The UO Japan site has a BNN story that was posted there on October 9, 2010, but was never posted on the English-speaking UO site. You can find it here: ƒjƒ…[ƒXÚ×

The very rough Google translation is as follows:

In the rain, Dawn (Dawn) is Orusu (Ors) was looking for.
Where to stay but knew there would not have his day who is involved in agriculture. Dawn thought so, the contents of the letter follows the memories were staying up and moving from place to place to stop, however.

In the forest, Dawn was called out.

"I found at last. Her Majesty"

I have heard voices. Bowing to the Dawn is a natural, and there is no waste. Who doubt the castle.

"I defintely never come on vacation?"

"Yes. I'm sorry"

"What kind?"

"In the area of the prison from the court during the user, because it was information that had witnessed an increasing number of cases chosen people, Sherry (Sherry the mouse) I was headed to a different investigation. But, according to latest information, much of The area is under attack like the current "

"What did you say!"

The concern of Orusu can, but it was being attacked in prison is more serious. Because the prison is that "he" because there are.

"It was hard work.'m Now going to jail"

[fancy graphic here]

When Dawn arrived in prison, by people who responded to the call of adventure Sherry attack had already been crushed. But is was crushed, "his" room was the only state that should have clothes.

"Ricardo? Someone not look at him?"

Who could answer was not accurate.

"Well .... If you do not have a clue, so I have to do research here first. Remember to arrange"

Dawn said it plausible.

The fact that Ricardo is gone. Means that much to find the whereabouts of him, seemingly so difficult to find as much as a jewel in the sand at the beach. However, the search is not that I can only imagine how this would also not claim this is also the best.

But for Dawn, at this point, but it seemed best to choose this method.
The fact that Ricardo is gone. It can not be overturned again. But right now about what happened to that? Orusu still have room for consideration. Dawn in order to ensuring that uncertainty, he left the prison, and chose to return to its original purpose.

The rain is getting stronger.

[fancy graphic here]

As the night, dawn will gradually with growing impatience. Have hit a variety of places, Orusu finds. Can not get even a clue. Dawn hopes for the final place to stay Orusu headed.

Dawn was the eye into the room. It was not felt quite the sense of living space. Neither is there anything to look at random furniture.

Suddenly, Dawn out to the outside support assistance as it stood empty. Dawn of the raindrops hit your face.

The sky kept crying.

Short version I got from the event was.
Bane kidnapped/rescue Ricardo from Yew. Their leader leaves note to meet in Magincia *signed V'

Sherry gets dawn to help in Yew, then off to Magincia.
More fighting there, no sign of V.
Return to Dawns house seeing Urs (her husband it seems) is missing.

No wonder the event seemed a bit forced if it was dumped on the EM's :p

I think this last 'event' was definitely dumped on the EMs and slammed into their schedule. While I don't fault the EMs one bit for doing what they are told... Those in charge may want to re-think what goes into a metafiction event.

Because this one was dull and we, as players, had absolutely NO impact.

"OMG Ricardo is missing!" Yet there is NOTHING to do aside from kill some Bane spawn in Yew. And seriously, Yew Prison needs a revolving door installed...

"OMG Ors is missing!" Yet there is NOTHING to do besides kill MORE Bane spawn on Magincia.

*yawns*

The last fiction didn't need an after-thought 'event' slapped onto it; it needed follow-up fiction to continue the plotline. A plotline that’s gotten a bit stale from too many tangents, lose ends and in-game events where player actions have zero affect on the story/outcome. *yawn*

It's a literal translation from the Japanese text. The word "Ors" would be impossible to write in katakana (the "script" reserved for words that originate outside of Japan) -- rather than an alphabet, the Japanese use a syllabary, which is basically a series of consonant/vowel pairs. One of the main reasons for the confusion in Japanese "L" and "R" sounds is that neither one of them exists -- their "R" sound is basically a mix between the "L" and "R" sounds that we're used to.

So anyhow, long story short, the word would be written in Japanese as O-RU-SU which are the most likely to be understood as having "silent U" sounds (if you listen to a traditional Japanese speaker, you'll notice that as an English speaker, you just don't hear the "U" sound in certain instances... it's not that it's not there, just that we're expecting it to be MUCH more pronounced than it truly is, so we just, quite literally, don't hear it).

Basically, they've not changed the character's name, it's just literal Japanese translation.

Unless someone goes and digs up the variable code that's "responsible" for the difference between Orc and Savage populations, it's unlikely we'll EVER have any affect on meta-fiction anyway. They just aren't that clever with their programming, nor would I suggest that UO's in a state it could handle differential plot results anyway.

Not that they couldn't attempt to mask it a little better than they do, but really, the only way they'll be able to do anything like that would be to allow the EMs total control, but as much as I like the EMs, that too would be a mistake.

*shrugs*

Not saying they couldn't do better -- particularly after letting Dawn put out the family jewels for all the world to see.

They could always reset the forts by letting it get taken over by ratmen and then getting what they need in.

I realize, and have realized all along, that they have not changed the character's name.

What I was expressing, simply put, was jealousy over how much cooler it looks in Japanese, and how much cooler it sounds when the Japanese version of the name is spoken aloud in English, following English pronunciation rules.
Ah... got it. hehe Very hard to derive that from a single word... just sayin'. hehehehe

Yeah, been dedicating a LOT of time to clean up Magincia. Pretty much for RP purposes (ie _I_ know I'm doing my part). Just kinda sucks there is no overall designed goal or reason to really try. And though I may see 1-2 people assisting, it is usually the same people and for the same reason.

As I posted in another thread, there really should have been more thought put into this invasion. Not blaming the EMs, blaming the dev team.

Arc events with sub EM events to flesh out specific plot are the best. I thought we had already decided it was best when both were done in concert to each other.

But hey, that's just me.

I greatly prefer EM shard-specific events over metafiction derived events.

The EMs on GL do an awesome job of fleshing out the much of the metafiction, at least as much as they are allowed to. However, I'd rather see metafiction events be more like the Bane/Ophidian war. Fully scripted events allow more people to participate over a greater period of time. Just give us WAY more story in any quest pieces created for said event (the quest givers for the war didn’t say nearly enough.)

One-off events that the EMs are forced to do have yet to truly capture any of the magic the regular EM events have. These metafiction tie-ins leave us a) desperately wanting more b) scratching our heads in confusion c) wondering why there was no satisfactory 'ending.'

Take the last metafiction event, as it was basically the same on all shards:

Dawn, or her representative, tells us that something happened in Yew. We go there and find Ricardo missing. It's clear he's not been abducted (as evidenced by a note in his cell on GL), but demonic agents are there with the Bane in an attempt to capture him. (as evidenced by a book of orders found on GL) So we kill Bane and blackrock golems. Then kill more. Then kill more.

Dawn, or her representative, says we need to find Ors. We go to a house to find him missing and a note from 'V' saying that he has him. We go to Magincia because there are Bane, evil mages and demons there. Mindless slaughter ensues.

Event abruptly ends and we know virtually no more then we did at the end of the last official fiction post.

As I said before, I don't blame the EMs one bit for this event. They have to work within the guidelines they were given for the event, and not even they can gild a turd.

“Why was this event even held?” is the real question. It didn’t advance the plot by more than the tiniest of fractions…a single paragraph in the next fiction could have handled it. Other then there being Bane on Magincia now, it really hasn’t given us anything to DO – let alone a REASON. (No, I don’t mean items)

The Bane Chosen have yet to be declared enemies of Britannia, even though they clearly act against Britannia’s interests. What is Dawn doing about it? What did she tell Dasha? “Sorry, hun, but the husband I neglected in Yew never moved into the castle, even though he’s technically a Prince. Now he’s gotten his fool ass captured! Sorry, but I’m going to sit here and fret about that while your people face extinction. Ta!

Current metafiction Dawn is weak, shortsighted and hotheaded. None of those are the qualities of a great warrior, or of a capable leader.

Agreed on this; When the Daemons came to take the crystal from the Throne room, our Dawn on Europa had to lead us all out the Castle in order for it to be taken... I do not blame our EMs, as that is what was scripted to happen. But I suspect they are constrained by rules which say "No events which kill the players outright without any chance" so when some of us said "Your majesty, we must remain to guard the crystal!" and of course the cross-sharder alts just sat there ignoring the fiction anyway, the EMs just had to despawn it in front of everyone. So Dawn ended up looking tactically foolish as well that particular event just fizzling at the end because the Dev Team didn't plot for this kind of outcome.

I think that getting Dawn to fight is an attempt to rectify this, but as the event itself hasn't been advertised at all, nor the fiction published in English/European Languages it's just increasing the feeling that "The Britannian Powers That Be" don't have a clue what is happening. Why are the Bane at Magincia now? Why isn't my character who sided with the Bane feeling the attention of the law now?

I personally think, as I stated elsewhere a while ago that
Dawn is going to have to sacrifice Ors to rebuild Maginica, and possibly even her own throne in the cause of Humility after being caught napping so badly
but for a dramatic and tragic arc to have impact, you need foreshadowing. For
"the crook and cane", which I interpret to be Ors, something that supports Dawn, but can also be used to drag her off stage and strike her with
to be foreshadowing, or indeed anything to make much sense in game, the fiction needs to be much clearer in game. Why aren't the Guards in Castle British gossiping, or the Bane in Magincia/Ilshenar talking about this "Crook and Cane" gambit, what ever it is? Right now, all I know about the meta fiction is what I gained from this thread and it's babelfish... I didn't even see the Yew event, and wouldn't know it happened if I wasn't watching these boards for High Seas information.
