More yakkin' about the new expansion.

The idea of ship to ship combat between players is enticing. It brings a dynamic to the game that would be unique. Imagine, ships of PKs chasing down merchant vessels... bounty hunter flotillas coming after said PKs... hell, even shoreline bombardments at PvP battlegrounds.

But nope, I doubt it's gonna happen.

Why?

Well, again, in my previous thread, I still assert that people don't go to Felucca because, simply, they don't wanna deal with PvP*. (Now mind you, I've just now completed a YEAR visiting Felucca at least weekly hunting wisps, and I NEVER ONCE saw a PK appear....) But now nobody is going to risk their 200k (probably a lot more when you fit it with cannons) investment going to Felucca.

So how could we make people take that risk?

* - And before the hate mail inflames the thread, I still ask everyone to look at the facet populations. The people have spoken. While many people do enjoy the PvP experience, the fact everyone plays Trammel proves that the majority of the players do not want to have a battle forced upon them (that they will probably lose, since a PK usually templated and pointjuiced up for taking down other PCs) at any given moment.

risk vs reward

do you want to be left relatively alone to fish any spot that you want with very little to no competition? come to fel. but.....BUT you may have to fight a PK for it if they decide to come looking for fishers.

Aint broke, nothin to fix here.

Actually its not the gold that ppl care about ... its the time spend...
- on crafting ammo for the cannons (and loosing them)
- getting robbed of all those very time consuming fished up lobsters and crabs

I think what would make boat pvp worth it and enjoyable would be if EVERY ship had items in its hold that the game engineered [cant be looted by anyone unless they where the player that "beat" that ship in battle].

Like a random stash of gold/resources/etc so when you do boat pvp and win you get to loot everything from that boat but not at a cost to the player that got defeted [as noone whos pvping carries anything they might loose].

This comes from playing WOW and in pvp you'd click the corpse of the person you killed and get gold and badges [used to buy pvp armour suits] BUT it didnt come from the player it came from the game, it was only a small amout graded on the player you killed's rank [like in faction points] but it ment there was a reason to kill people asside from just for the kill.

It made me wana pvp in WOW where i never did in 5 years of UO as i was crap and there was no "reward" as no one carries anything worth looting.

I'd love to see an event like this:

1. 4 Teams Sign up.
2. Each team has an equal number of galleons, owned by nobody but the game. Minimum 1 each, maximum 5 each.
3. Ammo is free but limited for each ship. To get more, you need to go ashore and to pre-specified locations to get more charges, ammo, etc.
4. Everyone who enters must pay an entry fee of 100k or so.
5. The teams are divided equally amongst signups and every crew has non-injure settings against fellow crew mates.
6. The ships all start together in four locations.

Deathmatch:
- We go until on until one side is left. Anyone killed is teleported back to Trammel and cannot come back until the games are over. All survivors of the team get a share of the gold and/or special items.

Magellaneous Assault:
- Free for all. Everyone can hurt everyone. However, there is one gold ankh (picked up at the isle of fire) that goes on the prow of the ship that touches it and turns the ship bright gold. The ankh stays there until another ship conquers it. The first team to successfully circumnavigate the map without losing the ankh wins.

As I'm stating it, sure it's griefable and abuseable. But we could refine it. What are your ideas?

Most people don't realize that PK's arent' running rampant all over of fellucia and YES you can easily find some back areas to make tons of resources or hunt til your hearts content. Just about the only place you'll find them is the obvious spots like fel yew, champ spawns, faction bases. The rest of the time fel is pretty empty. Unfortunately too many trams are just not adventurous any more.

I can see ship fighting being fun, but once you've done it it's much easier to just pvp on the field. The only time I see it happening is over some contested spawn in the water.

Quite untrue for a lot of people. I for one would love to go to fel with my ship, in fact there is only certain fish you can get there. But I will not empty my hold to dry dock and go to fell just to reload my supplies. They need to add a pillar or a new password to existing pillars to transport to fel/tokuno etc.

I'll be the first to admit that I quit PVP'ing ages ago, but I just don't see that system working... It's too easy to exploit like the way the Justice Virtue was originally...

One person with two accounts and two boats could make money from nothing...

Time is also one of the reasons I'm not attracted to Faction PVP. I used to play maybe a few hours a day, why would I want to waste that time in stat after a 3v1 gank? That's 2 or 3 20 minute intervals that I could be PVPing instead of sitting there with my thumb you know where. I hear time is a huge factor for crafting all the crap it takes to use these new cannons also.. if you even have a crafter... holy snooze.
