JOAT bushido and parry

Hello,

I apologize if this questions is redundant, and already answered in another thread. I am new to these forums, and just recently came back to UO after many years off.

My main char is a tamer, but i have a question about the 20 points across the board in all skills, which is granted from jack of all trades (human racial), and it's effect on the pary skill.

Since bushido hurts your chance to parry (unless its over GM I believe) will the 20 points in Bushido from JOAT lower my parry chance?

Example, using the parry calc on UO Stratics site:
90 parry skill + 55 dex = %16 chance to parry
90 parry skill + 55 dex + 20 Bushido skill (joat) = %13 chance to block

Does JOAT really hurt my chance to parry becuase it grants me 20 bushido skill?

Thanks in advance for the feedback. :thumbup1:

JOAT bushido will not hurt your parry chance. This was posted by a dev at some point, but I don't have a link.

I can confirm this. This question was asked a few days after Samurai Empire was released.

JoaT did not exist when SE came out, it was a ML feature was it not?
*is confused*

You're right, I got my expansions mixed up. Still though, the question was asked within a few days after JoaT came into the picture.

JoaT was added when racial abilities became part of the game, which didn't happen until the elves were introduced.

That bonus, why probably not called "Joat" by then, was given to everyone before elves were introduced. When elves were introduced, only humans kept it. It s why you could hide or use camping with zero skill. I think it was stat based though.

That was not a "bonus". That was simply the ability to use low-level spells and such that require 0 skill to use, which is still usable by any race, not just humans. Most skills have 1-2 or more spells/abilities that anyone can use. It wasn't something special that was added. It wasn't until JoaT was introduced that humans got the racial ability of 20 skill points in each skill.

Yes it WAS a bonus, stat based. Your paperdoll would diplay, for example, camping 33.% (real 0), or magery 93.0 (real 92.9). A sometimes huge bonus based on your stats. Nowadays only human get that kind of bonus, though evenly split between all skills, hidden, valued 20% and not stat based.

I have never heard of anything even remotely resembling this.

Well, I am glad I could teach you something :)
I didn't say you taught me anything. I said I'd never heard of it. It certainly wasn't something in place when SE came out, nevermind ML. If it ever did really exist as part of the game, it must have been something from back in the stupid years circa late 90's.

Late 90's, actually until publish 16 or maybe 15, was the best era of the game :) , when you needed a brain instead of items to compete. While I realize pub16 or aos opened to a larger community by bringing not as gifted players to the game, I know a huge lot who got disgusted and left...

EDIT : Ok, I tried to dig out when stats stopped to modify your skills level, but I can't find it. From what I dig from freeshards though, it seems that it was an AOS change. So feb 2003.
