So, I've heard about these creatures for some time, but for the first time today I really noticed how fast they are. For those who haven't heard about them, Cus tamed before the "patch" (I have a question about this) are extremely fast, and thus very useful in PvP.

I think, for certain, I've fought against tamers using pre-patch Cus before, but really noticed the speed for the first time today. This Cu was able to stay with me while I was at full mounted sprint, for at least 3-4 screens. I was on a ninja/stealther, which is new for me, so running was part of my game. Normally I try to stay on screen in PvP, so I guess I never really noticed, but this thing followed me for many many screens at full sprint. One thing I did notice was that it didn't seem to be able to hit me as I ran full sprint, but it definitely kept up.

Ok, so I'm thinking it would be nice to have one, but what I don't know is what "patch" are people talking about when they say "pre-patch Cu". I'm pretty sure I don't have any in my own current stables, but I do have access to several inactive accounts with tamers (friends who have left, etc.) that might very well have one or more of these animals inside.

So, any clue when this patch went into effect? Alternatively, if someone has one they might want to sell, I'm on Pacific and would offer a good price.

Pretty sure there is no such thing as a pre-patch cu sidhe. This rumor has been around for quite some time, never confirmed. There was also a rumor that pre-patch cu sidhe had higher hit points that a normal cu sidhe, but that was just from cursing(I think it's curse) before taming, and the other stats are lowered as a result.

Check the dexterity of the pet. Cu sidhe and dragons are noticeably faster on the attack once they reach maximum dex, but any tamed cu sidhe or dragon can be trained up to 125 dex.

In other words - save your gold.

Pre patch pets occur when a pet is changed or fixed in a publish, any spawning before the change will be unaffected by it, only new spawn has the change, whatever it is.

To the best of my knowledge cu-sidhe have not been adjusted in any way since they were first introduced in ML.

Dex determines pet movement speed. Higher Dex = Pet can move faster.

See Rune Beetles as an example - after taming, a rune beetle's dex can exceed 125 dex. Take a trained pet with exactly 125 dex and a rune beetle with over 125 (my rune isn't great but it has 137 dex). Tell them follow you. The rune beetle will keep up easier.

Cu's have super high dex pre tame. Like up to 160. Post tame, Cu Dex is dropped, and doesn't exceed 125.

The only thing I could think of is somehow somewhere Cu's after taming had dex which could exceed 125, making them faster. Or it could be a graphics glitch. I have not personally witnessed any of these on my shard.

I HAVE witnessed some creatures, like yamomotso warriors, following me at great running speed. It has something to do with invis. I haven't tried to duplicate it yet but sometimes if you invis/smokebomb/hide, a mob will run SUPER fast and follow you. They don't seem to attack for 4 sec after you unhide, so if a Cu is doing this it would be a great way to seperate pet from master.

Well, I'll just say that this Cu was noticeably faster than normal. After making that post yesterday, I actually pulled out my oldest Cu and had it chase one of my characters around (1 have 2 accounts), and it moved at a normal speed - in other words if I ran from it mounted, it would be off screen within the first screen. I then asked a tamer friend to get his oldest Cu and have it chase me around - same thing - within one screen I couldn't see it any more. The other Cu I fought, I ran at full sprint in animal for for 3-4 screens and the thing was still on my @ss.

JD makes a good point though, the thing chased me so far that the tamer had no clue where his pet was and he got taken out while on foot. So, I guess in PvP having a good strategy can help you deal with tough challenges. After leading the pet 4 screens away, I probably could have circled back and engaged the on-foot tamer and had a big advantage that way. Still, it would be pretty darn nice to have a pet that moved like that (gotta change your own strategy as a tamer as well).

So, I guess I'm still hoping to find out when this "patch" went into effect. If it was, say, just a few days after Cus were introduced, I'm probably out of luck. If they were around for some months at least, I think there's a chance I might have one in an inactive account. Just trying to gather info before paying to activate one. And yeah, if I buy one, I'll definitely have it chase me around first before forking over any big money, hehe.

The differance between your 2 examples are you had a Cu follow you and mounted you were able to leave it in the dust. The other example you gave was a Cu attacking you and it was keeping up with you. Could a Cu attacking a player run faster than a Cu following a player? Try having your friend follow you with his Cu and then attack you with his Cu and see if there is any speed differance.

Fyi, Pre-Patch Dogs exist and can be very Useful in PvP, If you are a Dismounter.

I'm not sure when the Patch went through, but its Been a While, as they are Somewhat Rare.

(Lol)

What patch changed them?

In all cases, the Cus were attacking me. First was the super-fast one I fought (pre-patch I presume) that was able to stay within a tile of me for 3-4 screens at full sprint while I was in wolf form (mounted speed). 2nd was when I used my second account and sic'd my own oldest Cu on the same character - was able to get away within a few steps and by 1 screen away was totally not visible. 3rd was my friend's Cu, also attacking me and same result - wasn't able to stay near for more than a few steps.

So, I'm quite certain that there is a difference, and you repeated my main question, "which patch was it that changed them". I'm pretty sure it's been several years. I think Cus were introduced with ML; my question is were they changed within a few weeks after ML was introduced, or were they around for some months (or longer) before that happened. That will give me a clue as to whether I might be able to locate one in an inactive account.

And yeah, for sure they are extremely useful when used by a dismounter. I'll put it this way, against a regular Cu I can hang around and try to kill the tamer even after I get dismounted - meaning you can stay away from the Cu while on foot well enough to fight (it's a pain, but possible). Against this other Cu, couldn't even get away while mounted.

Sasquatch is super-fast, too. You have to be careful about walking through the northern woods, because once you're targeted it can keep up with you even when you are mounted. The same thing for Nessy (Loch Ness monster) when you get into the fjords near the shoreline north of Minoc, it can outpace any of the dragon ships. I'm still waiting for the patch to fix that.

You can use curse taming to raise the stamina on your cu sidhe. I've submitted a question to the devs asking if this is a legitimate tactic or not. It's not actually dex that determines your pet's speed, it's stamina, and with curse taming you can get a cu sidhe that has significantly higher stamina than a normal tamed cu sidhe. As far as I know there is no such thing as "pre-patch" cu sidhe.

SHHH! I was just taming up a few "pre-patch" dogs to sell, and you gonna ruin it!

You can sell them along with the Sasquatch and the Loch Ness Monster. Most people in game don't read these forums... :)

ive got cu's from day 1 when they came out, and they are the same speed as the ones ive tamed this week.

i would assume 1 of 2 things are probablly happening.

1) its graphics. since you said it was keeping up but NOT hitting you then that right there makes me think its a graphics glitch.

2) if the cu is set to guard you and the guy attacks you that will speed up the pet.

see, what i do is set my pets to guard then i dismount someone with a heavy, my pets are on him before he even hits the ground, and thats from max distance.

but pets have allwasy been like that when set to guard.

i wouldnt waste any money on any 'pre-patch' cu until i could see one keep up at a full run AND hit what its chasing.

If anyone doubts that prepatch cu's exist PM me I'll be glad to show you mine on atl. He will *teleport* a full screen to bite you and he will *teleport* to you everytime he goes to bite you afterwards. and he can stay 1-2 tiles behind a person at mounted speed. I tamed him when ML first came out with the evil omen curse trick :)

It has nothing to do with "pre-patch", it has to do with the curse training, which as far as I know, still works.
