Special Note about "The Art of the Steal"

If you are planning on participating in "The Art of the Steal" stealing event tomorrow night please be advised that you need a minimum of 100 stealing skill to be able to steal the items in question. Unfortunately there is no work around to this, and until a new mechanism can be developed, this is necessary for a Trammel based stealing event.

Given the amount of stealing buff items (The Shadow Dancer Leggings give you +20 and the Burglar's Bandanna +10, coupled with some jewelry) I suspect it won't be too much of an issue to get to over 100 even with starting at 50 stealing.

Lock picking skill is also advisable.

This sounds like it will be a very unique and interesting event! Stealing! Lockpicking! Unfortunately, I cannot make it due to rl(unless it pours down rain tonight and I can angle on the wife to skip it, lol), but please consider doing it again in the future!

The maximum lockpicking that would be required is 50, not in all cases, but 50 none the less. Higher lockpicking will definitely benefit, but there are no minimums over 50.

This is kind of like a test of concept event, so don't worry Tancred, we will!

I almost gave up but I have a good support group. Wildstar, Mirt and I all worked together as a team and nabbed three of them.

[IC] **** was not happy about the tinker tool as payment. He thought of slapping the tools out of Scarlet's hand, pulling a dagger on her and demanding better payment.

[OOC] But I was not sure if that would complicate things for you. Felt like a grey area between RP, EM Event and Specific Prize Items. Didn't want to make a mess of things *Grins*

Really? The tinker tools are a perfect collection to a rogue's tool kit from an IC perspective...seeing as how they need to break into locked places all the time.

As for the gray area bit...it's kind of tough to manage much RP with a mixed crowd. Everyone did very well though!

I think he wanted Scarlet's necklace more *Grins* He will probably go and steal Tagguk's gloves. LoL

Dudley,

Thanks for the thief event. Probably one of the most challenging ever....*laughs*. I'll be using my special toolkit to make some coin off all those city people looking to have their broken doors and ransacked furniture repaired tomorrow! *snickers*

Would you care to elaborate some? That's the only way we can improve the stealing events.
I would personally like to say; the event was "okay". It had good intents; but some things just defeated some of the points.

I'll elaborate some.

#1. Thieving should be done by that; thieves. I am aware you can wear "MANY" items to "become a thief"; but only a thief should be allowed to do this. MEANING; if you stole or "obtained" an item; then only a "thief" should turn it in. If you were working in a team with non-thieves (which is fine) then you take your item; and you figure out a way to divide it amongst your team.

#2. You should of been allowed to grab (1) item at a time; and had to return it. And have very strict consequences for this. I know of 2 people who were carting around 3 items and didn't bother to tell anyone where they got em from. Now; before you yell (THEY STOLE THEM; THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT); it gives them an unfair advantage if they stole, Say Skara's items, and they are off looking in Britain, while other people are still searching for Skara's items bc the EM can't announce that the items from Skara were stolen.

#3. The lockpicking skills "needed" were LOW LEVEL at best. If you had above 80 magery; you could magic unlock the items. I don't think that's what good experienced lockpickers/thieves had in mind when you mentioned this at first.

#4. Again; the end of the event rewards for participation. I suggested for people to turn on their "Stealing" or "Lockpicking" titles so you could get your reward. Now while others "Participated" by "Spotting items & being team players by gating around or magic unlocking"; then you should of had to split your participation reward with your team. Thats the DISADVANTAGE to being with a team as opposed to being solo.

But those are just my "personal" gripes. The event had a very good outlook and had potential to be really awesome; I agree with that. But the problems; like I stated above; turned me off a bit to it.

Also; you should consider doing these in Fel. Because everyone knows "good" thieves have hiding and stealth for those very reasons. :) :thumbup1:

Good job with the event though. A few changes and it could be really awesome.

Thanks for the reply. It's feedback like this that help us to improve the stealing events.

I agree with your first point, unfortunately as it stands now there is no mechanism to regulate this. What we can do is design different events that are more geared towards pure thieves.

For your second point, in the future we will likely allow only one turn in at a time so we can better monitor and advise the remaining number of items available.

I'm actually surprised you liked the lock picking. We had a few comments about the lock picking. To me it is reminiscent of stealing horseshoes out of locked containers in Serpent's Hold. It also fits an in character perspective...I'm not going to let my priceless piece of art sit behind an open door. To quote R. Lee Ermy, "If there is one thing in this world that I hate, it's an unlocked foot locker!"

Our first stealing event was in Felucca, and the request was for a Trammel one. Next we are going to try perhaps making it bi-faceted...in that part of the event will be in Trammel and part in Felucca, incorporating ALL the rogue skills that we can.

Again, thanks for the feedback!
