Is it true that killing a pirate is worth 5k?

I haven't gotten to do it yet. So is it true? Because I can make 5k in like two minutes doing anything.

Here's my one data point: Last night we went out on a ship with 7 players and killed a couple of pirates. I got 1428 gold for each death cert I turned in.

Doing the math suggests that there was a 10K "bounty" on the head of the pirates when returned dead, and that was divided evenly among the 7 of us who killed it (10K / 7 = 1428 after eliminating the fraction).

You're right, though -- this doesn't look like something someone does for profit. They do it because they think it's fun and they can afford it. Kind of like taking up golf.

I am told that killing pirates is the way to get an Orc Ship. Personally I'd much-prefer it if they made it into a viable, money-gathering profession, kinda like treasure hunting is now.

Well, I don't think bounty hunters do it just for fun.

This really needs to be a viable alternative to just parking at a spawn point for an hour. Especially with all the crafting and overhead associated with it. Otherwise a few months from now nobody will be doing it.

I'm not even doing it now. Cannons are expensive, and with a pointless negative return... why bother?

I just got to keep mentioning this so the DEV don't forget it when making content. Remmember 5k prodo=50k on siege and currently siege is paying 1.5 mil equivilent to buy boats to production while production is paying 15k equivilent of siege.

Anyway I don't think they take these comparisons in account. I beleive each dev member that works on content for UO should have a little sheet pined on there cubical cabinet of current currency conversion per shard if not per shard then definetely per siege-mugen compared to production vice versa.

I beleive that should help alot with all ther calculations.

This might be a dumb question....

I was on a crew where we captured a pirate but so far I have not killed any. Do you need to scuttle the ship AND kill the pirate to get a death certificate or can I jusy kill the red pirate, get the certificate and then leave?

Yeah it's not profitable, but it is quite a bit of fun.

I'm fresh back from the Return to Britannia thing, I don't have millions to throw away on fun stuff that doesn't make any money.

If you capture the pirate alive, you'll get a special reward. The hold of the pirate ship also contains special loot.
As far as I know, these are the only ways to get orc ship deeds, so you could try to resell those for a profit.

turning it in alive i got 10k a light fire cannon ball, and more resources than one could ever want. The loot on the ship alone is worth is.
