High seas Q's of death, misfortunes, & repairs

Questions and observations to my new found sea legs.

1)If we die in the ocean, what do we do? I've never ventured out in the seas by myself and was wondering.

2)If ship is damaged and can't move, I guess we should have some repair material (lumber & cloth) onhand. Alternately, recall out, buy them, recall back, make emergency repair. Is this correct?

3)What's the cost to make full repairs (gold wise and material wise). If someone got this info already, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking for the number of cloth & lumber it takes to fully repair (to know what to keep stock).
b)Use boards or use logs? I gather boards are lighter therefore better?
c)Buy bolts and have tailor cut to cloth is cheapest way? Buying ready cloth is more expensive?
4)I must've ran back & forth a dozen times to repair because materials are heavy. What's the best way of repairing?

5)What happens if I lose the runes to my ship? One in pack and one in bank.

6)Is it true non High Seas players can't get onboard the new ships owned by others even if they have full permission? Seems they can get on the new rowboats though.

7)We can't use Poison Fields, Fire Fields, etc while on these new ships? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks if you can help answer. I can't test this stuff, but it's vexing me.

1. Either call a guildmate to rez you, or help/stuck to a town and rez

2. you need to have boards and cloth to repair the ship. The most efficient way I have found is to keep bolts of cloth and about 5k boards in the hold. Use scissors to cut what cloth you need for each repair.

3. If I counted right, from scuttled it took 100 of each to make emergency repairs, then about 1000 of each to repair back to pristine. (garg ship)
b. boards.
c. see my answer to #2

4. See #2

5. Either find it, get back on and mark new runes, or it will decay in 5 real days and you can place a new one. I put the rune in my runebook, that way its near impossible to lose!

6. True. You need the expansion to board any of the new boats.

7. I have not been able to field either, however EV's can be dropped on an enemy boat.

In the past if you die on your ship you are still able to command your boat to shore. Haven't yet tested that out on the new ships yet. But I imagine it should still work.

Ok, that clears it up a lot.

For #3 I'd like to get an exact count if anyone knows. I could swear I spend over 1000 cloth. I haven't tried cut cloth or folded cloth, just the one labeled "cloth".

For #4, I guess since we can't carry 1000 stones, just keep recalling to the ship or have packies I guess. Helps keep you out of commission for a while (which makes sense).

what about all the other questions that were not asked?

1) how can people board your boat? and control it (ie steal it)

2) is there any way to prevent someone from boarding or stealing your boat?

3) is there any way to know your loyalty rating with the fishing mongrol?

4) I got message from quest that my boat was too small so he gives me a smaller quest (from my old boat) and when i got a gar boat I got the same quest??

5) how do you operate all the peices of the boat? is this explained somewhere?

there are a few more questions that would come from these answers as well.

Good questions too. I managed to figure out some of these.

#1. Clicking on the new tillerman, you have security settings sort of like a house. Some setting lets just passengers on, some gives control to cannons, some give control of the cargo hold, and finally control of ship. Hopefully someone can post a screen shot of that menu with some descriptions of the settings. If standing on your boat, you can click on player to bring up a menu to allow (just him) certain control or rights. You can deny someone from ever coming on. So there are global rights and individual rights... nice!

#2. You can set the security so that no one can board at all. Although anyone could board my rowboat with no security setting that I can find. Even non HS subscribers can board at will.

#3 & 4 - dunno

#5. Clicking on your ship's mooring rope, you get on and you get off. Just click your own and not the dock's like I was trying (lol). Your tillerman has a context menu. Double clicking your ship's wheel puts you into mouse sailing mode (thus freezing you but you can still cast spells- nice!). Click again to walk about freely again. Double click the cargo hold to open the storage.

so other players cannot blast the crap outta my boat and board her?

to board boat by clicking the moring rope does it look at the permissions then? I got inital permissions by placing the boat so there is no worry of someone clickint that rope and getting on my boat?
ie you have to give permissions to allow someone on your boat by setting it on them before they get on your boat? kinda like the house works?

how do you fire the cannons and reload? can you only make repairs if you have the resources and where do those resources need to be?
if your boat is blasted and cannot move and you do not have magery gate/recall ability then is there no way to move your boat to shore?

1)I think once your ship is badly damaged, anyone can board actually. Haven't tried yet.

2)yes, checks permissions. Default is set to N/A permissions meaning no one has access. Then you either set the global ship permissions, or can set your one and only friend to have permissions (by clicking on him and get menu).

3)I haven't gotten to the cannons yet, and from the sound of it, it sounds a bit tedious for me. But that's just me.

4)repairs need cloth and boards. All can be purchased at npc vendors, or if you have tailor & lumberjack. You must have them on you when selecting the repair menu.

5)When ship is scuttled, there's no way to move it. You can deploy your rowboat and slowly get to shore. Get supplies, then get back to ship. Either row back or use your rune in your runebook to get back (use recall scroll charge). Make emergency repair, then sail to shore (but there's a timer on that temporary repair mind you... 10 min for me).

I have a question, can the old ships now be damaged as well?

As far as amounts of cloth and boards to effect repairs: 14 of each to repair each 1% of damage. Emergency repairs (at sea) will get you from 0-25% of hull strength. You will have to be at a pier or close to shore to effect full repairs.
