Hmm... So, we can sometimes debate ad nauseum about what is considered "classic"--pre 15, pre AOS, pre insurance, pre PSs, etc.

However, I don't think that anyone would call a shard with gargs, mystics, and artificers "classic."

I like the general idea, but I was sort of hoping for pre-imbuing, pre-arty weapons and armor.

Word of warning- It allowed me to make a garg, and then spawned me under the water in the middle of the ocean with an orc ship manned by orcs right on top of me.

Sorry cant do pics. When I logged back in I was under the water on a 5 by 5 tile with a moongate. So rescue accomplished.

Actually I'm posting here to make a plea to Petra and/or other mods for a testing section like was done with High Seas, and since the debate rages on in the other thread about the meaning of classic maybe we could sticky a philosophical thread regarding that issue at the top and allow specific threads on the server and the features flow naturally?

That other thread is becoming difficult to read and gives not nearly enough info on where to find things and feedback on the systems in place.

Well it certainly would NOT have to kill it. But Siege needs better tools for survival. consideration for storage or housing, something.

If they made a truly classic shard that did not compete with Siege for a housing choice I would say both might see greater traffic, as people play back and forth trying to figure out what they like and/or don't like about each particular ruleset.

I guess it's a Classic Misunderstanding. As always, players asked for something and they gave something else with the name of what players wanted.

Ok. Not classic at all. Didn't think it was either. However, are people having fun? I sort of like the idea of a free for all kill fest. I like the one kill glass sword idea. Kind of a HALO esque thing. Should also have shields that can ward one hit with that sword and then crumble. Have those at another tower and the chase is on. Not traditional UO. But sounds like fun. Isn't it fun?

After running in and out after the 30th e-bolt it's finally redlined, but all of a sudden a few other players show up with the same idea. You think to yourself, great, I finally get to try some PvP with 0/0 casting basically naked. One of the players casts invis on himself and you run up to him with a reveal ready. Before you knew what happened, the player who doesn't even have a weapon skill had attacked you with a glass sword and you were dead instantly. Now another player shows up, walks up to your friend hits him one time with his glass sword, and he is now dead too.

Maybe that play style is not what you should be aiming for. Perhaps it is more of an unreal tournament sort of idea. I don't think I am planning on makin a sampier or spawner. I am going for hide ninja assassin stealth you from behind kind of guy. Come to think of it, perhaps reveal skill should be inborn in all characters on this shard, so at least you will have shot a seeing what is coming.

Sorry they didn't make a shard to your specifications and particular taste. I just try to find out if people are having fun with what is currently available. I quite frankly don't give a rats behind about all these people that are complaining about what they didn't get. Did you try it? Was it fun? If nobody answers I will try myself tonight and report back.

You haven't even played it and you're sitting here trying to tell me how I should feel about it? I can't wait until you get 1-hitted 10 times in a row...I guarantee you change your tune.

Whoever thought of the glass swords idea was an idiot. I was just killed by a stealther with the sword and lost everything I had been farming to get for the past 2 days. They are too easy to get. All you have to do is stand on a tower for 30 seconds without dying. There are no people there to protect, and dragging the spawn away is not hard at all. Then you get this weapon that you can kill anyone with in one hit. Skill is no longer required and you can go out there naked so you cant lose anything if you are killed. It was the worst idea EA has come up with yet. The shard is a great idea and if it wasnt for those stupid swords I'd still be playing it.

The sword should half kill the weilder as it shatters. There should be a timer. Fun yes.. Classic NOT EVEN CLOSE!!
You have to at least go back to pre-aos to be even close to classic.

I will start by saying this....

For as long as I've been playing this game, on and off for 12 years + I must say, I was VERY excited to read the Dev's finally decided to try a classic shard. I was very disappointed to read it might only be online for 1-2 months.

Then I read about the glass swords, and thought, that's not classic!

So I figured I'd give it a try. I log on, create my char, and run around a littlebit.

I see Gargoyles and ninja's running around. I think to my self, that's not classic. I cast reactive armour, and magic reflect, and I get just worked by a gargoyle. Nothing reflects, and Nothing is ractive. I think, this is not classic...

I then gather a few resources, and go back to the bank, and some newbie one hits me in Brit bank. I'm dead, so can't call guards, and the NPC's don't call gaurds, so I loose everything I grabbed because of these glass swords.

I know the risk of a feb based system, but I should at least be able to react!

I must say, Very happy to read a classic shard is up, very sad to see it is so far from classic it is not even funny...

How can a mage compete without FC/FCR in a classic environment?

I just created a UO account to check the classic server out, but when I log in only the names appear.. the map never loads and the account screen is still up. Every other server works but SOTD and I tried to reinstall, but the same thing happened. Any ideas on how to fix it.

Did you patch?

Could be tied to your young player status?

Go onto a production shard and renounce this, perhaps will allow you onto SOTD that way (as its a Fell based server)

I patched fully and got rid of the young status and I still can't log on. Well, actually I think I'm logged on cause I see names pop up and disappear, but the map never loads and just stays on a blank account screen. Its only this server. I was talking to someone else who is having the same problem.

If the shard still has glass swords, TRUST ME, you do not want to waste your time there. Glass swords are perhaps the worst/lamest thing that UO has ever done, although there was AOS. hhhmmm.
