Britainnians to get Frigates!

Hear Ye Hear Ye!

Fellow Britannians,

It seems that the Royal Shipwright has revealed plans for a new ship Britainnians can finally call their own!

From what we know so far, this new class of battleship will be called a Frigate. Built to be stronger than the galleons currently used by the other races, it will also be able to carry more cannons.

Some sacrifice has to be made of course, as a battleship, it will have a smaller hold, but still carry enough speed to keep pace with all but the sleek Tokuno galleons.

It was to be revealed earlier, but the design of the new cannons was causing no end of problems to get right. The delay was mainly due to the fact that the new cannons required a combination of magic and new technology that will enable them to automatically load themselves.

Yes, you heard that right, auto-loading cannons! No longer do seafarers need go through the entire loading process!

We expect that this will make life for Britannian sailors much easier.

p/s In case folks are wondering, no, this isn't really happening, it's just a crazy idea coz I'm still miffed that we aren't getting frigates...

Terrible news!!

The plans for the new Frigates have been stolen just before they were to be revealed! A terrible blow indeed to the maritime prowess of Britannians.

Recently, the capture of a pirate who had part of the plans on him has revealed that the theft seems to be the work of several pirates that worked in concert. Pirates who feared that fleets of these new ships will affect their current dominance of the seas. Amazingly, they have put aside their differences temporarily to stage this bold theft.

The fragment of the ship plan recovered from the captured pirate and further interrogation revealed that the ringleaders have themselves planned to use the plans to build their own fleet of Frigates.

However, evil often turns upon itself. None of the pirates trust the others enough to build the first Frigate. They were unable to reach an agreement and have since torn the plans into 8 fragments split between them to prevent anyone from having an advantage.



Queen Dawn has since issued a decree that all ship captains are to actively hunt for the pirates and recover all plans and copies (for no doubt copies would have been made). A huge reward awaits all who are able to recover any part of the plans.

Moreover, any captains that manages to recover the complete plans have been given leave to use the plans to build their own Frigates with their autoloading cannons.



In related news, there have been rumours that a prototype of the new Frigates have been built. This ship, the HMS Cape, seems to have struck disaster near the Cape of Heroes. It is whispered that the wheel was magically enchanted with strong magicks that strengthened any ship it was used on.

It's bad enough that the folks from Tokuno and Ter Mul have us Brittanians beat with their newfangled ships. But the indignity to know that even the Orcs have built their own galleons while Britainnians have but ships no bigger than rowboats...

And Harley if you look on the front news page of uoguide there are some shots from uo in alpha, and in one of those shots... there is a large galleon looking craft manned by skeletons with cutlasses and boots.

Last time I linked there they didn't take kindly. So I ain't gonna do that no more.

UO was supposed to have those in for players too, but the sea movement problem forced them out. Then, somewhere along the ways, someone threw out or lost the art for them.

Harlequin, I hope we don't have to find Blue Tassles to be able to pilot these.
