nothing else. Those are players online, not total population.

Shard population fluctuates throughout the day. If you login to a Japanese shard right now it will look dead. In 12 hours it will be as active as any Western shard you play.Hmm, but isn't shard population really about how many are online, not how many houses you can stare at?
