An idea that is.

Reading some of threads. I can safely say we are on the path of derailing a good part of the game - EM's events

Eventually time will be wasted tracking down "unfair EMs" blah blah blah.

Anyway... I dont do EM stuff typically cause of lag. And they take to long.

Many people just want the items which is cool. I buy them and sell them.

My point. Why not take all created EM items and put them in the game this way.

There is a chance for any EM item to be fished up, found in a t-chest. Randomly appear on a random NPC, appear as loot randomly on monsters and show in SA with the RATS Discarded area.

Might be fun.

I think, at least with the current DevTeam/UO Management Structure, that they take the EM complaints with a grain of salt, and don't just make knee-jerk reactions to complaints.

Re: Event Items, sorry, but I completely disagree with your suggestion. While some players may not be able to take advantage of an EM event, or some just don't attend due to lag issues or lack of interest, the rare EM item that does drop is something that to many players has a special place in heart. I know on GL, when event items do drop, they tend to be at the culmination of or during particularly significant plot points, and those who attend regularly see these rare items as a history marker if you will.

Now, I'm not sure what it's like on other shards, but I also know on GL the items dropping aren't items that are of any huge significance. Rather, they're decorational items, even when weapons, that may have a feature on them like the Back Alley Deals that, when double-clicked, acted as a sextant.

I don't think there's any need to start tossing EM items into random drops. Maybe the Devs might start providing similar items on a short-term basis as drops or treasures or whatever, but I think even those should have a life-cycle and then go their own way in UO's history.

Of course, I've long felt that things like the new puzzle rooms, treasure chests, SOSes, and even the peerless and champ spawns were the perfect opportunity to put limited run items into play that were of a decorative nature, and swap them out every three to six months. They wouldn't even have to touch every system, just put a time limit on how long the item drops, and put a new item into say five or six areas with each publish. The biggest part of this would be simply the infrastructure to do it -- once done, adding items to the mix and removing outdated ones should be easy.

But back to the original subject, again, please leave event items as is. They occasionally on very large plots put out clickable dispensers that gives all attendants an item from that event. To scope larger than that except on a very limited time frame (say the 4th of July items as example, which were out for a few days) would be a mistake in my opinion.

When everyone can get the item, no one wants them anymore. The biggest example of this was the addition of Glassblowing. The developers went through all the trouble of designing a whole new system, only to have players discard it within a month after all the once super rare alchemist items were crafted and being sold for 10 gold a piece.

People make a living off of EM items, Especially ones that dropped 5-10 times only. These sell very well and although I dislike xsharding of EM items and would prefer they stayed on the original shard, I wouldn't want museum collectors and rare collectors loose out on something they enjoy.

Usually items are linked to the event, Such as a dragon tooth when we fought dragons on Europa or a Dark Elf Sword when we fought the dark elves and I think the system should stay as it is.

On Europa I estimate it's about 50/50 with those who come to EM events for items, and those who come for the event/storyline. Have the items available elsewhere and events may become quieter, I love a crowd! It reminds me why I play the game, for the players. :p

.

This

I too play on GL and have my entire UO life. I have a few char on other shards but they sit there and rot away at the Inn in Brit. (burn luna).

Anyways to stay on topic. GL is full of history, from old GM decorated houses to event items from story lines and everything in between. To a lot of people it is just about money how much can i get for the next event item. But to ALOT OF PEOPLE on GL it is more than that, it is about preserving that item in one of our many player run museums. I find myself traveling to many of these on a warm weekend afternoon. From MOA Auction house to some of the various museums around Luna and Tram. I like to stroll to the Red Devil Auction house in Fel on occasion for that "old feeling" on the way it used to be. (GM's guarding a player run event before tram yeehaw! Wow was community different then)

Anyways if your idea was to go through it would have to be [Replica]'s and not identical things. But even then a [Replica] can devalue the original. Rare items arnt meant for everone to have, they are meant for museums and the Smithsonian's of UO. Please keep it that way.

Yes!

Event items should be tagged with a code that disables xsharding of the item. I see way to many items for sale on GL from other shards. While like i stated these items are of great importance to the history, they are of importance to the HISTORY OF THE SHARD THEY CAME FROM. What good is a Lake Superior Sash of Whatever on GL if we didnt participate in the event and have no idea what it was about except the one or two people that xsharded the items over here? Absolutely nothing.

Get your flame suit ready because all the rares collectors will come. It is becoming more and more about the rares collectors and not about the rest of the player base. Look at all the posts after an event or the spamming selling blah blah. These events were suppose to be about community and now they are just rare item collection events. Good luck and don't be to down when you get flamed.

I've been arguing that EM items should have available-for-all replicas available from the museum.

the original item will of course remain unique, but everyone can get a replica from the museum for a donation. (tagged replica of course)

so the actual artifact still holds value and rarity, but the replicas are kept as keepsakes for all who want them, whether for practical use, or deco.

who's gonna argue about getting a replica for a fraction of the price and effort?

or just add the replicas to the paragon/champ spawn/treasure chest loot tables. ever expanding.

Wow, just wow. I love how people always alienate other groups of people just because they do not like the way they play the game. Bash this group, punish this one, ban that one...its all frigging ********. The next time any of you wish to get upset over the fact that an EM didn't give you candy, please don't post about it. It is ********...

and whoever had the idea of limiting items to shards...you remind me of Hitler. You think the way you play is the right way, and bugger everyone else. How much more narrow minded can you cattle (that's right...i said cattle) be?

One thing they could do is scale the number of items dropped based on the number of people present.

Currently, 10 items seems to be the norm. Yet, more and more people come to events. So you get 10 items dropped at an event with say 50 people.

There will be a lot of people unhappy that they "wasted their time" or any number of selfish things.

Have a base of 10 items, but scale up to say 15 or 20 if you get a large throng of people.

As had been stated before, these items are trinkets with pretty much only decorative use. There is NO valid or logical reason to keep event items 'rare' when you want everyone to have fun. EM Events should NOT be seen as cash cows or opportunities for only rares collectors to benefit.

I certainly do not want to remove the 'play' from players by being a hitler, My only reasoning from 'wanting' EM items non xshardable is because only 5-10 are handed out at the end of HUGE events and I get annoyed when zero remain on Europa for any of the players to look at or to be kept as history.

It's not the fact they are elsewhere I'm upset at, It's that none are left on the place they were given out on. How can you make sure at least one remains? Well stop them being transferable in the first place seems the easiest.

Sorry I, *coughs*MOOOOO*coughs* Said my opinion. This cattle is heading back to it's shed.

If items are the only reason a person goes to an event, there is no reason to scale them up. Why? Events are not supposed to be about the items...but rather the experience. If you scale up the items, who are you really catering to? Those who are there for content...or those there for items?

I do events because I enjoy them, lag and all. Items are a welcome but not expected.

Well, your logic is sound...I give you that. However I happen to know that there are items that remain on the shard...which kinda puts the idea back to square one. Now certainly several items may tend to migrate...but this has occurred since the advent of cross sharding.

Riiiiight... This is why I go to the events as well, items are just nice little occasional trinkets to display.

Some people do go just for them. There's not much we can do about that.

The EMs do have to 'cater' to their shards. This is where we tiptoe the line of excluding people for one reason or another - never a good path to take, regardless of the reason.

So witch one of these do you mean? First you get upset for the bashing of the events items, that they are becoming rare item events. Then you say they should not be about the events items. When these events started they were about community and having fun. Now they have turned into everybody going to every shard to get rare event items. Look at Cats and the birthday party that they tried to keep quiet. That worked out well. Go to any event now and more than half the people there are item hunters from other shards. Events were a lot nicer when it was about community and not items.

it's just a big raffle!

maybe the events should have a raffle ticket you redeem from a town crier, and at the end, the players with the matching numbers get the prize. i bet attendance would increase tenfold if the em events were nothing more than a big ol' raffle. that would really bring a community together!

From day one I have suggested the developers should make a hidden property which can be put on event items. This property would prevent a character transfer. Now much fewer people will go to every shard to farm items and shard residents will be encouraged to attend their own events.

On Pacific, our great EM's make duplicates of the items and show them off at our Counselor Hall "Museum" also the items they create that are used as part of the event itself that normally aren't "lootable".

Can someone please post their "legitimate" reason why an item should not be able to be xferred? I play on many shards but have houses on only one. For the people stating that there should be a remembrance of the event on your shard, i would direct you to the EM rewards house. On every shard that i am familiar with, the EM displays one of the dropped items from every event there, plus more. All contest winners, etc, etc have some kind of item displayed there as well. I don't want to inflame this thread more, i am legitimately curious as to the justification of keeping all EM dropped items on a particular shard.

What I was getting at is people have many different ways of playstyle within this game of ours. When you start to exclude people for any reason (as already mentioned) then what kind of person are you?

Again, I enjoy the events...the lag, even the frequent client crashes. The experience is the important part for me...the eye candy is only secondary.

I never bashed items...I bashed those who put items above all else...I bash those who put the experience secondary to eye candy. I bash those who cry when they don't get something but say nothing when they do. Hypocrites... bugs the crap out of me.

If EM event items are a part of shard history then it's totally hypocritical for them to be removed from the shard. This practice needs to be seriously reviewed by the powers that be.

If you are a rares collector and you go to the events so you can get one or two of the rares so you can make yourself richer (either in game or via rl cash), then you are selfishly benefiting from the effort of the entire shard, people who put in the effort to bring the event to a successful conclusion.. where's their cut of your profit?

If you are a rares collector and you go to the events just to partake in the game and play with the community, then it shouldn't matter one wit whether rares are created during that event.

The argument that it's ok for just a few people to get EM event rares because it would devalue the item, is hogwash.. selfish hogwash.

Look its easy. If the event items are for a paricular shard and were coded not to be xsharded I dont see an issue. If people have no issue to come and particpate for an event on another shard and get said EM items they should enjoy playing that shard to. Maybe cant xfer the EM items off the shard but can sell it to the people that actually play that shard full time and xshard the gold. Nobody is being excluded to paticipate even then xsharders and everybody wins in the end. The EM items stay on that particular shard period.

Plus it can save on costs of xfer tokens if they have complete chars on each shard. Maybe they win an item on one event on another shard but didnt get it on their home shard. So they can post a trade for same items on the shard they won and hoping maybe an xsharder won it on theirs from that same shard.

You don't see an issue with excluding people from other shards from participating since they do not live there? You don't see an issue with lost revenues due to people crossharding to trade items of one sort or the next? Honestly, collectors within the community probably cross shard more than any of you...and therefor create a lot of revenue for the game itself. They do not upset the balance themselves 90% of the time...since they are buying items from people who actually live on the shard.

As Wootsauce mentioned...if it is a matter of historical reference, there is on display on all shards a history of events...including items, journals, trophies...and more. No history is being lost...it is simply moved from one place to another. Besides, most players just let this stuff sit in containers...while the collectors proudly display these items for all to see in museums.

Again, all you are asking to do is alienate an entire playstyle from even taking part. Why? Because the precious is in their hands instead of your own.

Look why make it harder then it is to understand. If you have the time to have a char to xfer to another shard may as well make chars on all shards. I have done that. I have finished chars on most shards. Home shard is dead that night then you can play on another. I sell stuff on my non home shards and pocket the gold. But i dotn do events b/c of stuff liek this. I was giving out ideas but hey who wants to change things for the better of the community of each shard. Lets keep the drama and pixel crack addiction the way it is :)

OK...so you would ask that players not use revenue creating transfer tokens to move around? Also, what makes you think they don't already have chars there? You saying they shouldnt be allowed to take their goods home if they are lucky enough to get something? Did you ever consider that perhaps some of these *foreigners* do more events than you do? No...you haven't thought of any of that.

there is no further reason to even argue with people who probably do not even support their shards events in the first place as you yourself have admitted you don't.

So you will not go to events unless there is an item. And please don't point fingers. You post history show you are a rares collector, so you want all the items you can get to make a profit for yourself. You don't like my posts because I want to cut into your profit.
These days - i play the game to play EM events. on every shard. its that simple. i like the storyline, the items when they fall, etc. what do you do with your game?

If you attended events yourself, you would know that there is no way to determine which will drop items.

LOL A lot you know. I do attend events on my home shard all the time. What I don't do is go to other shards just to get items to sell for a profit. I attend events for community first and am tired of all the item mongers attending them for the items that they sell for profit. You only go to get items for profit.
